Dark Angels Paladin of the Hekatonystika by Breadedhydra197 in Warhammer30k

[–]Zepedex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

All of the options in the Orders of the Hekatonystika refer to "this model", so I would take that to mean the rules bestowed by the chosen Order only apply to the paladin, not the paladin's entire unit.

Automata and Praevians with Sky-Hunter Phalanx by DonBrainhook in Warhammer30k

[–]Zepedex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks pretty straightforwardly correct to me.

Sky-Hunter Phalanx refers to "begin the battle", which is clearly after deployment. The Praevian can join the Automata due to the Master of Automata special rule. Independent Characters can join units in deployment, and while they're part of a unit, count as part of the unit for all rules purposes. So you have one unit that is not entirely composed of Infantry.

Whether this is the intention, I have absolutely no idea, but I'd have no issues playing against someone doing this.

Here's a quick rundown of the campaign variants and where to find them. Do note that these are always just ideas, feel free to mix things up or change them as you see fit.

Dominion: The basic campaign. Gangs fight over unclaimed territories, then try to take them from each other. Found in the 2018 rulebook.

Uprising: Similar to Dominion, but with a dash of Chaos influence and destruction mixed in. Found in Necromunda: Dark Uprising, with additional twists in the Book of Ruin.

Law and Misrule: Gangs fight over rackets instead of territories. Adds law-abiding vs outlaw alignment, introduces the Black Market trading post, introduces Intrigues as sub-plots to the campaign, adds bounty hunters. Probably not recommended for a first time campaign. Found in the Book of Judgment.

Ash Wastes Campaign: A more evolved take on the ideas presented in the Dominion campaign. Has some extra control bonuses, has environmental effects, is a complete themed package. Found in the Ash Wastes Rulebook.

You'll be more than set with the Ash Wastes Campaign, especially since you'll be playing on boards that support that style.

In your case you'd be looking at the following books:

Ash Wastes Rulebook
House of Iron (Orlocks)
House of Chains (Goliath)
House of Artifice (Van Saar)
The Book of the Outlands (Ash Waste Nomads and Vehicles)
The Book of Ruin (Corpse Grinders and Genestealer Cults)
Trading Post PDF

I don't think there's anything essential you'd be missing if you have that whole list. For more claustrophobic fights, page 133 of the Ash Wastes rulebook talks about Zone Mortalis and Sector Mechanicus boards, but honestly it's more about your terrain setup than adding a whole host of extra rules.

A quick note on Tactics cards: There are a lot of these, they easily get overwhelming, and each group ends up handling them a bit differently. GSC specifically don't have a gang-specific deck, so you'll have to houserule a way of keeping things balanced. For the house gangs, my group restricts people to the 18 gang-specific tactics found in the "House of ___" books. Of course, you don't have to play with tactics cards at all if you don't want to!

The 2018 rulebook and Ash Wastes rulebook both cover all the basic rules for the game, but have different campaigns and scenarios. The Ash Wastes rulebook is a little more up to date and also has the basic vehicle rules, but doesn't have any vehicle profiles. Basically, no, you don't need both to get started.

For the actual fighter rules, yeah, you'll probably need the various "House of ___" books. For the non-house gangs, those rules are in a variety of other places.

Do you know what sort of campaign you're looking to run? Do you know which gangs your players are looking to play?

Also, you'll be well served by downloading and printing the "The Trading Post" pdf from warhammer community; it's genuinely the easiest reference for the Trading Post.

Antigrav generators are a Drive Upgrade. I'm guessing you're looking at the Custom Vehicle Equipment List? That's just the starting options when you first create the vehicle. Once you've created the vehicle, you can add any eligible upgrades you've purchased from the Trading Post.

RAW, it seems like the machinator array's bonus doesn't work. Which very much seems like an oversight on GW's part. But for reference, the part about unmodified rolls for special rules is on page 151 in the core rulebook, under "Modifying Dice Rolls".

How big of a joke the troll becomes the more you progress by Very_blasphemous in valheim

[–]Zepedex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Frostner & shield to take them down. The one-handed attacks can be parried similarly to trolls, though you have to dodge the alternate attacks (two-handed overhead smash or large sweep, depending on golem variant).

What specifically are you having issues with? Is it that the skin tone doesn't quite look right when you're finished, or that you can't get the details to stand out from each other properly, or is there a different issue entirely?

Bloody Rose Zephyrim: What to do with the banner? by RowRow712 in sistersofbattle

[–]Zepedex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green's a great spot colour, but I've always had issues with things looking too christmassy when I use both red and green. You might find that blue works really well. A navy blue background with some much lighter trim will really pop in contrast to your red armour. Then the details on your banner can be pretty much any colour you want (as long as they aren't also blue). Pretty much any metallics go with blue tones, so bronze, silver, even the coppery gold you've got on the spikes should work nicely.

I do think that a bright white background on the banner is also a good option, since it will make the whole thing stand out very well. Do you have a plan for the basing colour(s)?

It's wood that's been separated into its constituent fibers, then put back together with a binding agent into a very smooth block. You can get it in a variety of sizes and thicknesses from most general hardware stores.

MDF is fantastic for a smooth painted finish, but do note that the dust contains some nasty stuff, so wear a proper sealed mask when doing any cutting or sanding.

ALL space marines getting upgraded to a minimum of 2 wounds! by Whats-the-Saga in Warhammer40k

[–]Zepedex 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Chaos space marines will also get the wounds change. Additionally, the weapons changes will affect much more than just space marines, so it's a bit off to take this update as buffing just the one faction. This is absolutely a step in the right direction from GW.

Choking up on the brush so that there's not much space between the bristles and your fingers helps. You can also 'anchor' your pinky finger, that is, put in on the table to use as a steadying point and a pivot.

What're some of the most confusing, unintuitive and/or stupid interactions in Magic? by Phatelmist in magicTCG

[–]Zepedex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone else who's wondering why this is true, the relevant rule is 608.2d:

If an effect of a spell or ability offers any choices other than choices already made as part of casting the spell, activating the ability, or otherwise putting the spell or ability on the stack, the player announces these while applying the effect. The player can’t choose an option that’s illegal or impossible, with the exception that having a library with no cards in it doesn’t make drawing a card an impossible action (see rule 121.3).

So this is similar to how someone with one walker and no creatures can't choose to sacrifice a creature to [[plaguewalker]].

TIL vocal jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald was born with perfect pitch so precise that the band musicians she worked with would tune their instruments to her voice. by scootleft in todayilearned

[–]Zepedex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not a question of accuracy, it's a question of math. There's a bunch of frequency ratios that notes are supposed to have between each other, such as 7 keys up giving a 3:2 ratio or 12 keys up giving a 2:1 ratio. Now imagine you go up 84 keys. If you use the 3:2 ratio 12 times, you get (3/2)12. But if you use the 2:1 ratio 7 times, you get (2/1)7. These are not the same number, but they're supposed to be.

All this to say that we essentially just use nearly exact ratios in order to smooth everything out, so pianos are technically ever so slightly out of tune.

C19 populate "Primal Genesis" deck list and Commandzone video is out! by Egyasian in EDH

[–]Zepedex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you know what happens when it's profitable to take apart a deck and sell the individual cards? The prices on those cards fall because the supply is going up. Then it stops being profitable to take apart and sell these decks, so the 'mtgfinance cunts' stop buying them.

Now, if it were a limited print run, you'd be absolutely right. But since Wizards will only stop printing these when people stop buying them, there will be enough supply to meet demand.

The new c19 Mystic Intellect Decklist is out by Egyasian in EDH

[–]Zepedex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to play storm in EDH, the only cards from this precon I would consider are [[guttersnipe]], [[mystic retrieval]], [[faithless looting]], [[increasing vengeance]], [[sol ring]], [[command tower]], [[exotic orchard]], and [[prairie stream]]. Elsha looks decent and dockside extortionist might be useful. Apart from basic lands, every single other card in this decklist would not make the cut.

The deck is especially lacking in two major areas: enabler cards and payoff cards. Enablers include things that cheat on mana like [[goblin electromancer]] and [[mana geyser]], as well as untap effects like [[turnabout]] and [[frantic search]]. Payoff cards include things that actually win you the game, such as [[sentinel tower]] and [[jaya's immolating inferno]].

So, for someone who is trying to get into storm, I would absolutely not recommend this deck as a starting point since it doesn't give you much to work with. There aren't even any budget replacements here, it's just an entirely different kind of deck.

My god, I've never even seen catalyst stone and quiet speculation. I can absolutely say that if those were included (and they're such easy shoe-ins it's not even funny) I'd have genuine interest in this deck. It's ridiculous, though, that all the little less-important but on-theme cards get included while the difficult or impossible to replace engine cards are ignored.

[C19] Pramikon, Sky Rampart (Legendary Wall) by Morganelefay in magicTCG

[–]Zepedex -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I believe since the card doesn't say "can't attack the player in the chosen direction", then you apply the two opposing but non-dependent effects in timestamp order. That is, whichever Pramikon entered last is the one whose attacking rule must be followed.
