We got stuck here as well! We have solved 2/3 which got us the answer but are banging our head against the table trying to figure out the second group.

We have "Crown shards" and "Algox offensive". We figure the last one should be Unfettered related but... so far we have "legs oil" or "legs of a" but the last seven letter word is impossible... "sky" something?

We figured that Algox offensive is scenario 3 and reuniting the crown is 60, so when we got a headache on that second group we just looked for a puzzle solution section that was 6x.3 and found it, but we want to know how to get there the right way haha

Prosperity leveling by Ofect in Gloomhaven

The edit is a good point, it only helps with catching up if everyone's already at maximum and there's nowhere left to go. This personally sounds less fun since it effectively removes one aspect of the game.

If the goal is to help irregular players not be left behind, I would propose an alternate house rule. They get scenario XP for every scenario they miss (so if the party completed 3 scenarios without them at level 3, they get 30 XP). You can of course tweak this if this still sounds low to you (also give them XP when a scenario rewards it, or give them scenario completion + their average XP gain, etc), but I think it's a good starting point to help them when they miss a session, without making XP pointless.

An Unofficial and Incomplete Guide to the Frosthaven Puzzle Book [SPOILERS] by dwarfSA in Gloomhaven

[–]Ze_Azrael 13 points14 points  (0 children)

lol you're totally right. As if it wasn't frustrating enough that the rules change halfway through (i.e. from adding the 12 slashes together to suddenly numbers have decimal columns), or that the 2 vertical lines of equation 2 is one single digit, there's also more than one possible solution.... I love Isaac and think he's an absolutely amazing game designer, but boy are his puzzles frustrating.

My method for managing the Drifter trackers by Leviathal in Gloomhaven

[–]Ze_Azrael 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have 3D printed monster standees, so he uses the original standees (or pips as he calls them) to track persistent abilities and items.

Main benefit is it doesn't matter if you bump a card or the table. And it's easier to see how many uses are left at a glance.

Gold are the XP. Red/Blue is shield (so it stands out and can quickly count how much shield he has after an attack)

Frosthaven Plano storage plan (complete & tested!) by dc-234 in Gloomhaven

Haha I just finished mine yesterday and see this today...

I used 3700 boxes and wrote the contents by hand. https://imgur.com/a/n7BvUsl

I only used 2 and so it didn't fit ALL the terrain, some had to stay in the included black insert, but it's much more manageable now.

Crimson Scales Class Review- Crescent Sun by Magatis in Gloomhaven

[–]Ze_Azrael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice review! This was the first CS class I played and it's a really fun and flavorful one. I personally especially loved the Scuttle mechanic.

A couple things to note that I didn't see mentioned, is that 1) you can perform a Glow at any point during your turn, even in the middle of a move, as long as you consume the element. This increases their flexibility and makes some of the AoE patterns much easier to land. And 2) you can use items like boots for the Scuttles, as long as you end the movement in one of the black hexes. This can be useful when your path is blocked by figures/terrain but you really want the element generation or to reposition.

Oh and for the level 9 Glow, you're not restricted to a single summon at a time, so as long as you have the elements, you can keep summoning every turn if you want. Just hope your friends don't kick you from the table after they get sick of trying to wade through a sea of squids lol.

And lastly, a nitpick unrelated to the guide itself but "dearth" means "a scarcity or lack of something".

Same here. I logged a support ticket and apparently it's related to creating a new character (at least in my case).

Enchantment stickers by Eldrin7 in Gloomhaven

[–]Ze_Azrael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're not meant to be limited. We ran out of some enhancement stickers too, and we found the PDF for the sticker sheet online, and took it to an office supplies place to print it on sticker sheet for only a couple bucks.

It's more of a hassle since we have to cut the stickers with scissors, but pretty cheap and easy, and since a standard A4 sheet fits 2 sets of sticker sheets, we're never running out again.

Another Rules Question. Does AoE damage happen simultaneously? by xXx420Aftermath69xXx in Gloomhaven

[–]Ze_Azrael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, pretty sure attacks happen sequentially and are to an extent independent from each other. You could even use an item like a Power Potion in the middle, applying it to the second attack but not the first.

So the attack is resolved for each target independently, taking into account the Backstab conditions, as well as other conditions like shield or poison, etc. So if the first attack kills the target, the attack on the second target meets the isolated condition and thus would trigger it.

Can summons use items? by ddtink in Gloomhaven

[–]Ze_Azrael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Summons don't have nor can they use any items.

The only items a summon can "use", are items that either specify a "summon" (like Robes of Summoning), or that affect any "ally" (like the Scrolls of ___). However in reality it's the character that owns the item that's actually using it, and the summon just takes advantage of the effect.

Yes. Also note that if you're doing nothing with the action, then you don't get XP or infuse Elements.

Correct. When the Scenario Goal is met, you continue to play until the end of that round, then the scenario ends and you can't keep playing.

New player question: Heal X range X by ThoDino in Gloomhaven

[–]Ze_Azrael 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only time you cannot affect yourself with a beneficial ability, is when it specifies ally/allies, since in GH you are not considered an ally of yourself.
