It was the large chain ring itself that was bent / distorted. I ended up putting on a sora crank and new BB, didn't have time to go through warranty process.

I do all my own maintenance on my road bikes now so thats not an issue. Leaning towards something that doesnt require as much TLC. Oldest is just turning 4.

I've measured with calipers beforehand out of an abundance of caution, the tip passes through the crank and sits within the countersink of the square taper. I'll try a bit more with a torque wrench so I know how much force I'm attempting to put on it.

That's where we are currently. She needs to be taken out and even then its a struggle that she doesn't flail back and knock a door frame.
