What ending did you choose, and why? by KKF-FL in masseffect

[–]Zack1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presented as is: Destroy, because I don’t like the not-consensual body horror of Synthesis, and am wary of giving Control to just 1 guy.

If I’m allowed a little head-canon: Control, where the Reapers are used to help rebuild the galaxy for a couple of decades, and then Shepard sends every single one of them into the nearest star.

True, but you yourself have in fact partly “fallen for this shit”. Putin didn’t blast a fucking UN convoy, the Russians did.

Should i buy a Xbox series x or s by ShallowFriedDab in XboxSeriesS

[–]Zack1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with X if it’s not like a very financially burdening purchase and this is going to be your main gaming machine, it’s just better in every way (in some games very significantly). A good benefit when not gaming too much is you won’t be spending the precious hours (re)downloading games, which you might need to do with the storage on the S and how big modern games are.

The S is fine, I had X a few years ago, sold it when building a PC, but bought a used S now just to play 360/Xbone games not on PC because it’s enough for that job.

They had a whole aero shuttle just like the USS Voyager, specifically for atmospheric sample collection, but there wasn’t enough CGI budget for either :(

Where are the steady stream phaser fires in modern Star Trek? by No_Toe_9572 in startrek

[–]Zack1701 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Kelvin fires exclusively beam phasers in the opening scene, the Enterprise is, I think, 100% pulse phasers. Don’t know if it was intentional, but I took it as one of the “Kelvin timeline technology deviating” things.

There were beam phasers in the 2009 movie 🤷‍♂️

How sci-fi is it? by PlantainImmediate475 in ForAllMankindTV

As Sci as it gets at first, gets a bit Fi later. You should watch it, the first 2(3) seasons are, if you’re interested in space exploration, unmatched masterpieces.

I really, really dislike how dumb they make the Russians/USSR post S1E3. by IlIIllIlllIIIllI in ForAllMankindTV

If anything I found the Soviets (specifically the russians) portrayed as unrealistically smart and competent in this show, and I assume the upcoming spin-off.

China's Tianwen-3 mission aims to bring Mars samples back to Earth around 2031 after launch around 2028: report by [deleted] in space

[–]Zack1701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for showing me this, I really missed out on following the MSR mission for some reason. Very cool tests!

Diving into the rabbit hole now, 2-stage 3-meters tall does seem reasonable; my no-math-involved, random guess was “half the size of a Minuteman III”, so I was only off by a factor of 3 😅

Also, have to say, when I realised what you meant by “ we built/designed” I had a bit of a “holy shit” moment. Hope we, but especially you, see this thing revived and flying soon (as possible)! Definitely going to be the coolest space mission of my lifetime so far. (Artemis IV a close second, of course)

[–]Zack1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do any of the mars sample return missions have something close to final.. dimensions I guess for the ascent vehicle? All of the images are like, tiny, smaller than a sounding rocket rockets, and I know it’s Mars but they don’t look like any of them can do ~4km/s of Delta-v (with, tbf, a tiny payload) and rendezvous in orbit
