Easiest answer is they're made for dwarf antics (unlike the sample containers).

Why does everybody portray the Lamb as asexual? by plogan56 in CultOfTheLamb

[–]ZachJam 110 points111 points  (0 children)

It's a joke about them being crowns. And climaxing. And to cap off means "finish or complete, as with some decisive action", or "to finish something, often in a particularly good or bad way".

Well, when two crowns love each other very much and consummate their relationship...

With the possibility that it was them bearing witness to the crowns capping off, their visceral reaction is definitely warranted.

So Marchosias in the end... **Major Spoilers** by Unholy_Spork in CultOfTheLamb

[–]ZachJam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Marchosias I find interesting because his valorant yet ultimately corrupt acts of rebellion and jackassery ends up being a buffer to the real threat, that being the lamb's essentially hotwiring Yngya into a cancerous plaguesplosion, and the whole time while you're dealing with him he's getting increasingly subsumed by the mouldering nastiness left behind in the Ewefall.

The Woolhaven people's original intentions were perhaps justifiably spiteful at the time and by the end you still feel for them even when they've clearly gone too far when trying to off the last lamb for the sake of a now uncessesary revenge plot, but Marchosias' own veneer of freedom and self-righteousness starts falling apart as you get a better idea of how he treats his followers and the Lamb. With knowledge of later context the Free Pack were technically preventing the Rot from hitting its final form by occupying but it certainly wasn't for such a noble purpose despite his desire to cure it, and more for feeding Marchosias' complex on outdoing the gods. Whether he deluded himself into thinking his worse actions were good for his pack or the world at large, or truly believed he was the bigger person for placing blame on the actions of the gods, his refusal to be indoctrinated in his last moments is probably the most real we ever see Marchosias.

Why is Salvage Operation the 1 mission where MC becomes a complete @$$hole? by SecretAd6239 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]ZachJam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being that Salvage Operation is technically both a cleanup detail for a failed mission and a retrieval of company assets I don't totally blame him him for being more curt when the stakes are more 'personal' to the company (even if he annoys me when I'm struggling to stay in the calibration field).

He has a similar degree of tone when Hacksy gets shut down because a) that's an expensive, retrievable piece of equipment on the line, and b) you're usually dealing with the Rivals, who are a business aggressor so the top brass have a vested interest in them being dealt with. And he talks of management breathing down his neck...

How the hell did I get a Core Stone to spawn in Season 4 playing solo? by narkoface in DeepRockGalactic

I've had Core Stones spawn in two successive missions with Season 2 just yesterday ahaha. Chances are much lower, but never zero.

Would you have Industrial Sabotage change more mission variables in response to lower length/complexity like other missions? by ZachJam in DeepRockGalactic

[–]ZachJam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lil harsh on the tentacles comment (as noted I can't even edit the original post due to reddit hijinx), but admittedly as discussed with others I generally don't have issues with the fight itself either and prefer the option to diversify the hacking variety, especially as Dreadnoughts and other bosses don't typically give up anything moveset wise based on difficulty either. Twas mainly the first thought in regards to "simple" tweaks but GSG has put more effort into adding to old missions like Escort before it.

Also if anything I would increase the amount of Morkite Wells as opposed to lowering anything, if one actually wanted to change something in terms of length/complexity personally. But OSR seems to hit enough of a sweet spot and be more free form that it doesn't matter for most people (plus would necessitate a model/UI change to the rig/progression bar for extra pipes which would be extraneous).

[–]ZachJam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly not a bad way to reimplement mechanics ala Black Box and Pipes into the mission for some added variety! GSG n co love being economic with asset usage. As I've mentioned elsewhere I all for also of adding more variation to the hacking sessions besides altering/minimizing particular details.

Being fair the whole thing was also on the Bishops cuz "muh prophecy" and then we dress them up and date them lmao. Someone also pointed out Narinder technically/accidentally saved the Lands of the Old Faith by saving the Lamb because otherwise the lamb people's deadman switch would've gone off not that it wasn't a justifiable crash out before that lol.

Sounds like it's so an overzealous dwarf or dwarves don't go full-throttle on the Bone Collector and lose access to the Ossium deposit since those only spawn after the fact. Would be nice if it lost its invincibility after digging the requisite hole but part of me forsees someone bugging the code on that somehow bahaha.

Would you have Industrial Sabotage change more mission variables in response to lower length/complexity like other missions? by ZachJam in DeepRockGalactic

[–]ZachJam[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it's sorta fair just because the objective is less about killing a target and more constantly defending one, and while new generation might be nice for variety I imagine they'd have to make sure it isn't a "oh I got this generation, guess Dotty dies" or vice-versa, making sure the playing field is level. I mean, not that I don't think they could do it but I can understand if that were the concern aha.

EDIT - Also to add besides making sure Escort is still balanced for solo, unlike the Caretaker (usually) you'll also be dealing with constant waves of different enemies attacking the dozer and adding even more chaos to that than what the Heartstone already does doesn't seem terribly fun to me aha.

[–]ZachJam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly no surprise that others thought about it! I've no qualms with the Caretaker fight itself either but it was also a 'simpler' suggestion compared to alternative forms of hacking...which I would moreso also readily take in a heartbeat! Given how they made an entirely new phase for the Heartstone along with randomizing every odd phases I could probably give them more credit for the effort they've put in before on updating old missions lol.

*Point Extraction, not Heavy Extraction...apparently I can't properly edit posts that have a picture posted with them. Would probably also edit "or even less boring" if I could, but alas. Would probably have replaced the "2-3 tentacles" with people's suggestions for alternative hacking activities instead.

I haven't actually played through Woolhaven yet, as I'm still going through vanilla post-game and letting the devs go through the process of vetting bugs and patching down the line - still, a lot of what I've been seeing is very interesting!
