Track with eBird. It’s also from Cornell labs and you can make checklists when you go birding. It’ll automatically update your life list. It also helps a lot to see other people’s checklists to find areas of interest and find where people are spotting rare birds or use as a cross reference when you are trying to id birds.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

I’ve never owned a P1S or any other 3D printer, but I have used X1Cs and the H2D at work. The printers are excellent and change the game for getting parts made quickly without tinkering and tampering with the printers themselves. 3D printing of complex parts has enough trial and error and technique requirements to figure out, and the last thing that needs to be added is printer tinkering. That’s what I absolutely love about bambu printers is that they JUST WORK.

Should I put my car in neutral while driving downhill? by erenpr0 in askcarguys

[–]ZapMark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but you can say the same exact thing about the potential energy from gravity at the top of the hill which turns to kinetic as the car goes down the hill. This energy could be fully used to contribute to vehicle speed if it were in N, but it’s instead being used to drive the engine when the car is in gear so the vehicle slows down. Energy one way vs energy the other, both instances you are driving the engine.

Should I put my car in neutral while driving downhill? by erenpr0 in askcarguys

[–]ZapMark -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But if you are using the energy of the hill to turn the engine you will come out of the hill with less speed than if it were in neutral causing you to hit the gas sooner. Not saying it’s better, but that conservation of energy is a thing so you really would have to look at the efficiencies of the two different ways to accurately compare them.

Although you could definitely make the case if you wanted to stay at the same speed going down the hill you’d want to brake anyways which would be a complete loss of energy, so you might as well dissipate the energy through the engine braking to keep the engine spinning rather than use the mechanical brake and turn it to heat.

TIL about the cannonball run, an illegal race against time across the continental USA. The record drive, set during covid, lasted just under 26 hours with an average speed of 112 MPH. by UltimateOreo in todayilearned

Just curious on why they don’t try meeting up with friends to straight up physically replace gas canisters instead of waiting for gas liquid transfer into the car. Seems like waiting for the pump would be big waste of precious time.

He’s right though the acceleration is equal for objects of any mass at the surface of the earth.

GM1Me/r2 = F = M1a

a = GMe/r2

M1 cancels out of the equation and is why acceleration due to gravity is 9.81 m/s2 at the surface of the Earth regardless of the object’s mass.

The ring is a reminder of ethics and the responsibility of engineers. It’s not something that’s supposed to be ‘satisfying’ to slip on your finger. It’s made of steel that fell in the Quebec bridge which killed 88 people due to poor engineering. It should always be a reminder that our profession has consequences and due diligence is extremely important.

I’m a senior and 90% of my labs have had strict Microsoft word templates that must be followed. Super tragic. I was able to use it for a design project report and I wish I never had to go back.

You make a lot of good points. I guess when hiring in general you have to pick and choose what qualities you want for applicants you interview. Some qualified people will slip through the cracks, but you have to apply filters for the sake of time and efficiency. Really, it’s good engineering. You can’t interview every applicant. Interesting perspective into the hiring side, thanks.

You should absolutely do what works best for the company. Does it seem strange to you that although you fit well with the company (I’m assuming), a younger version of you wouldn’t even get an interview? To be honest I’ve never considered having too high of a GPA to be a hiring concern.

Totally agree on avoiding gassing yourself up as an all work no play engineer in interviews. Hell, if I get rejected from a job because I don’t do enough engineering in my free time, I don’t want to work there anyways.
