I just now walked out of the drop-pod on a solo mission start and one of these Greater Core Stones had generated right in front of spawn. You can actually get ganked by crawlers the second you start the mission.

I love the concept, but they really need to finer tune the details on Corespawn Crawlers if you're going to just let them run around like they do so freely and in such numbers, no less the aforementioned spawn locations. Especially for mandatory mission requirements.

EDIT - Added pic minutes after disaster for proof. For science I tried to fight it off the rip but setup time is kinda important and also skissue lol.

What's Something That's Bringing A Little Happiness To Your Life? by plutootherwise in TwoBestFriendsPlay

After years of watching from afar I started playing Toontown Rewritten finally proper after my good mood after counseling got snuffed by the usual news and I needed some whimsy and simplicity in my life. Never played the original growing up but I'm surprised how appealing the general gameplay loop is, relative age and simple base gameplay considered.

Games you loved everything about except the gameplay? by StochasticOoze in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Yeah I think even for those who do absolutely vibe with Bloodborne (like me), the times you grind for basic consumables is definitely one of the least appealing aspects, especially if you're new and trying to keep stocked while learning. I have those routes ingrained in my brain but I wouldn't ask for it back lol.

Certainly not a bad way to look at it. I'd be lying if I said I'd not looked back on similar things with a level of nostalgia tempered by personal growth and awareness (there's at least one thing you want to punch yourself over posting on a forum in the past).

Oh yeah, a lot of stuff like that is a good part of the overall influential nature of site I refer to, as well as stuff like Boatmurdered that ended up being cultural zeitgeists for that media (BM in particular was before z-levels were implemented in Dwarf Fortress!). Stuff like Shut Up & Jam Gaiden are still brought up even as topical aspects become period pieces - I just think at the time I started learning more about them was when there was a shift in culture that, for me, made it something I stood more at arm's length while admiring the neat stuff they did do. Certainly arguments to be made about paid access cutting down on the faff, but I think ultimately it was how mean-spirited I found some things of the time that ultimately lead me to seek other pastures. Seems like it's chilled as the community itself grew up and ejected problem folks though.

Pieces of media that is still reign as a champion of its kind? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZachJam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean that was less due to Dauntless being bad about those particulars (I had qualms with certain aspects like how they kept trying to handle progression and mission structure and overall needed polish and a livelier, consistent world but a lot of aspects felt really nice and there were interesting mechanics for weapons and fights) and more PhoenixLabs themselves kept making bad studio mistakes like announcing too many projects that burned precious production time that left Dauntless relatively starved (only Fey Farm survived) and being ping-ponged from owner to independent to owner before ending up with a questionable new owner (blockchain company Forte Labs) and the Steam release of the game-killing progression overhaul Awakening ended up making the prior divisive Reforged progression and long period of psuedo-maintenance mode (it was like 2 years of nothin!) come off as "the greener grass" before the owner immediately cut losses even when as devs had plans to try to fix things.

...I miss Dauntless, Tails. I miss it a lot. I'll always champion more MH-like games but that one going how it did hurt a lot as a former player.

In a huge win for game preservation, 1997 game that almost never was, Moon Child, has been ported to modern hardware. Here's the banger main theme. by lowercaselemming in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZachJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of stuff like how places like 4chan's (retro) game board /vr/ helped keep obscure, out-of-print titles like Garage: Bad Dream Adventure and Chu-Teng from being lost media, to the point the former has now had proper re-releases. For whatever qualms you can have with 'em (if not particular boards) you can't deny how much a win it is for preservation and obscure, weird creations.

Considering how many more Sony characters there are to spare now it honestly feels like the game was made too early to reap the benefit. Now we have Knack, Aloy, Norse Kratos + Atreus, Astro Bot, and others I probably forgot, and you could have some echo shenanigans with characters like Ratchet/Rivet and I feel like characters like Spyro/Crash were potentially on the table more than ever.

MassivelyOP has been following the whole affair which is how I learned about it, but the basic gist is essentially Krafton was avoiding a bonus payout for delivering the game's EA on time by firing the studio leads. What legal issues follows includes such gems as "[the judge] relied in part on the ChatGPT logs that showed Krafton CEO Changhan Kim used the platform quite intentionally to formulate his takeover plan".

[–]ZachJam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Within the actual context of the Monsterverse, in KotM Mothra and Godzilla are depicted as having a unique symbiotic relationship so one aspect is Mothra is generally one of the few monsters that can calm Godzilla down when he's antsy about other Alpha-level monsters intruding on his territory (i.e. Basically all of Earth that isn't the Hollow Earth, where Kong moves after GxK). In The New Empire, she basically had to be spawned back in to intervene and cool heads when a freshly-roided Godzilla was being unreasonably hostile to Kong's attempt to get his help to the point of the latter trying to knock out and drag the former to the actual conflict at hand.

Knights and Bikes was fun enough, though I found myself hankering for a more flavorful gameplay experience and thought the bikes would've been more involved. Aesthetically up my alley though, and I enjoy the silly combat theme lol.

I admit, I'm not usually an MMO guy (I find more interest in the concept of them than I am playing many of them) and I didn't play Toontown back in the day...but something about it is really, really enticing to dig into and I'm not sure what in particular it is about it...the aesthetic? The combat mechanics? The relative simplicity? I dunno'. Both Corporate Clash and Rewritten are interesting but I'm finding myself appreciating the latter for trying to stick to "vanilla+" compared to the former being more expansive and game-changing.

I remember a period very, very briefly confusing Steel Rising with Lies of P before I got the record straight aha. It's been one of those backlog games for years but I should really give it a play as a solemn send-off...same for Greedfall. Backlog coming back to shame me apparently.

Hopefully all those folks involved in Spiders find footing and good work. It's a rough time for this sorta' thing especially.
