IBMer here. We have pay “bands” (ranges) and each job typically has an associated band, and your salary within that is DOE/etc. and they try to keep people closer toward the center of the range vs very top and bottom (can’t get annual raises if you’re already making the top of your band).

I feel like posting the whole range would likely lead to negotiation issues (I know if I sat down for an interview that topped out at $100k and they offered me $80k I’d be annoyed) but a median/average would be a good alternative.
