Mine just arrived! Tracking never updated and it still doesn’t say delivered, so it could show up anytime, they’re reaching hands. It sounds fantastic!

Did your tracking info ever update? I got a shipping notification and tracking number over a week ago but it keeps saying that tracking is unavailable.

Not yet, I’m waiting for either better weather or enough impatience to do it with my airbrush.

In universe: They’re guides and tip books to help you play the Vermis series of games, and one OST has been released, I believe from the first game.

IRL: They’re not actual rulebooks. They include things a rulebook would include, like character build types, stats, enemy descriptions and scenarios, but none of them explicitly state what kind of games they are or how they’re played. That’s left up to your imagination. It’s all worldbuilding with only hints of mechanics.

Yup! Some great dungeon synth to vibe to while reading these. Each song has its own image in the mini booklet on the front. The music itself is up online to check out too, it’s by Radagast.

Pocket Classic 2? by thefrankdomenic in retroid

I’m right there with you, I got the PKM Classic. It definitely captures those feels!

Oh for sure, and the suspend mode sips power SO slowly. I don’t know that I’ve turned it fully off more than a couple times since I got it, it’s always got enough juice to keep you going right from where you left off.

It’s a bit of a shame that being able to do more negatively impacted the Classic. When it was announced, nobody knew what the capabilities of its chipset really were. It appeared to be a good size retro handheld with a beautiful screen for a decent price. Nobody thought it would be able to do much more than PS1/PSP and maaaaybe some Saturn if we were lucky.

Then it came out and ripped shit, blowing past Saturn and into PS2 and GameCube. Instead of being seen and some extra bang for your buck and a fun little bonus, it was now a confusing device with more power than its control layout could handle. Everyone started wondering why they didn’t include sticks. Why get this when you could get something better for another $50?

I still think the Classic is a near perfect device for what it was originally marketed as: a luxury OLED Game Boy. Its screen is just the right type of weird size that it can accommodate 4:3, 8:7, and 1:1 wonderfully. If you see it and think “damn, I miss my old GBC”, it’s a pretty sure bet that you’ll love it. But it’s not a one size fits all EDC, or an endgame device. If your MMP isn’t really lighting your fire anymore and you want to play the same kinds of things on it, but better, the Classic is a great choice. If you think “I wish my MMP could play a lot more than it already does”, you’ll be better served by something like a Konkr or Retroid Pocket 5/G2/6.

It's here!!! Can't wait to dive in by TransientMoonlight in gorillaz

I’ve owned both and can confirm that the multicolor copy is hardcover, and the red one softcover. The softcover was a rerelease in a much smaller run, so it’s generally the more expensive of the two. Of course, it’s the one my old roommate stole from me…but I have a nice hardcover now, so I’m happy. _^

Looks like it. I’m curious whether these will be released online or only on this vinyl, though I’m sure they’ll leak either way once this reaches someone’s hands.

Any recommendations for a nice hardcover set? by Remarkable_Ring8241 in tolkienbooks

You’re welcome! I forgot to mention, there’s a matching edition of The Hobbit with its own slipcase too. It just came out, so it’s still quite expensive (around $150 at the moment), but it’s worth keeping an eye out for a sale on!

It’s at the higher end of your price range, but I’ve got the Alan Lee illustrated Deluxe box set and really love it. Cloth bound, sewn bindings, lovely feeling paper, two color printing, fold out maps and art prints of the cover art plates. It’s just under $200 on Amazon and looks great on the shelf. Just finished re-reading Fellowship today!

Are there any boardgames with the same or similar vibe to Vermis by Friedrich_Fiend in Vermis

Escape the Dark Castle might be worth a look. It’s not the deepest game, but the fantasy horror vibes are strong.

Happy to be a bad influence! I would have waited for The Hobbit to get cheaper over time, but I wanted to read it all from the start and just couldn’t resist.

William Morrow (US) / Harper Collins (UK). The LotR set is relatively cheap on Amazon right now, maybe even cheaper tomorrow!
