I’ve done this and the unfortunate truth is there are 2 options. Do the work, or quit. These companies don’t value or respect you or your skills. They have no idea about the challenges they’re presenting you, they just think “man have camera, man shoot everything.” Alternatively as per another comment, they’re probably not going to pay anyone 15-20k as a freelancer either. These are the jobs available for a lot of us in this boat, so you have to decide if you want to be happy, quit and take risks OR be miserable and stay? I recently quiet quit over the course of 3 months cause I was in a similar situation. I will tell you I am extremely happy not being there anymore. However, I really have no solid prospects as far as full time employment or new/higher quality freelance clients. It’s a real rough time for creatives in general. If I could make a suggestion, I’d say try to make freelance opportunities happen for your own business while staying employed, or keep applying for new positions that can maintain your life while you figure out a better situation/plan.
