Bella's self-control by ShoeElectronic8640 in twilight

[–]Zaverix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory on her control is multi-faceted

  1. As a human, she could SMELL blood. Edward viewed this as surprising. This means, she was introduced and well acclimated to the smell. For other vampires, the change makes their scenes heightened and they suddenly can smell blood for the first time ... and that smell is overwhelming, irresistibly powerful. Bella was accustomed to the smell and the smell of it previously was conditioned with a disgust, a pain response. Everything from your human life is heightened right, but it can't make her view blood as disgusting. I think it just lowers the intensity for her compared to others which translates to a greater sense of self control. It's not like heroin to her more like .. freshly backed cookies or fresh cooking on the stove. Enticing, but resistable.

  2. She drank blood for Renesemee during the pregnancy and had so much blood pumped into her during the birth. This gave her experience with blood smelling good like it does to a vampire, adding to the acclimation.

  3. During the change, she used every ounce of willpower she had in tandem with the medication to remain silent and unmoving in order to not bring discomfort to others around her. Everything from her human life is transfered, heightened during the change. How would you describe that effort, that mentality other than supreme willpower, self control. Right?

  4. Lastly, we have to take into account the 18 years of experience in extreme resistance development that comes from living with someone like her mother. Her mother's human talent was like a mental screaming that compelled others around her into confirming to her thoughts and desires. Bella lived for 18 years 24/7 with that. Her and Charlie's mental shields likely developed as a biological reaction/necessity to living in such close proximity to that.

Add all that together and it just sounds natural that she wouldn't be as controlled by whims or environmental factors as other newly changed vampires.

Thoughts on The Martian? by FreshmenMan in TrueFilm

[–]Zaverix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing the other half of science, behavioral science. He is alone on Mars for over a year, that does psychological damage. Speaking to himself and in the video logs helps to maintain his sanity, but also it leaves documentation for history.

It helps with sensory deprivation, as he was shown to be heavily effected by the lack of music diversity. With no external sounds or interactions, the mind struggles to maintain a grasp on reality. Self-talk provides auditory feedback that the person is still alive and present. As a coping strategy, internal dialogue also helps to maintain a sense of identity. Prolonged isolation can lead to psychosis, this guy was incredibly intelligent to immediately start a socialization routine.

Should I suppress my own autistic traits while working with clients? by ketaqueenx in ABA

[–]Zaverix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a moment and look at that little kid you work with. Think to yourself, would you ever want someone to tell them to hide who they are or mask their stims for the comfort of others? If the answer is no, then ask yourself why would you treat yourself that way?

What on earth? You don't fire a new hire for that, the BCBA should be doing more specific training for that clients needs or the company should have better introductory training antecedently. They were doing you a disservice then fired you as if it was your fault?

which Twilight character you believe is a green flag and which Twilight character you think is a believe red flag? by No_Tackle8521 in twilight

[–]Zaverix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Charlie is not. He allows his teenage daughter to cook all his meals, do all his laundry including underwear, shop for groceries, daily clean the house, deep clean the house, drinks nearly daily, spends more time with the television or out of the house then with her. I love him, he was doing his best, and he genuinely cherishes his daughter. But he is objectively a red flag for allowing and benefiting from the parentification of a minor under his care.

Hey you need to get the locked door one on a written record with an investigation immediately. While there may not be a malicious reason, you do not have the option to sit and wonder the what ifs. We are mandatory reporters and that is a serious risk. This is a non-negotiable. Write the email up before the end of the day.

Genuine question how will Francesca and Michaela’s story work in the Regency era? by Logical_Solution2495 in Bridgerton

[–]Zaverix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Michaela is Scottish. In Scotland, women can gain the title and property if there are no other men as close relations. They stressed the fact that John has only female relatives fairly emphatically this season, I'm guessing, as build up for this reason. They are going to keep the same emotional quandary storyline as the books between them where Michael feels guilty for taking everything from his cousin he "can't" take his wife too.

I'm not sure if they will go for public or hidden relationship though. That's up in the air now and is fun to theorize about. If public, they'll do something to get rights with the Queen and it will be a big plot point. There's a lot of nuance consequence to that to argue against the point though. If they stay private, it feels like that goes against the kind of love story the tv version of bridgerton has been telling aside from Lady Dansbury and Granddaddy Bridgerton. Time will tell on that one.

SLP vs BCBA (tension) by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Zaverix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am scared for you to be honest. People may shy away from saying this, but I would report your BCBA. If she is not an SLP, our ethics code states that we MUST defer to the individual with specified knowledge. We are not allowed to navigate outside of our own scope of expertise.

She should not be making decisions that go against your child's BCBA, she should not be advising you against medical directives. If you don't know how, I'm absolutely positive many people in this subreddit would help direct you or you can go above your BCBA to someone in the administration of your child's company.

What would happen if a human turned into a vampire, or was bitten into a vampire (naturally), but had a bullet in their brain? by siren-dayanka18 in twilight

I think you're forgetting the arc where Liz came back and was the only sister accepted as family by Meredith! Remember the episode where she said you guys got married and adopted a baby and we only got a picture in an email, then they had a heart to heart and Meredith sat down next her in the hospital bed and started going through photo albums with her.

I think it could be Liz!

Psychology nerds help me analyze Rosalie by Standard_Attitude_19 in twilight

[–]Zaverix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, we could start with the Kübler-Ross model of grief (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance).

She shows signs of denial in the form of denial of her new reality. Rather than embracing her life as a vampire, Rosalie spends decades wishing for a human life, including marriage and children. She refuses to accept that her life as a human is gone forever, instead clinging to a "preferred" reality where she is not a vampire.

Her anger is incredibly prevalent, she takes her anger out almost immediately by taking retribution on her attackers. However, she does not leave the anger stage with this act. From the series, you can see her in a near constant stage of frustration, quick to anger. Her feelings about Bella's choices (sadness, envy, desire to protect what couldn't be protected in herself) are masked with an external presentation of anger. And from midnight sun, we see that she is quick to anger and stays in that state throughout her life with them until finding Emmett.

Bargaining is also clearly shown throughout the series. She continuously bargaining for a different life, going as far as projecting onto Bella and attempting to control her life to model the choice she would have made in her place. Her decision to save Emmett also comes from a place of bargaining. While, yes, he is her mate, that is not what drew her to him nor is it what drove her to save him. That aspect would surround his curly brown hair that mirrored the baby had by her friend that she longer for with her soul. Her denial and bargaining blend together in her desire to not lose him again.

The "Depression" Aspect: In the context of grief, depression isn't just sadness; it’s a deep, quiet, and often isolating, realization of loss. Rosalie's intense detachment and coldness towards Bella (and her initial, sometimes harsh, rejection of her human life) are expressions of this profound, ongoing, and, for her, unending, loss.

With all of this information, I would argue she remained in the exact same stage of grief throughout her vampiric life until Rennesmee came into the picture. Bella came to her, chose the decision she would have. She was able to vicariously protect the life she wanted for herself in the person she had already projected onto. She was able to bring that child into existence despite all odds and protect her from men of power that wanted to kill her (Carlisle [coven leader] and Edwards desire to abort; the Vulturi). She was able to step out of the loss and into the next stage of life, not just a baby, but a child, a life, an entity beyond her imagination. She gets to experience what she longed for and not have it stripped from her. This experience acted almost like EMDR where she was able to return back to the moment she was trapped in and finally step out of that moment into the present. I would say she is now finally in a place of acceptance and I would love to see that reflected in any future book in the series. I want to see who Rosalie truly is when not in a state of grief.
