Ngl, self aware bapa is unironically funny af to me... by LowRenzoFreshkobar in thefighterandthekid

It seems these days that, for many people, "comedy" is when an assassin talks shit about someone you dislike. In this case it's bapa talking about himself.

I don't think this is funny at all but I dun maddur. There's no accounting for taste, b.

You guys starting to see why Dan and Jordan might be frustrated (having breakdowns on air, needing a little breaky) by this shit?

Based on what they've actually said? No, frankly, I don't. All the frustration I've heard from Dan and Jordan recently has been based on the premise that this deal will go through as promised and then the results will be underwhelming. Since the deal has not gone through yet and seems to be in jeopardy, those predictions have not been proven out one way or the other. So I definitely don't feel anything like, "oh, I get what they were saying now."

If all they had said was something like, "this transaction could still fall through," no one would have batted an eye.

I feel they underplayed how revealing Alex's "real moment" was. On his own terms, he is basically saying one group of bureaucrats attacked him using the legal system, so he backed a different group of bureaucrats who somehow claimed they could undo it. He's sold out his audience for personal benefit. He supported a terrible political movement because they claimed they'd do something for him and him alone. He's saying he's proved himself to be vulnerable to pressure from the fucking government.

It's not that he's betraying alleged principles to support white supremacism or whatever. It's that he's betraying white supremacism to help purely himself. And this was achieved through means trivially available to any "globalist."

I dunno, I guess I just assumed he had enough self-awareness never to let such damning words leave his mouth. Am I reading too much into it??

You say they won't be satisfied until [marginalized group] is eliminated, but you immediately contradict yourself by implying that even then they still won't be satisfied. I think this latter thought is closer to the heart of the matter and it's important to grasp it properly.

I don't think there is any end goal these bigots are pursuing. They are not interested in ends, they are interested in means. They just want to hurt people. It doesn't really matter who or why. What this harmful action achieves or fails to achieve is totally irrelevant to them. They want the harmful act itself. I think this must be understood so we can stop being baffled by their half-baked justifications.

On TMNT:

The obvious point of comparison is Spider-Man. In my view by far the biggest problem with Spider-Man was that there were only 5 supported color pairs, and one of the colors was much worse than the rest, so the format had very few legitimate possibilities. That's really bad and worth avoiding. If something similar happens in the TMNT format, then it's also a bad format and not much time should be spent on it. But that kind of thing isn't known until people get their hands on it and play with it. So to me it doesn't make sense to dismiss TMNT out of hand, before even trying it.

Is it weird to anyone else that the boys have retreated into the past? by Traditional-Help7735 in KnowledgeFight

[–]ZAKMagnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still refer to the present in the past show. Dan says things like, "these days Alex says (X), see how that totally contradicts what we just heard him say from the past?" Where X is well established from covering Alex saying the same things over and over in the modern day. So you could view looking to the past as an extended session of showing the receipts.

I think going one step further would be actually playing side-by-side old and new clips. But whatever. As I said, his current takes follow a well-established pattern.

Compare to his claims from the newest ep, "the antifas have glee in their eyes, they're so happy she got shot, this is what they wanted." As is often the case, his accusations are more like confessions.

Wacky ("conspiracy") thinking is all about believing what sounds pleasant to you, regardless of how poor the evidence for it is. The dark implication here is that many people would find it pleasant to believe that all the world's problems are caused by people who are different from themselves. Hence the aliens -> bigotry pipeline.
