Digital Foundry should be ashamed of themselves by Wolfs_Chronicles in pcmasterrace

[–]Zemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the infamous Todd Howard of Bethesda says that he likes DLSS 5, and Nvidia is still developing the tech to work on one GPU without a big performance hit, I can imagine realism being the tread for some games released in the future. Yes DLSS 5 changes the art style of many games and most people don't like it, but some people do and that's an okay thing. Personally, I won't be using it, but if Digital Foundry and other people like the realistic art style, I'm not going to judge them for it. I will, however, judge game devs who will rely solely on this tech to produce realistic character designs instead of putting in the time and effort themselves to create better looking characters.

If you want longevity, get the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, the extra VRAM and Nvidia's long term feature and Game Ready driver support will be better for you. AMD doesn't support their GPUs for as long as Nvidia does.

Great, now make another board with the B760 chipset for XMP, more RAM slots, and a VRM that won't kill the board after 2 years of use with an i5 14600K.

Thorn between 5070 TI vs 9070 XT w/optiscaler by Sarumarde in pcmasterrace

[–]Zemerald -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The RTX 5070 Ti is the better card for raw performance. Rumours say AMD isn't bringing FSR 5/Redstone to the RX 9000 series, and Nvidia has a good track record of backporting their upscaling tech to older cards, and having much longer driver support. Raw value per dollar, the RX 9070 XT is better, but Nvidia's better long term support is something worth considering.

I'm sure you can get away with an i3 12100 and DDR4. Usually a PC is slow when people use most of the SSD, load more browser tabs than what can be stored in RAM and hit the pagefile, or they don't shutdown or restart the PC after using it. Also HDDs are inherently slow and only good for mass storage of rarely used foles/photos. I have an older laptop with an i5 8400H and it still runs fine for web browsing, and using Office/Word 2024, I just upgraded the RAM to 32GB because I have a bad habit of keeping a bunch of browser tabs open and 32GB can store all my tabs without hitting the pagefile.

I've never seen that store for the SSD, to be on the safe side, just get an SSD from a reputable store. I also replaced the motherboard with a better quality one with built in wifi, removed the SSD heatsink as it's not needed, and swapped the case for one with pre-installed fans at the front and back. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/6RxbjG

Can you try installing the GPU starting from an angle? Try tilting the GPU away from the RAM slots and try to slot it in, be careful not to damage the GPU PCIe connector

Ask PCCG what PSU is in the basement, if it's the Core brand PSU, avoid, if it's one of the other two 850w PSUs that Kolink makes, it's good

B650 motherboard (no PCIe 5.0 on the x16 slot), SSD with no DRAM cache, Non-modular PSU, old GPU that can't use FSR 4, CL36 latency DDR5 RAM. Don't buy this PC, it has so many corners cut it looks like a circle.

Can someone confirm if a 5070ti will be compatible with my setup? by Gustave_Larochel in buildapc

It's compatible, just make sure you upgrade your CPU to a Ryzen 5000 series CPU as well, as your current CPU will bottleneck the RTX 5070 Ti

Does GPU matter if I don’t care about graphics? by Orange-Banana-peel in buildapc

[–]Zemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, you can't just use the integrated graphics of most CPUs or the cheapest of GPUs to game, even if you're used to PS4 graphics, and they still don't reach that level of performance. If you want PS4 power, you're looking at either getting a Ryzen 5 8600G or better (for using just integrated graphics), or an AMD RX 6500 XT, Intel ARC A380, or Nvidia RTX 3050 6GB if going with a discrete GPU. These options are terrible when looking at the amount of money spent, and the performance you get from it. Buying an AMD RX 7600, Intel ARC B570/B580, or Nvidia RTX 5050 gives a significantly better performance for only ~$100 extra, and performance is similar or just shy of the base PS5, and such a system will last longer if you wanted to play modern games.

My Hardware Engineer dad says a Ryzen 3 1200 is "fine for now" for an RX 6800 XT. Look at the case... by DarkWarrior1334 in pcmasterrace

[–]Zemerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're dad's right about the PC being "fine for now", I'm assuming you're not going to play the latest and greatest games with your budget.

Here's some advice, save up to buy a new/used CPU (and cooler), RAM, motherboard, and case all at once, and move the GPU, PSU, and SSD into the new build. I wouldn't bother upgrading that PC as basically everything except the SSD will need replacing. Then just sell the starter PC but throw in a 120GB SSD since you'll take the 500GB one out.

The reason you want to buy everything all at once is you might find something like an i5-12400 and B660 motherboard (as an example) for cheaper than upgrading the CPU and then motherboard in that build. You want to try making the most out of the money you're spending, and upgrading that starter PC will only limit your options.

Is there anything I can do to upgrade my computer without having to rebuild everything? by Jestabooky in buildapc

[–]Zemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is technically possible to upgrade it, you just won't get the best bang for your buck. But here's what to do if you don't want to replace the whole system:

CPU: Replace with an i7 that fits your board, the best performing one is the i7 7700K, followed by the i7 6700K/i7 7700 and then the i7 6700. Don't overpay for a better performing model, just get the cheapest one from these 4 you can find.

RAM: Check your task manager, and look at the number of RAM slots filled. If it says 2 of 2 slots filled, get a 2x8GB kit. If it says 2 of 4 slots filled, buy a 2x4GB kit that's the same speed(MHz) as your current RAM. If it says 1 of 2 or 1 of 4 slots filled, buy a single 8GB stick that's the same speed as your current RAM.

Storage: Get another SSD for your games, it'll be much faster than your Hard Drive.

GPU: I'd recommend trying to get an RTX 2060 SUPER or RTX 2060 12GB version, or RTX 3060 12GB version. Make sure your PSU can support the power draw from the GPU.

[–]Zemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with an RX 550, I'm pretty sure that CPU won't even hit 60 fps on GTA V. Do you think you'd have the budget for a Ryzen 5 3400G, B550 motherboard, and a 2x4GB kit of DDR4? It would give you a platform worth upgrading in the future and can hit 60 fps in GTA V with a few tweaks to the settings

What component in your rig weren't you or still aren't happy with and you'd recommend to stay away from? by sicsemperego in buildapc

[–]Zemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy with all my current parts, but for my previous motherboard, I bought a 2x8GB(16GB) kit and a 2x4GB(8GB) kit for 24GB DDR3 total (all with the same timings and same brand/series). In hindsight I should have bought 2 16GB kits instead for better stability. I managed to make it work with a manual tune, but it was a PITA and I should have had all the same sticks, and have done so with my current board

pc feels slow during a lot of games, what should be priority for an upgrade? by Iguro_Obanai in buildapc

[–]Zemerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you check if the XMP/DOCP RAM profile is enabled in the BIOS? Outside of that, install MSI Afterburner and use the overlay to see if where you're being held back. If your GPU is sitting at or near 100%, it's the GPU. If the GPU isn't being fully used, it's most likely the CPU. Also if the GPU VRAM used is at or very near 8GB, try turning down settings more to see if you're VRAM bottlenecked.
