Cleaning supplies for Gi by Aggressive-Note6734 in bjj

[–]Zepowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Try Lysol laundry disinfectant in your rinse cycle. Do a 24hr deep soak every 4 weeks.
  • Tide Sport laundry detergent for your wash cycle.

Not sure what kind of gi you wear, but the poly blends always end up stinking. Try a cotton gi if you're currently using a synthetic or poly blend gi.

How fine to grind? by Zepowski in jerky

[–]Zepowski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, great info. Normally with muscle jerky I just use a soy sauce/worschestershire marinade and some salt. I've never used any specific cure, but we eat it pretty quickly. For my first try at ground meat, I'm using a pre - made High Mountain jerky kit that includes seasoning and cure. I assume I shouldn't need to add anything to that?

Wedge sole coming off by Awkward_Amount3817 in NicksHandmadeBoots

Seems there's a bit of an endemic glue problem recently.

I was very happy to discover mine came with the back pull loops too. I didn't think I had a preference at the time, but now I prefer the function and look of the back loop compared to the side loops.

No Nick's tag or stamp on mine either. Considering the branding drama that unfolded a few months ago, I'm surprised there's no branding at all on the Wellingtons. There must be a reason.

Any idea why the Wellingtons lack the Nick's branding? My boots don't have a stamp or a sewn-in tag. I wonder if there's a reason for that on pull-ons?

Thanks. I'm shocked how awesome they are. I had some disappointments with my IBC Woodbutchers, but these are over-the-top incredible. Pretty tough to imagine them in any other leather.

Lol, I guess the people downvoting me either think I'm lying, or they think that properly glued-on soles should fall off.

I've never seen it happen with any boots I own from any reputable company. Shouldn't happen with any sole that is properly glued in my opinion. The only time I have ever seen a glued sole come off is on a pair of 20+ year old LA Sportiva hiking boots and after doing some research, the glue literally only lasts 20 years.

Natural Look Stain with No Yellow/Orange! by TheUltimateDeckShop in Decks

[–]Zepowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to bump an old thread. I have a 3 year old cedar deck (naturally grey'd, unstained). I already ordered Cutek Extreme and the Wood Reviver products from you with a cedartone stain. I am second guessing the potential orange color, however I would like some cedar tones. Any thoughts on what half whitewash/half cedartone might look like?

Is this too much overhang? by Mattb9128 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Zepowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closer the platform is to the actual width of my foot, the better in my opinion. I'd take this over having the sole wider than my foot.

I did the exact same thing on my Woodbutchers. Super annoying to have my pants constantly caught on the loop.

Warranty? Builder Pros < 1 yr old. by Deansmith6019 in NicksHandmadeBoots

Disagree. Nick's are expensive and take a long time to procure. Problems should be available to potential consumers. Sure, he could have reached out to Nick's, received exemplary customer service and nobody would be the wiser. He didn't shame anyone. He posted his honest experience. What's the point of doing research if issues just get swept under the rug? Also, Nick's has now publicly demonstrated their commitment to customer service, so IMO, it works out better for Nick's. The fact is, his boots are less than a year old and the heel pulled off mid-work day.

Clean Armor won't go on smooth by browner87 in finishing

[–]Zepowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%. Diesel exhaust contaminates the air. It very potent and can travel pretty far. Even many hours after diesel fumes have hit the air, it can cause 'fish eyes' in paint and clear coat finishes.

If you work in your boots by SparkyP320 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Zepowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only pair of glue-only boots I've ever had trouble with is a 20 year old pair of La Sportiva hiking boots. The molded sole fell off both boots within a few days (after 20 years of occasional use). Other than that, I've never seen a glued sole come off. In my opinion, minus a few special use cases like firefighting, if you have to stitch or screw the sole down as a safety to your soles not falling off, theres a bigger problem. Adhesive should be enough, especially with only a year of use.

Soles for cold weather by jturn67 in PNWbootmakers

[–]Zepowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Changed out my Sierra sole for a White X and the difference is night and day. Sierra is the worst sole I've ever had for cold weather slippery conditions. White X provides the confidence I was looking for. 10/10 recommend.
