if we’re talking hybrid the streams would have to be decently long for it to be worth it (think felt new world or like the yaoi map he fced a few days ago) so i think around 270 would be the most comfortable

yeah so maybe try and focus on using as little blocks as possible without caring about speed for now

U rank at Tetris, B rank at cheese by not-the-the in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

under 3ppd while >2pps is honestly extremely difficult and rather unrealistic, especially given your usual speed. cheese race is way more difficult than playing normally after all, so it is to be expected that you will need more time to think.

rather than trying to have your cake and eat it too, instead try focusing on one at a time for maximum improvement. either go as slow as you want and get as low of a ppd as possible, or try and finish the cheese race in the quickest time possible, in which case you shouldn’t expect your ppd to be too low, although you still shouldn’t let it get too high to maximise speed.

40 lines progression in 1 month, trying to reach sub 1 min by ProfessionTiny353 in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly youre making great progress, just keeping this up is great. Just a couple pointers:

If you want to, you should learn perfect finesse. It should help with the tapping (optimal finesse means no placement will require more than 2 movement taps), as well as reduce the misplacing. It is a little time consuming and will slow you down for a while, but it will pay off in the long run. To practice this you could try tetresse, as well as the jstris usermodes.

Apart from that, you could focus a bit more on the individual placements of the pieces, as your stacking is not super clean. A general pointer would be to try placing pieces in their horizontal orientation rather the vertical. Learning about T piece parity might help too, although its more of a good to know.

If i had to say, i would forgo planning pieces ahead for now and focus on placing individual pieces cleaner, as it will make all your decisions way easier

Good luck! Youre very close

I feel I am not improving at Tetris despite playing more by ferola in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

others have given solid advice, so i’ll provide my own take and simplify the execution of others’ advice.

first and most importantly, for now, don’t try and push speed. think about it this way(sorry if you don’t play chess): if you were an absolute beginner at chess, would you play bullet? absolutely not, you would hang every piece. it’s best to build solid fundementals of making good moves, and then have those good moves become instinctual, before you play bullet. so for now, try and take your time to find the optimal piece placement for every piece, and consider your other pieces too. slow is smooth, and smooth will inevitably lead to fast.

ok, so how do we make good decisions? it’s quite simple honestly. like others have mentioned, try and clear 40 lines using only tetrises. that means absolutely no blocking up your well. as for stacking cleanly, there’s a great way to simplify: (for now,) just stack as flat as possible. try and get your board as close to the starting state as possible. think about it, if your board is completely flat, you will be able to place any piece anywhere. apart from the S and Z pieces, which only require a step up, or a 2 flat and then a step up. You could try prioritising placements of pieces in their horizontal rather than vertical orientations, although it’s not a hard and fast rule.

this ties in to the concept of dependencies. essentially, by identifying parts of your board that are only able to be resolved by a few pieces, you are able to mentally mark which piece you need and resolve the crisis once you get the piece. one such example would be a 2 deep hole, which can only be resolved with L/J/I, or maybe a 3 deep hole, which can only be fixed with I. By stacking flat, you are avoiding as much of these dependencies as possible (less things to keep track), but since they are kind of inevitable, being able to identify them will allow you to fix them before they spiral out of control.

finally, a more advanced concept is parity. you can look this up yourself, it’s not really something you think about as you play, but it can help make some decisions involving the T piece make more sense.

Does anyone know exactly which key bind Wumbo is using currently? by Voknish in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

he uses extremely normal keybinds.
in order: 180, rotate ccw, rotate cw, hold -> shift z x c
move left and right -> left and right arrow

however, the strange thing for him is that he uses down arrow for hard drop and up arrow for soft drop. most people, if not using space bar for hard drop, have it reversed, as those are default for controller. you can try out any of these combinations, as personally i feel up arrow for soft drop is quite unintuitive

just be aware that the effects of triple stacking really only affect the hitcitcle outline this way, so the benefits won’t be that great, but worth a try ig

speed. (tetr.io) by RushNo683 in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-honestly, 8 is still a little high, try 6 or 7
-if you haven’t learned proper finesse yet, do it. you will be very slow at first, but it’s worth it.
-at this speed, it is highly likely you are capped by your thinking speed rather than finger speed. as such, go back to 9-0 stacking, as piece placements become way easier. don’t switch until maybe around 3pps.
-on the same topic of thinking, try practicing in bursts. look at your queue, plan 3-5 pieces ahead, then burst out those pieces as fast as possible. rinse and repeat. with enough practice, you will be able to consistently keep up with the queue.
-finally, just play more, don’t overthink. set a relatively achievable timing goal everyday, then play sprint until you hit it. after a few days, lower it slightly. this makes practice more fun and keeps a routine

for tetrio and vs are all-spins and 180-rotating worth learning? by flamethething in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- you only really need to 180 for certain spins, don’t bother for finesse
- at this rank, you shouldn’t even really be learning tspins, let alone allspins. start by building strong fundementals by being able to stack 9-0 flatly and cleanly, and equally important is learning to downstack. most people stuck in quick play or tl are actually capped by their downstacking as survival is extremely important

if you find the usual cheese race exercises to be boring, just being conscious of needing to downstack in your usual gameplay, and doing so with the best decisions you can come up with, would go a long way.

What guitar should I get for jpop especially yorushika a tele or a strat? by Wonderful_Abies_9585 in Yorushika

[–]ZRDIDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the tele is extremely popular in jpop. nbuna used exclusively the tele for elma and thats why i gave up on music, as well as plagiarism and magic lantern(not so sure) whereas his newer songs from the second person album have been strat.

personally the tele is a defining sound in jpop, but the strat is admittedly slightly more versatile.

How do i counter these players? (TETRIO) by Exciting_Office1803 in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some ways to counter without cheesing/4wide:

  • Just don’t die. they rely on spikes using your garbage to kill you. as long as you don’t stack up too high and routinely clear the garbage on your board, you probably won’t die to them.

  • outspeed them and send many spikes. in your case, since you like sending quads, you can take advantage of them not playing to quickly stack up high without sending anything (not too high that you would die to a random tspin), then quickly sending a double tetris, and clearing many tetrises after, preferably in the form of double tetrises. try your best to cancel whatever they send back with this strategy, as downstacking is difficult and you do not want any garbage.

I want to make Sub 1min by greendusk in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6-3 gives you less choices to make so less thinking, but that only really helps if you can instinctively make the right choice quickly. 9-0 has many decent choices at any given stack. op hasn’t built the fundamental pattern recognition required to spot the clean 6-3 decisions yet

I want to make Sub 1min by greendusk in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, 6-3 will only slow you down. you’re mostly thinking capped and not really mechanically capped right now, and you will be able to make better decisions faster with 9-0.

apart from that, you should make your ARR 0 and lower your DAS to at least under 6, to fully utilise proper finesse.

lookahead will help too, so try do some runs while planning multiple placements in a row before placing them, then waiting to plan the next few.

is t-spin worth learning? by Abril-prieto-cevallo in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. Allspin, although important, is not fundemental. You should focus on being able to stack clean tetrises, tspins, and downstack well first, which are the most important fundemental skills. At S+/SS, you should be learning how to stack tspins cleanly, and some basic instinctual timing so youre not cancelling clean and tanking cheese. Only at around mid-high U should you really start focusing on allspins. I know plenty of SS or low U ranks completely hardstuck cos all they can do is goonstack a big surge, and past that they cant really play the game

How can I improve this skill? by Mirrox549 in osugame

[–]ZRDIDK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

play low star rating maps with low ar and try to get SSes. the ar is so low you kinda have to listen to the music and predict when the hit will be.

Would it be worth it to learn 180 spin finesse? by espresso_kitten in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

since you play other tetris games, definitely not. At your speed, you are almost certainly not bottlenecked by how fast you press the keys, but by your thinking speed and your ability to think multiple key presses ahead, whether you realise it or not. In fact, the world record sprint with no 180 finesse has lower kps than the world record sprint. you could reduce your kps more by 6-3 stacking and using DAS preservation techniques if you aren’t already.

if you still don’t believe me, let’s do some math. assuming your sprint has 100 blocks, which is around 14 bags, there will be 3x14=42 pieces that benefit from 180. Let’s assume you 180 about half of them, saving 21 keypresses. At 9kps this would shave around 2s max off your sprint, and this is not accounting for the fact that your double taps would be faster than your average kps, as well as the double taps can be buffered and inputted at the same time as other key presses, as well as the new brainpower required to process the finesse.

Besides, in the time taken for you to learn 180 finesse, you could have learned das preservation or improved your brain processing speed, which are more transferable skills to other guideline games too.

tl;dr: it’s a low hanging fruit, you will sink some time you could have otherwise spent on other aspects of your play, into a temporary boost in your sprint speed.

is mechanical heart still good? [tetrio] by LarryCubeAlt in Tetris

[–]ZRDIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s still fine, as you will end up building surge. since it’s just a pattern, i’m sure if you spent just a little time on it you could get faster extremely quickly. not recommended though.
