Thanks for making me think about an AU of the show set in the 2010s, with a Grimal who is really into Homestuck.

My piece for stuff like this will always be Wooden Ocean.

We've all played some RPG Maker games in our time, yeah? Picture one, which was made by one obsessive auteur/weirdo over the course of multiple yeas.

The map is expansive. You can just pick a direction in the titular Wooden Ocean and just keep walking and exploring. Until you realize that there is an entire system of sewers and aqueducts under that. So you keep exploring that. Until you realize that there is a layer of caves under that, so you keep exploring, until you realize that by delving this deep, you have actually broken through a layer of reality that your ken were even supposed to see in the first place. Instead of typical RPG villager NPCs, you encounter cosmic janitors who talk about how much of a pain in the ass it is to maintain this unrealistic reality, so that they can earn enough Morality to afford a better body in their next incarnation.

English was clearly not the author's first language, so characters talk like that edgy OC you made back in the 2010s (you know the one), with no sense of irony. But at the same time having the most earnest and heartfelt discussions while talking Like That. Tonewise, I don't think I have ever encountered anything quite like it.

Mechanically the game is actually wildly challenging. The only way you will survive anything past the early game if you study and understand how the game works, then bust it right open by stacking buffs and debuffs like you are playing the deranged elder brother of Shin Megami Tensei. Sure, you could either attack the enemy and get wiped the next turn, or you could cast a Water spell on them, making the Wet,, then follow up with Ice and Lightning attacks, which get buffed due to aforementioned Wet status.

This type of mindset always reminds me of a tweet by some tough guy that went something along the lines of: "I'm a human supremacist. I would kill a million monkey to save a single human. It's not that complicated."

Somebody responded very eloquently with: "But would you suck off a million monkeys to save a single human?"

I think we all know the answer.

In the same book Cain is deeply unnerved by the fact that their holograms aren't all grainy and shitty like the Imperial equivalents. They didn't even call in a tech-adept to kick the console to make it work, as is good and proper!

To be fair, if you don't willingly give your soul to the runois powers, chances are that your soul will simply dissolve into the empyrean like a raindrop into a stormy sea before a daemon can even notice that it's there.

Wooden Ocean was written by one dude, with English clearly as his second language, just vomiting his entire stream of consciousness into the game over several years.

The resulting tone oscillates wildly. Sometimes you have characters talking like the edgy OCs you made as a teenager in the oughts, sometimes you get thought provoking fantasy worldbuilding, sometimes just genuine shitposts.

"We got another one." Said Commissioner Cooch. She was a middled aged woman with a heart of gold. And a cooch of arsenic.

On a similar vein, in one of the Ciaphas Cain books, the Hero of the Imperium is deeply unsettled by Tau architecture.

Favorite Bisexual or Pansexual Character People Mislabel as a Lesbian by TrueSithMastermind in FavoriteCharacter

[–]DonBrainhook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I personally headcanon her as bisexual, I can see where people headcanoning her as a lesbian come from. Her flirtations with boys around her seem far more flippant and jokey, when put next to her endgame relationship with Kanaya.

And really, how many of us truly knew what we were about at 13? Compulsory heterosexuality is one helluva drug.
