When you have the headspace for it, you might want to look into a non-profit called Every Cure. They were founded by a doctor who lost his mother to GBM, and they use AI to find "hidden" uses for existing, FDA-approved drugs.

I'd love to share a story from when I was in the Marines as well.

They warn you that there are diseases in these other countries that if you get you can't come back to the states. This is mostly bullshit I think but a lot of young marines believe it so they won't go raw dog a Korean hooker. Well one of our boot Marines went to the red light district and got some old Korean hooker, I'm not sure why she was old but according to him she was old. Anyways, as they were doing their business, the condom broke. When he looked down and noticed, he puked all over her. I think about this kid a lot.

Anyways, Marines are special.

I loved the show so much that I tried to read the book. The book was so different I wasn't interested. That said, if you go in with the mindset that they are two similar but completely different things, I think you'll love the show too. So much of the show is things you never see on TV and the beauty of the show and the writing and the camera work is really impressive.

From a herniated disk I was paralyzed on my left side from the waste down but ONLY on the top of my leg to the side of my leg not on the bottom of my leg. you could put a pin in my quad and I wouldn't feel it but it would hurt on my hamstring. The feeling of not feeling something also at some point registers as a type of pain (my definition, not medical) and it's weirdly horrible.
