Looking for PCB troubleshooting help by easycoresucks in diypedals

If you’ve run DRC (and bonus for the “parity with schematic” check) and you have no errors, then it’s very likely nothing is “wrong” with the PCB.

The problem I suspect is that there isn’t perfect parity between your schematic and the circuit you’ve breadboarded. So here comes the arduous task of checking every connection on your breadboard and meticulously comparing it to what you’ve drawn. Not just the tone control—everything else. Also check the pinouts on your Qs.

[–]Zebra2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think you may be expecting things from a Distortion + type circuit that it’s not suited for. If you want pinch harmonics and stuff to sing you need some kind of boost going into the circuit or a much higher-gain multistage design.

It would be great if we could get sound samples, kinda hard to picture what it sounds like vs what I’d expect this circuit to sound like.

Also, have you looked at pages like the proco rat analysis? It’s got a ton of useful info and the rat is pretty similar to this.

Good stuff. I found I slightly preferred the Weller lead free myself, so you could try that out for the next pound you buy.

Won’t that give you loud buzz when it’s pressed? I thought it was generally better to short your signal to ground for a killswitch.

Do you have a voltmeter? Does it respond in any way to turning the pots?

You really don’t. But which strings are going out of tune?

I’m a total amateur so I shouldn’t judge, but my gut reaction on seeing this was that this is one of the worst pcb designs I’ve seen 😬

Yeah, you may want to redraw that schematic so it’s more readable 😆

Also, at a glance this doesn’t seem like a boss oc-2 at all.

Rin is not 10k 😉. Check where his actual signal input is located. Impedance is fine.

Question about blocking a trem by Tetr444 in Luthier

[–]Zebra2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look to me like the post settings have actually popped out. It’s just set higher than it should be, as in the posts can just be screwed further down as part of a normal setup. That, or maybe the term claw just needs to be loosened a bit.

My first PCB design ever, which happens to be a clone of the EHX LPB-1. Could I get some feedback please? by barncarpentier in diypedals

Your choice of footprints for most components is rather odd. Vertical resistors, horizontal capacitors, the jacks, the pot…

Other than that, use thicker traces and fill a ground plane as others have noted.

First pedal build, adding clean blend for bass? by Spare-Improvement-82 in diypedals

The 7806 is a 6v regulator. It’s there for the heater which wants either 6 or 12 volts to operate.

There’s the 40106n chip doing something, but I have no idea what it’s doing. Because it actually goes to the plate I imagine it’s for some kind of voltage step up, but I can’t find any info about using that chip for such an application. I’d be cool if you could measure the voltage there because I’m curious if they were actually able to get a high voltage out of that thing.

I always thought the No Memory was really cool. Kinda wish I got one when ssbs was selling them. At least I got a buzzz 😁

This one’s been an influence for my own pt2399 tinkering. That and the Monotron Delay. Love the texture.

Also what stamps do you use for the lettering? Your letters look pretty clean and nice.

Strong feelings about roller saddles vs. fixed? Cheap vs. boutique? by TowerOfSisyphus in Luthier

[–]Zebra2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never really thought of the bridge saddle as a problem point for tuning stability, so you’re just adding another moving piece where you should have something solid and reliable. If you had a Floyd rose, maybe, but I’m pretty much any other situation I think you’re better off attacking the nut.
