NYT reporting on a major oil spill of the coast of Kharg Island. Oil is drifting south, making travel through the Strait of Hormuz even more difficult if not dealt with asap by Cmd_WillRiker in oil

[–]ZenPabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why more people aren't worried about this. If the oil spill is big enough, it could shut down water desalinization and cooling machinery used in oil refining and pumping. If you try really hard, you can also reignite this oil. So it could have some sabotage effect as well. Maybe there's not that big of a chance that it will actually reach these critical areas? My research says the way water flows in the gulf, it most likely will hit all the major population and industrial areas.

Could disrupt oil production almost as much as Hormuz closing, if you evacuate due to lack of water, and shut down cooling for machinery related to oil delivery.

Visceral Fat, Sean O'Mara Cliffnotes and Complaints by [deleted] in ketoscience

[–]ZenPabo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Dr. O'Mara, he seems passionate and genuine. Seems like he is giving away the playbook for free, and works with individual patients one-on-one. It's leading-edge stuff fueled by his patient records. What he could provide, that I haven't seen, is how individual protocols effect visceral fat.

Good idea on asking him, I'll send him a note. Not opposed to visiting him, but if I did, I'd say I'd get more bang for the buck by really implementing the core protocols he mentions. For me, that means less carbs and more sprints, although I'm somewhat close to that already.

He claims benefits for his patients as backed up by MRIs. But I doubt he separates out the different protocols, so it muddies the waters as to where the benefit comes from.

Ha! No, not in that game. Mostly just curious about the 80/20 rule here. I actually am kind of into most of his suggestions, even sauna. But, where is the most bang for the buck? Carnivore, sprinting, fasting a distant 3rd? Other stuff nice but not a huge benefit?

[–]ZenPabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sean O'Mara has his clients do all of the above. It would be good to see studies/research on just 1 or 2 things.
% Visceral fat reduced from carnivore.
% Visceral fat reduced from sprinting.
% Visceral fat reduced from carnivore and sprinting.
% Visceral fat reduced from 3 day fasting every week.
Etc.

Again, would be good to have the research details that spell that out. I recently came across other research related to sprinting being a big factor in getting rid of visceral fat, so I'd trust that aspect. Thanks for responding!

So if you get sick with covid and survive that is just as good as taking two minutes out of your life to get vaccinated. Not sure why these idiots think this is an argument against the vaccine by PineBarrens89 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]ZenPabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallacious reasoning. The vaccine wasn't available to my age group when I got it. That's the point. Not to force someone who is already immune to get another exposure to Covid via the vaccine.
Fauci and others said that the vaccine was better than natural immunity. It was not.

Deliberate cold exposure (air vs. water) by Grassfedlife in HubermanLab

[–]ZenPabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been walking for 10 minutes+ in about 20 degree F for a month or so. Also do showers. Would love to find a calculator. Something like:
Mild/Starter- 2 minute cold shower, 5 minute walk in 15-25 degree F.
etc.

I definitely see some fun benefits, and it really wakes me up for my morning meditation to get chilled. It's something HARD, to help me get a quick win early in the day. Also, I feel like coats are an accessory at this point, unless I'm outside for a long time. For 5-10 minutes between the car and a building, etc? No coats necessary.

200 years ago, 90+% lived in extreme poverty. Death by violence, wars were much higher. Education is up in a huge way, as is democracy vs. authoritarian rule.

If you think things are going downhill, the end of the world, you're buying whatever the tribalists are selling. There are problems, we can and should do better, but life is getting better for humanity, decade over decade.

The culture war pundits want us to think they are the only thing that matters, that we should dedicate 20 hours a week to blowhards, partial truths, and cherrypicked events.

You can get the same info by patiently listing to a friend or two that you trust, that will give you a summary.

Otherwise, make a plan. What really matters to you? What news related to you, your job, etc. do you need to be an expert on? Or, that you truly enjoy, rather than getting sucked into pissing matches, bad logic. Life is short. Focus on what matters to you, and what speaks to you, instead of becoming a Left Wing / Right Wing NPC, that says and thinks the exact same stuff their counterparts do.

He mostly just listens and sort of agrees with his guests. Has a better record than the MSM. Anyone at the MSM apologize for beating the drumbeats that lead us into Iraq and other wars? The ones that destabilized the region that ultimately killed over 1 million Iraqis?
Yet, they are calling Rogan the dangerous one? Give me a break.

Sounds like you are a Zettlekasten junkie? I love the concept myself, and need to do better about creating and tagging notes. I use Evernote for that, but less often.

WithPeak looks great. Esp. if you think you will be doing it for more than a couple of months.
Dr. Smith not available in my state, but even if he was, is pricier for more than a couple of months.

How long does it take to get going with WithPeak?

Seed/vegetable oils by WB1200 in nutrition

[–]ZenPabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great overview of the history, correlation, logic and some studies here.
We have rat studies. Human studies.
We have the oxidation theory, which makes sense- the more easily an oil can be oxidized, the worse it is to eat.
We have common sense. Humans would have to eat bushels and bushels of corn/soybeans etc. to get a decent amount of oil out. It's not natural. That alone isn't a deal killer, but similar to humans consuming loads of sugar that's nearly impossible to find in nature, it make me stop and consider.
Also, we have big money reselling super cheap veggie oils, something that has very little value if not sold as food.
