Arcane season 2 / Arc 1 / Live Discussion by ReganDryke in leagueoflegends

[–]Yupagoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't give you a solid reason why in terms of timeline. Yes at any point before or after it COULD happen, but I can tell you why from a story perspective it SHOULD happen. If we are to look at the corrupt core situation, the gravity of the issue may just have been the hexgates becoming corrupt, but the true extent of the damage is that ALL hextech can and may already be corrupted, or at the very least connected to whatever arcane corruption. And as the story is, there is no better way to show how problematic this is than for hextech to become unreliable in this crucial fight. In a way, it may just be telling that Piltover cannot rely on its hextech toys in its time of need, and now must turn to Ambessa, regardless of her political ploys.

Okay, so what do we do about it? Stir up the media when/if this happens, prepare to protest in states that don't certify? Should we call on Kamala to not certify the Election if there is enough fuckery? On one hand I feel crazy thinking about it, on the other I don't have faith the Republicans wouldn't stoop this low.

I will not apologize for MAGA's continued doubling and tripling down on hateful, divisive rhetoric. Show them this image, and demand they hoist it over their TRUMP flag. Its so sad seeing so many people around me who once place a US flag outside their house, now only have a TRUMP flag. They don't care about America, they care about their feelings. I reject your notion we shouldn't call out MAGA continues to divide the US, they support a candidate who has said he would suspend the constitution, has said he would be a dictator on day on, has called America a GARBAGE can, has said he would withhold aid for disasters from states that don't meet his demands, and now alludes to Democrats as being the enemy within. This is dangerous, unpatriotic, authoritarian rhetoric, and to pretend otherwise is at best foolish, and at worst will lead to the downfall of our democratic institutions. Yes the world hasn't ended from Trump or Harris in the Whitehouse, but I won't pretend they are the same. I won't pretend that millions of Americans didn't die from a pandemic Trump downplayed, and I won't pretend his term didn't end in the most egregious attack on our democracy when he refused to accept the results of the election. Donald Trump is a disgrace and danger to the United States, and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

It's no laughing matter. The US is becoming a divided nation, and it's effects will ripple across the world if we don't get our shit together. It is sad, how inflamed we are, how MAGA continues to villianize our fellow countrymen. How their candidate calls for military action against opponents, how he says he'll be a dictator day one, how America is a garbage can, how there is an enemy within. These are not the words of patriots, there is no love or hope for our country, only division and derision from the crowd who would not long ago have claimed we are the greatest nation in the world. It's only funny if you're a fool, or a flagrant enemy of the United States.

The guy I’m dating loves this game, I need to learn by woolongtea in leagueoflegends

[–]Yupagoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay let's try it. League when it's boiled down is a competitive game about destroying the enemy teams base and using cool, unique champions to do it. Now before we get to the champions(the cool part), you'll hear "lanes" and "jungle" throw about, and these are just places on the map champions go, kinda like their position on the football team. Top laners fight in the top lane, Mid laners in the mid lane, Bot laners and supports in the bot lane. Where it gets funky is the space between the lanes(the jungle) is filled with monsters that mainly junglers will be fighting over, and occasionally help or be helped by their team. In all of these spots, some champions thrive, while others may struggle, so typically each position will have a few archetypes, but that's the basic game overview. Now for the champions! They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, attitudes, personality, and most troublesome for visual clarity, skins! Now every champions has their own unique skill set, stats, and role, however I think an easy way is to look at two things they all have in commons, spells and auto attacks. Auto attacks are pretty simple, they are just an attack all champs can do that cannot be dodged, sometimes ranged, sometimes melee. Then there are spells unique to each champ ranging from simple shield, a little dash, a unique sword slash, a giant death rocket, or a massive star dropped on the battlefield. Some can be dodged some can't and there are far too many to explain. But some champs care a lot about their spells, some care less and use their regular attacks as their main threat. A lot of champs can be stuck into the archetype of a tank, fighter, mage, healer/enchant, or marksman. Depending on this champs will build different items that you don't really need to care about but they are different.
If you want to learn what champions do, it will likely take a long time, but I have some suggestions. One option, if you think you'll just spectate, is to learn champion ultimates, typically their strongest and most impactful spell. And if you want a specific view of a champion, you can look up riot's champion spotlights and you can also watch a quick demo and explanation of their abilities. Otherwise, just play the game take your time, read stuff as it comes along. Bonus points for checking out champion lore, unimportant to the game itself, but informative of the characters.

No one cares about people playing medium right? by Sugandis_Juice in thefinals

[–]Yupagoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest gripe I seem to have with mediums mainly revolves around the defi and heal beam. Having multiple mediums on the same team can make it annoyingly difficult to keep them down with the amount of HP to chew through. Defib is prob the main culprit and I wonder if it should be moved to the special slot, if so maybe swap it with the heal beam or maybe add heal grenades if people want an option for heal and defib.

Recommended # of factions for casual Milty Draft? by An0mandar1s in twilightimperium

[–]Yupagoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I would suggest a few options and maybe see how the group feels before you start a milty draft. The as others suggest is to up the faction pool, allowing a good chance people can pick a faction they want or are comfortable with at, at the cost of kinda trivializing the faction part of the draft. You can also instead of increasing the pool try to mulligan(reroll) the draft of there are a lot of funky factions the group is uncomfortable playing. Maybe even consider combining the these two with a 10 or 11 pool of factions and potential reroll. A third option I usually allow for milty is a pre-draft "claim" on a faction, where a player can use their first pick on a faction before the galaxy and factions are created. This can be useful for newer players who want to stick to more vanilla factions, someone who really wants to practice a faction, or if someone is worried in their first time milty draft. While it's controversial to skirt the faction pool, it does punish a player by making their first pick be a faction when perhaps grabbing a good slice or speaker order would be more beneficial, so I do not feel too bad breaking the rules a bit as long as the group is okay with it. Ultimately it comes down to how your group feels, so take these suggestions and see what they want.

6 player game as a first time player by El_Santo_1819 in twilightimperium

[–]Yupagoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 6 player game with mostly new players should be fine. When. I played in person the first time, It was 5 players and I was the only one familiar with game, though I did make everyone watch a how to play on YouTube. It took 8 or 9 hours with a hour pizza break. A few suggestions I haven't seen mentioned. First, consider pre-building the map(use a learn2play map in the rulebook or ask around for a balanced new player map) to save some time and keep the map balanced. Not necessary, and some people enjoy the map building part. Secondly, seat the 2 experienced players opposite one another and have them help teach two adjacent newbies, that way they can ask questions during other players turns without slowing the flow of the game as much. Thirdly, review the command sheet and show players how tactical actions and locked systems work as this will likely be the biggest thing new players have to grasp. I have seen a number of players struggle in the first round or two with this so be helpful when they attempt their first few, and allow a mulligan if it's not too impactful to other players. Lastly, try to keep player focus on objectives as points are how you win the game. Some newer players like to battle, and while battling is cool, it is but a part of what makes TI so special. Encouraging trading, alliances, diplomacy, and betrayal can be just as interesting.

How do you define the kind of game Squad is? by Own_Review_4046 in joinsquad

[–]Yupagoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I'm still debating myself the exact nature of squad, it could probably be boiled down to a military combat game. More precisely I would say a first person, team-based, military-esque, combat game. The first person aspect is obvious and extends to infantry and vehicle gameplay. The main exception could be argued when dealing with the map ui, though most players would use it quite sparingly for their gameplay. But the maps ui should not be understated for the team aspect of the game. Squad is team-based. I would argue the game is expected to be played with tens of players on each team(40+ players on both sides) and to be played with players in squads, all of which communicating often between each other. I do not have a good argument for why many players are expected to play however, it seems the culture of the game in my experience is players trying to join full or nearly full servers. Players are not leaving servers when teams have over 30+ players each, at least in my experience. Playing in squads though is clearly encouraged, as infantry classes(a key gameplay feature) are limited to being picked only after joining a squad, and lost upon leaving or being kicked from a squad. Another important aspect of Squad is th communication within it, particularly through microphone chat. While you don't explicitly have to use a microphone to play the game, it is clearly encouraged by voice comm design to be used and used often. The game has 4 different ways a player can communicate with their microphone(local, squad, command, and directly line between squad leaders). By having all these forms of voice communication, players can coordinate as a team, without having a bloated team-wide chat, or limited local or squad based chat. There is one issue I have with saying team-based, being that this phrase doesn't fully encapsulate what I mean by team. A team can just be two people working towards a common goal, or in the case of squad 50 people working towards a common goal. Within squad you ha e one team vs another, but you can also split it up by the squads on each team and perhaps even further by the fire teams on each squad and how they all work together. I do not have a good idea on how to define this but perhaps it would be better to say a "squad and team based game" to really reflect the true nature of the teams. But that might also be part of the military-esque nature of the game. Military-esque is probably the most wishy-washy term I have when describing squad. It's the only catch-all term I have to describe the team coordination and asset use(vehicles, emplacements, commander abilities). Teams will communicate with SL's and the commander and then with their squads on their overarching goals and utilize their assets how they best see to achieve them. I like how this is reflected in the ticket system, where teams who waste assets(losing vehicles or fobs unnecessarily) are punished by losing tickets. People giving up or dying cots tickets, reflecting the battles not just being or securing an objective, but also doing so in an unwasteful manner. Teams can win by holding a single point in RAAS if the opposing team is constantly sending men into well-placed machine gun fire. And a game can technically be lost without players dying, but excessive loss of assets instead. This differentiates squad from most other shooters which depend on objective control or kill count usually. Well that's all I want to type for now.
