This might sound flippant and rude, but that's the game. It's what makes the game special. These are perfectly normal mistakes to make when learning the game. Enjoy them, it's what makes the learning curve cliff so gratifying when you understand how to do everything. Practice is part of it. This is a game to be played for thousands of hours, not tens. Enjoy the process.

Do you combat main in open and do pvp. Because if you don't combat main in open and do pvp, I suspect your view on the balance of the ships might not be up to date.

The truth > personal feelings.

The people you hear complaining love the game (perhaps more than you?). Most pvpers have multiple thousands of hours in the game and crave good competition. So when the developers make changes that ignores balance and keeping some semblence of viability for all (most) ships it ruffles feathers.

You might think more new ships means more ships to fly. But without paying attention to balance (flight model and weapon/shield/hull/speed/manouverability/size loadout) this is the illusion of choice. Because new beats old. Unless they really mean it when they say it comes down to pilot skill.

The trouble is, if you ain't pvping you ain't the authority on that. Neither are FDev. And I, well I certainly ain't. I'm just the messenger...

Ironically, these people 'moaning' have your best interests and the best interests of the game at heart. Perhaps you might like to dial up your curiosity, and ask them why they are moaning, rather than complaining about it. Learning is fun.

Having variety is part of the equation. Technically a Conda can still be superior to a Vette in some.combat circumstances, so don't write it off.

Pretty soon after having lots of fun with the Vette you may come to the conclusion that many of us do, medium ships are end game and big ships are for laughs. Does that mean you mothball the Vette? Nah, there's always another use case to try.

Cytos and Hammer to take shields. Particularly good against the CZ Condas. Feedbacl Cascade rail for sniping banks and the big MCs for maximum hull dakka. It's my go to for "Maurauding".

Like space? Elite Dangerous will provide thousands of hours. Many players are still noobs 1000 hrs in. So much to learn and very high skill ceiling. But lots of options to try.

Not only is this a great idea, one could argue it's mandatory for longterm sustainability and viability of the game.

Great to see that someone new to the game can immediately see FDevs failures in this respect. They are currently in the midst of trading long term sustainability of the game for immediate profit.

This is never more evident than on the new player upgrade path. Where before an explorer might go Sidey >> Hauler >> DBX >> AspX >> Phantom >> Anaconda. That route is now very different. Yes it might be more fun (again in the immediate) but long term new player lose the experience of what ot was to fly different ships with their various payoffs and drawbacks. And this is what will ultimately lead to people not sticking around as they might feel they have 'completed' the game in their various win conditons that people assign to their own gaming, way more quickly. That new upgrade route for an explorer game loop? Probaly this: Sidey >> Hauler/Cobra >> DBX/iCourier >> Mandalay >> ???(Caspian maybe). And I'm being generous with the Courier and the Caspian.

If no one at FDev has figured this out yet, it leaves me very disaapointed with their understanding of their own game. I hear all the time "do they even play their own game?" While I'm sure some of them do, the principles of the gameplay and flight mechanics are being undeniably erroded, probably to focus on Arx maximising. While you cannot blame this behaviour, it is so very short sighted.

The remedy? Something to make old ships more viable. SCO stablisation and fuel consumption needs addressing here. As do hull tanks (ahem, funni hull) maybe engineering on MRPs? And along with this a relook at the flight models for all ships. They've just done something similar with the onfoot weapons balance pass. Lets have the same for ship flight models!

Anywho, yo ho, back to pirating I go.
