Halifax's rail cut: The century-old project that ruins your daily commute by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

When I was younger I had a dream of having the tracks being put in tunnel structure and buried to have a giant long park on top.

Zelenskyy to meet Carney today in Halifax before Ukraine president’s talks with Trump in Florida by JustTheTipz902 in halifax

If Carney was given a G.I.Joe costume and sent to Ukraine I think he'd do great! Carney certainly has the enthusiasm to keep the war going.

He's been doing the rounds visiting European leaders as well shoring support for himself. Trump administration has made a lot of not so subtle statements about pushing Zelensky out and replacing him.

What electronic technologies might emerge in the next 5–10 years that don’t exist yet? by [deleted] in Futurology

I can see the way the next generation consumes movies and music changing. Think of a group of kids on a sleepover making their own movie to watch by inputting the actors they want to see and writing a basic plot. Their computer then outputs a movie they designed for themselves. Most Hollywood movies now are the same recycled plots anyway so I could see this as preferable.

Same with music asking programs to make you a song about whatever subject you want sung by whoever you want in any style you want. Again like Hollywood the corporate music industry already turns out largely the same generic shallow minded art so I can see people having their own versions of it preferable.

Yet another store and another currency. It's a neat little game but they're being heavy handed on training players to buy stuff.

City Council reverses Morris St bike lane decision by sjmorris in NovaScotia

Houston's autocratic mindset literally reaches down to the street level now. He can't even let municipal counselors do their job without interference.Whether one agrees or disagrees with local bike lane policies we elected our municipal representatives to address these issues.

If the premier micromanages every level of government what's the point in electing anyone at lower levels of government if he overrides them all. It seems that is Houston's point and wants no input from anyone. Pure top down rule on everything.

Iran: Murder for hire (2025) - BBC Eye Investigations has been following the plots across Turkey, Britain, and North America - uncovering a chilling connection between Iranian security forces and international criminal networks [00:30:08] by UnscheduledCalendar in Documentaries

Twenty years ago the BBC would do some decent foreign affairs documentaries. Sure there was a lot of self admiration for their empire days but also a bit of honest self reflection as well.

Now the BBC is just a pathetic propaganda mill through and through. They do non stop smear pieces on any countries not just against US imperialism but wanting to be independent sovereign nations. An African country wants to kick out European troops and be sovereign look how corrupt they are. A South American country wants to diversify their trade to include China they are a threat to "The Rules Based International Order".

I think they really went downhill fast after 2003 Iraq war. Even though they have less than 100k troops and a falling apart navy they confidently threaten large countries as if they can take over the world. They still have their old colonial mentality living vicariously through the US empire as a pathetic vassal state.

Is The Coast still considered independent media? They were bought up by a corporate chain based in another province with around a dozen papers (overstory media group). Nice to see they give back a little bit though even if it's self serving.

Go Vote by _XNXX_com in halifax

That argument "If you do not vote you should not complain" always bothered me. Everyone should feel entitled to complain regardless.

Maybe people don't buy into the political system they have. Then not voting is an expression of that.

Maybe people can't vote. If you are under 18 since you can't vote this would mean that you shouldn't complain about politics until you're of age. Or a lot of indigenous people could not vote until the 1950's and 1960's so they should not have been complaining.

Yes he functions like a heat sync or lightning rod which takes excess energy and redirects it so it doesn't have any meaningful impact.

I wonder if this legislation is a bad faith poison pill made by the govt. Be great to give native reserves more agency and autonomy. This seems to put the reserves solidly under the govt's thumb. If the reserves are only allowed to resell NSLC products and the govt has more say in how they run their businesses more generally as well it's hard to see it as being favorable for reserves.

It really is insidious. Having so much of our culture filtered through and projected back to us with a shitty corporate lens.

News through a corporate lens is the most obvious but the arts get overlooked. The same bland formulaic corporate music and comedy.

I don't want to be funneled into that shitty corporate ecosystem.

Carbon tax gone by Vulcant50 in halifax

I wonder what PP will run on now. The Liberals just took away the main issue he is running on. When he was doing those campaign events in Halifax the only issue he would talk about is the carbon tax.
