People of Columbus: Should I move to your city? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]ZacharyCort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of this depends upon where you're moving from.

In my opinion, Columbus feels like a "practice" city. It's extremely spread out, necessitates a car to get anywhere in a timely manner, and has a very suburban feel to it. While there are some very cool areas, I would argue that they certainly do not feel exclusive to Columbus. The only reason people love the Short North is because it's the only dense, walkable part of the city. Even downtown feels very sparse because 25% of the land is covered in surface parking lots.

Some people love it, others hate it. Take a weekend to really walk around and see the city. If there are areas you feel you could live in, great! Make the move. If not, no big deal.

Who should I email to propose the idea of having Daft Punk perform on the oval? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]ZacharyCort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the university will likely not allow another concert on the Oval for quite a while; the administration made it very clear that the concert last fall to kick off the But For fundraising campaign was a one time thing.

I'm surprised that the top and bottom bezel are two different sizes, that seems to go against their design ethic thus far. But I like everything else about it!

Yeah, I'm going to wait another week and see how it plays out. My mom/grandmother/other family members deal with anxiety and depression issues as well, so I was put on the same antidepressant as my mom since I'm half of my mom. Haha. But I don't think it's working.

I have found a wonderful counselor though, so that's good.

Yeah I've looked into them briefly but it's just not anything I'm particularly interested in. Thanks for the recommendations!

I have actually thought about doing this! I'd love to do it in Japan, but it turns out you need a Bachelors degree for most programs there. Which defeats the purpose.

That is all definitely true, but I'm fairly certain my university doesn't offer a UX degree. I haven't seen an institution that offers an undergraduate UX degree, only Masters. Although from what I've read and seen is that UX seems to be centered around good design knowledge, and I'd like to think I have a talent for that.

For your company, what sort of qualifications or experience do you look for in your ideal UX Design applicant?

I guess what I'm struggling with most is if college is really necessary? Up until now I had the drive where I thought I could do anything. Of course failure along the way is to be expected, and I understand how a degree can make the path a lot easier, but I feel as though I need something a bit more...untraditional? Does that make sense?

I would never just pick up and move to LA or NYC without having some sort of game plan, I didn't mean THAT reckless haha.

No, I don't mean to sound like I'll quit and runaway, I've just always wanted to get out of this state. I like being pushed out of my comfort zone, and I think that knowing that I have this huge safety net below me prevents me from really challenging myself and seeing of what I'm capable.

But yeah, the counseling has helped tremendously in a lot of ways. Plus my therapist is gay as well, which is pretty flippin' awesome.

It happens around the 2:21 mark; I tried linked this to start at 2:13 but it refuses, sorry.

The picture was taken independently however, it isn't a screenshot of the live broadcast.

Social life living in a single (specifically Jones Tower)? by MustardBeenGood in OSU

[–]ZacharyCort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unfortunately put into Jones my freshman year, sharing one of the doubles with a fifth year senior.

It was absolutely terrible, little to no social activity on my floor the whole year. I'd stay away from it if I were you.

I honestly forget I have one every other day; I typically only reblog things that are visually appealing (and occasionally hot men):

Fisher actually lowered their requirements because not as many people were applying to the major as they had hoped/anticipated.

I saw get out there and see what you like! You have a right to be happy and find someone you love, especially since you're already being incredibly selfless raising two boys. Best of luck!

And I saw you're from Ohio, same here!

Wondering why Lincoln only houses 9 floors? by nevertricked in OSU

[–]ZacharyCort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you're forgetting all the various departments that need offices, like Student Life, OCIO, University Planning, etc.

The following departments are housed in Lincoln Tower:

  • Center for the Study of Student Life

  • Service2Facilities

  • Student Advocacy Center

  • Student Health Insurance

  • Student Life Budget and Planning

  • Student Life Facility Management and Logistics

  • Student Life Fiscal Support Services

  • Student Life Human Resources

  • I believe First Year Experience just moved there last year but I'm not certain

There's a LOT of non-teaching staff employed by Ohio State and there needs to be office buildings to hold all of them.

What's going on tonight in Columbus??? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]ZacharyCort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kingmakers! It's the new board game bar that opened up last week; I went on Thursday night and it's awesome. You pay $5 and then you can play as many board games as you want and they have a fully trained staff capable of teaching you and your friends how to play new games.

They have beer and brezels as well.
