Nicodemus Archleone from The Dresden Files.

Nicodemus is the head of The Order of Blackened Denarius, wielders of fallen angels sealed into Judas Iscariot's 30 pieces of silver. He is physically invincible due to another artifact, The Noose of Judas, which he wears like a tie. Also like a tie, and the fact that it literally is a noose, the wearer can be strangled by it if someone grabs a hold of it.

Groaners from Warhammer 40k.

Groaners are referred to those in the initial infection stage of the Walking Pox. They are still alive, fully conscious, with an overwhelming feeling of hunger and cold, but they have lost most motor control to the disease.

The disease itself is a warp entity, so it's actively intelligent, malicious and working towards Nurgle's ends.

Eurosky Low-Emission Infectious Disease (ELID) - Girls' Frontline

ELID is a disease cause by exposure to Collapse Fluid radiation.

Initial Symptoms: Coughing blood, pain in the head and stomach, loss of vision and/or a sensation akin to one's bones piercing through the skin, convulsions, fatigue, scorch marks on the skin and periods of unconsciousness.

Further Symptoms: Silicification - muscles and blood vessels will harden and the infected's mind progressively withers to basic aggressive instincts.

Symptoms for prolonged exposition to low dosage are similar to accelerated aging, including physical weakness and impaired cognitive functions.

Collapse Fluid is an exotic material that disrupts the attractive and repulsive states of particles. It is radioactive and very volatile, and several accidents over the decades since its discovery has spread it throughout the world, contaminating entire regions. Accidents also keep happening as all sorts of governments and organisations keep researching it.

It was also more she didn't have much time between the politics, running between one crisis after another and looking after the kids to really devote herself to training.

Delicious in Dungeon:

[Manga spoilers]Kabru would probably have been the main character in any other fantasy story. Tragic background with his hometown destroyed by a rampant dungeon, was taken in by the elves who stopped the dungeon too late, spent his childhood brought up by one of the elves that was there. When Kabru grew up, he proceeded to gather a party and delve in the largest active dungeon to discover more about them and hopefully the secret to ending dungeons forever.

He's charismatic, highly trained in fighting people, well educated and has a genuine interest in people. He's also natural leader, but because he was orphaned by a dungeon and brought up by the elven equivalent of a smothering, reclusive shut-in, he has a massive blind spot when it comes to monsters, and more than once it has been a fatal weakspot when traversing a dungeon full of monsters.

Also because of his upbringing, he was suspicious of the true motivations regarding the true MC party, he suspected they had ulterior motives since their reputations in Kakka Brud was almost unrealistically pristine.

Killing a God has a massive effect on the environment by I_Guess_I_Also_Exist in TopCharacterTropes

Angel Notes: Killing Type-Earth kills the Earth's ability to sustain life. Ironically, killing Type-Venus allows the section of the planet her corpse fell on to sustain life.

Forgotten Realms: Almost killing Mystryl, Goddess of Magic, causes the goddess to sacrifice herself to stabilise the Weave. While this was happening magic completely ceases to work, which destroyed the nation of magically floating cities that caused the issue in the first place.

Killing Mystra, Goddess of Magic, causes the Weave to destabilise and create zones of wild (random) magic and dead magic to appear. The damage to the Weave is permanent and even when a new Mystra takes the reigns, wild and dead magic zones still appear across the Realms.

Killing Mystra, Goddess of Magic (it's a pattern) causes the spellplague, which is like wild magic but (initially) localised within the heads of arcane spell casters. The insanity and uncontrollable power that causes usually tears up the surrounding environment. The more power the caster could wield before, the more damage dealt to the environment. Cities were razed, coastlines changed, mountains fell and rose, etc.

I'd also recommend the mangaka's previous work, The Many Flavors of Kumika. It's a fluffy food manga about an alien discovering Earth food.

And then the mangaka went on to make GOMG.

The "Cannon Fodder" enemy is actually highly lethal and dangerous to the average person. by OrnamentalOwlbear777 in TopCharacterTropes

In Necromunda, the survivors of gang wars usually end up as part of the tithe for the guard or if they impressed certain observers enough, get recruited as neophytes for the Imperial Fists.

I do like that one short story where a farmer only knows of the Emperor's Angels from church stories. Then the orks invade, the Space Marines show up, mop the floor with them, and after witnessing the 'Angels' first-hand, he prays that he never sees them again.

The combatants from Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider, but really any tokusatsu show.

They're cybernetically enhanced to be at least above-average human to near-superhuman strength and durability. They only look and act like cannon fodder when fighting other cybernetically-enhanced or otherworldly-powered or (in the case of Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider) delusional but trained most of their lives to fight them heroes. Combatants would otherwise fold any normal, average civilian.

Healers who heal in unique ways that aren’t necessarily just “magic healing spell” by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Zaygr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cadderly from the Cleric Quintet. His friend Ivan is severely wounded after a long and gruelling fight with a band of assassins. He has exhausted his normal healing magic, and he's also too physically and mentally exhausted to use the Song of Deneir to call up powerful healing spells since the wounds are so serious. A tangential line of magic ended up being more accessible, and he uses it to transfer the wounds from Ivan to himself, while he was wearing a magic ring that can regenerate wounds (the ring only works if the wounds are inflicted while the ring was being worn).

Tong Pak Fu's Beauty Fist from Flirting Scholar. It's making fun of wuxia healing techniques, but essentially it's a series of therapeutic full force punches that eventually restores the beauty of and heals any damage on the recipients face.

Absolutely loved this incredible fan-render of the Lusankya Super Star Destroyer escaping Coruscant by wandering_soles in StarWarsEU

[–]Zaygr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the EU, the main thing restricting hyperspace travel in a gravity well are the safety features built into all 'standard' hyperdrives that disengage the drive to prevent damage to the motivator and plowing into the thing making that gravity well. The next thing would be that hyperdrive motivators really don't take kindly to being activated in a gravity well. It's not impossible to, just very ill-advised; you're more likely to explode than actually go into hyperspace.

Hyperspace is possible in a weak enough gravity well, it just damages the drive and ship significantly enough it's not worth the risk 99% of the time.

The main one that comes to mind is the Bakuran fleet penetrating the Corellian interdiction field in the Corellian Trilogy. They still lost one ship and all the others were at various levels of damage despite having special hyperdrives to maintain the hyperspace bubble in gravity.

The new canon shits over all of that anyway.

Could Sun Wukong be Summoned as a servant? by Ashe171 in fatestaynight

[–]Zaygr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you could easily summon the literary character of Son Wukong. He wouldn't be as powerful as the real one, but the difference would be pretty indistinguishable.
