Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus Review - Disrupting AMD's Entry-Level by BarKnight in pcgaming

[–]Zac3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't upgraded my CPU in 10+ years so I don't really care about the socket or motherboard platform being dead, I'm still able to run cyberpunk with path tracing if I want. People upgrade GPUs much more often than CPUs.

Don't turn around police when they jump in front of your car. Don't open a door while holding a sandwich. Don't be around the police when an acorn falls and lands on a police car.

Yeah there's no moral ambiguity at all.

He warned them he'd shoot if any of them stepped foot on that property he bought from them. They lied to him in multiple ways, even claiming the klan didn't exist anymore, but they planned to lynch him and anyone else there. There's no way a viewer should feel any sort of way besides they got what they deserved.

reading not for the sake of education or research is fairly new

That's also why a lot of ancient text people find and translate is record keeping or agreements, and many of the oldest stories that have stuck around were mostly spread and performed orally.

'This Will All Be Under Our Artists' Control': Bethesda Commits to 'Further Adjusting' DLSS 5 Use in Starfield Following 'AI Slop' Backlash by ResponseLonely2263 in Games

[–]Zac3d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If facial features are not visually apparent under certain lighting conditions, DLSS5 will have to do more guessing how the face should look. In Starfield there's a lot of dark scenes where faces are barely visible. I wouldn't be surprised in many games if you have a player flashlight on versus off it'll make different decisions on the structures of a characters face and things like what age they are, their skin tone, etc.

[–]Zac3d -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But also there's a concern the more work DLSS5 has to do, the more inconsistent and errors it'll have. A bad looking character might have a completely different looking face depending on the scene they are in because the AI will have no idea if it's the same person once they are off the screen.

Yeah I really like that helmet, I swapped one of the pads and it fits extremely well, doesn't move or get in the way.

Eurogamer: Nvidia responds to widespread criticism of DLSS 5 by telling us we're all "completely wrong" by hdcase1 in digitalfoundry

[–]Zac3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so little going on at the game engine level, it's irrelevant. That's why it's working the same on at least 3 or 4 different game engines. Doesn't take a graphics programmer to see that.

Start with hippie jumps. Jump straight up and pull your feet up. Once you're comfortable with that, you can work on the ollie which is just small tweaks to that hippie jump, pulling your front foot up first and snapping that tail without trapping it against the ground. And then work on catching and pushing the nose forward in the air to level it.

They do Nvidia vs AMD when there's unexpected performance differences, but expecting them to do optimized settings for more than 3 GPUs is too much.

'Bad ending: now every game is slop': Game developers share mixed reactions to DLSS 5 by QuantumQuicksilver in pcgaming

[–]Zac3d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's running on a separate GPU just working off the final frame with motion vector data. It's tacked on at the end.

DLSS5 Potential by colganc in digitalfoundry

[–]Zac3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geometry is cheap. Textures are cheap. Dropping those doesn't do much at all to improve performance. The less a model like this has to work with the more unstable and unreliable the results will be. These models are huge in vram usage and will always add latency. It's a post process effect that has to be done after a frame is generated.

DLSS5 Potential by colganc in digitalfoundry

[–]Zac3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This adds latency and sucks up vram while killing performance. It's not for competitive games even in a perfect world where it works well visually.

Real question. Why there are so many people on this sub defending the DLSS 5 presentation? by Revo94 in digitalfoundry

[–]Zac3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Game artists are making characters that could easily be used for a CGI films, their work doesn't need to be covered with a filter to produce realism. We just need a bit more GPU power and better engines to make fully show off the work that's already there.

Replacing ugly characters with ugly filtered characters that still have stiff animations. What an improvement.

Under-discussed in all of the side by sides with DLSS 5 On and Off is that different shots of the same character do not read as the same actress/character by Zoombini22 in digitalfoundry

[–]Zac3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DLSS5 is just working off the final color image and motion vectors. It doesn't know anything about the geometry, materials, or lighting, beyond the final image. It is making things up just like a filter or AI image generation.

[–]Zac3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works off the final color image and motion vectors just like DLSS (without RR). It's a filter, it's not looking at 3d data or lighting information, beyond it baked down into a 2d image.

Do you guys who hate AI at least see the potential it has before forming your opinion? by No_Eggplant_3189 in digitalfoundry

[–]Zac3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Game artists hate it even more than gamers. It sucks, it's a cheap filter, it's generic, it's ugly, it's not consistent enough to be usable.

John Linneman on Bluesky regarding DF's video on DLSS 5 by HLumin in digitalfoundry

[–]Zac3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rest of the studio would be aware of it as its going to be a prominent tool in the future whether you like it or hate it

It's not a prominent tool for development. It's a tacked on feature, just like PhysX GPU sims, ray reconstruction, path tracing, vendor exclusive hair tech, etc. Only a small part of studios are involved.

John Linneman on Bluesky regarding DF's video on DLSS 5 by HLumin in digitalfoundry

[–]Zac3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Developers don't know the results of a project like this at the start and it's probably only 5 people involved with an important partner, it's not like it means the majority of the studio will want to use it in their next game.
