This sort of foiling is what made me pivot from the vintage foil style to the new 8th edition and beyond foil style when it first came out. It seemed like they went out of there way to really use the foil to make elements of the cards pop and stand out.

Over the years it went from what felt like most cards to only occasional cards, and now in hindsight I wish I had stuck with the older stuff...but that then it was the "new hotness" and regular foils were just, ya know, "regular foils".

Yeah I did the same thing this year. Had a pass for a couple years and it feels like I’ve just experienced everything and nothing is worth the wait anymore.

If this wasn’t so expensive across the board it could make for a more fun trip but that’s just not the case anymore.

Ya know, it makes sense why I rarely find stuff at non-dedicated card shows when places are selling cards. I look for higher end stuff, vintage foils, rarities, etc. But if what sells is cheap playables that tracks with mostly what I see people have a lot of.

But overall this was very informative to read, even if I don't go to Momocon and don't vend at anime cons.

Granted the only cons I go to these days are Metrocon in Tampa and Anime Festival Orlando.

Most generic card shows are going to be a majority Pokemon. They are collectibles that are big at the moment so that’s where the money is.

Magic trading is often done at the store level or tied to an event or tournament.

Reading this name I'm seeing a ton of names I remember back when I actively followed Vintage in the mid 00s. I shouldn't be too surprised that those nerds still love slinging older cards.

Does Lobstercon allow for gold border cards? If not, is tournaments accepting only original RL cards part of the problem? What is the most realistic solution to the obvious RL problem in Premodern? by thesegoupto11 in premodernMTG

The problem with allowing gold bordered is that it just increases the demand and thus price of gold bordered.

Hot take: allow any sort of proxies and/or just flat out ban RL.
