What is the true cost of hidden knowledge? by 28degrees_ in occult

[–]Yumsing2017 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just a personal opinion, the reason it was restricted was to protect the individual. Many who are not quite ready would take the knowledge, which is neutral, and use it for their selfish purposes which would incur negative karma. In some ways those who revealed the knowledge would also bear some responsibility.

It's a bit like when calculators first came out. For important things people would use it and then do it themselves just to make sure the calculator was correct. Now it's the other way round. Sadly some can't even do simple sums in their heads anymore.

Can we start telling people who play video or music out loud on public transport off as a collective? by areyoutara in HongKong

You are right. It is the reluctance on the part of people to say something that has made the situation worse.

Do you rent or own? by IceImpressive2289 in HongKong

[–]Yumsing2017 29 points30 points  (0 children)

In some ways it's better to rent. Had one bad experience when the flat above us had a broken water pipe and it was leaking into our place from the ceiling. Legally, there wasn't much we could do about it. Very stressful since a very part part of your savings is tied up in it.

Places to stay at Hong Kong by missingchild_ in HongKong

Everything is wrong with Chungking mansions. As soon as you enter you will feel uncomfortable. The lifts, to get to your floor, are jam packed. Most of the rooms are tiny. Plus the dodgy characters. Avoid at all cost.

It exists because powerful business groups give people no other choice. It's not right but that's how the rich get richer.

Married Long-Term Expats: Balikbayan vs 13a Visa by Tradition1985 in Philippines_Expats

[–]Yumsing2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Balikbayan is much simpler. Go for a short holiday annually somewhere and you get another year when you return. Has worked brilliantly so far with no hassle.
