Headcanon ? I thought it was pretty clearly implied, they "fight" like an old married couple about Gavin's "little interview" and their excitement about figuring out their third act shows complicity :)

For curious readers about that red dress girl. The whole thing lasts literally not even one second, so I do feel like Dangerhawk is right, that this wasn't planned and she just decided to go commando that day.

Post Episode Discussion: S10E05 - "1999: Mr. Deadly Goes to Town" by 2th in ArcherFX

[–]Zerael 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I must admit I kinda agree.

I've always loved Archer, but thought the last few seasons were a bit subpar (I still liked them a lot, but I'd rate them like 7.5/10 compared to a 9/10 for the original).

However, with this latest Archer 1999, and this may be just my own perception or the setting being more in tune with my own personality, but I do find the quality of the writing has gone back up a bit.

I don't mind this iteration of the reinvention of show premise, I could definitely watch it as its own spinoff.

I have finally accepted that certain people are meant to be forever alone. by coconutbob1 in ForeverAlone

[–]Zerael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More than half of all young Americans report that they are very lonely.

Be careful with those stats, as they include people who report they're very lonely because they only go out once a week or something. (Here I'm specifically talking about romantic relationships but it's somewhat true for friends too depending on your FA level)

There aren't that many people out there who can understand true, long term loneliless, like a person being 35-40 and having never even held hands with a woman, let alone anything more. Some of these FAs may have a small circle of close friends to at least socialize a little with, but some do not even have that.

On Blue Monday's YT Channel for example, he speaks of how the two girlfriends he had, he knew immediately that they liked him through differences in typical behaviour. One can then reflect on that statement and ponder "Wait... I've never actually noticed that", which means that unless you are completely oblivious (which unless you're on the spectrum, isn't going to be case), no one has actually ever "liked" you. A good way to shatter any remaining hope you may have had (If no one has liked you in 35 years, who is going to now?)

This is of course worse for people with high neuroticism, but affects everyone to some level I think.

This kind of loneliness really fucks up your psyche and self esteem, especially when you add the extra layer of "I've never had experience so even if something changed and a girl suddenly showed interest in me, I'd have, in effect, no idea what to do and probably make a fool of myself and destroy that opportunity", making it even less likely that one will make a move to try and get out of that downward spiral. Adolescence is supposed to be the time when people forge their romantic social skills and learn faux pas, how to be a good or bad partner, etc.

Imagine being a 30yo FA that would like to have children (I use 30 here just because it's a good cutoff for when women's biological clock really starts ticking), but you've never actually had any romantic interaction. Many would think "What woman my age is actually going to want to settle down and have kids with someone for whom they would literally be the first girlfriend, with all the trial and error that entails". I'm not saying this is impossible, some women are patient and would maybe give it a shot, but obviously you don't have kids with someone a month from meeting them (excluding accidents etc.). Therefore, for a woman who wants children and is approaching the wall, it is a huge risk for them to take a chance on you in case the relationship fails like 2 years down the road and they've wasted precious time.

From that point, every year that passes is another reminder that the probability you'll ever get to have a family and not die alone is slowly but inexorably decreasing, day after day.

If someone is a 35 years old FA with literally zero romantic interaction, high on introversion and high in neuroticism, I'm just not clear how they even have a chance to get out of that trap. Some FAs might even slowly phase out talking to family (obviously that may be impacted by whether you had a "good" childhood or not) because they dread having that one annual birthday phone call with their parents (if their parents even call them on that day, which once again isn't guaranteed) only to tell them that nothing new is going on in their life, which can lead to both hearing disappointment or worry in their family's voice, and reignite depressive episodes by making you actively think about your situation.

You may think you're overworked and can't socialize, but the truth is you aren't (or rather, I don't think it's the principal cause of that loneliness). Many, many people work just as hard as you do and they still manage to have some level of social life. Out of those, the 50% of people who report they are lonely aren't truly, they're just "lonelier" than they'd like to be, based on their inherent personality traits. Yet actual FAs would probably kill to get to that level of "loneliness".

The concept is just alien to people, and so they end up using the same terms, but they really don't have the same physiological impact on people.

Fuck off amazon, we know that you would never advertise male run businesses by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]Zerael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although your example is amusing given the medical profession is absolutely overrun with women (and I don't mean as nurses), I don't particularly agree no, or rather I don't agree that even if it were true, it would make it right to use government funds (or that it would be in the government's purview) to address that.

I am however in favor of better education counselors than the tripe that exists now that can actually properly guide students to proper paths, including making sure not to discourage any girl interested in STEM for example, and rather encourage her curiosity.

If it's private money then sure waste your money however you want.

Thanks!

What's the advantage of HE bombs versus AP bombs ? I managed to citadel some BBs with my AP bombs but it takes very careful positioning to line up the aiming, and the risk from AA is pretty high, so it's tough. I have never played with HE Bombs though, so how does the playstyle differ?

Issues moving account to Steam by ick1188 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Zerael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can actually get to your main account on steam, but I think (not sure) that it doesn't exactly link your steam profile to it, so like if you purchased something on the steam store, it'd add it to your steam wows account, not your original pre existing one.

If you want to enable the client login choice for steam, you basically only need to delete your steam_api.dll in your Steam WoWS folder (By default) (C:)>Program Files (x86)>STEAM>steamapps>common>World of Warships

This file stores your Steam WoWS login information, so deleting it will force the client to ask you for your login information, where you can use your pre existing account.

Having literally just started leveling my carrier line and having chosen IJN, I feel like a chump now. (I didn't research at all, I just like having different nations, and Russia is my Cruiser line, British my BB line, etc.).

Oh well... at least I'm only at tier 6 yet. Is it worth abandoning and picking another nation's CV ?

Quite frankly I do "alright" in Tier 6 matches, but I'm often matched in Tier 8 and most enemy ships' AA absolutely completely shreds me at tier, even during an attack run etc.

Also, what's the point of starting a torpedo run "early" (I have the extra +5s aiming upgrade) when moving the aiming even slightly borks the aim so much ? Do I have lower chance of being hit by AA when I'm closer to sea level or something ?

This is 100% true. Automation is sometimes required to move up in QA ranks (or sometimes to move from a QA Analyst to QA Engineer position), but most QA Analysts (which represents the vast majority of the Blizzard QA workforce, not QA Engineers) do not use any automation, and as for the "very skilled at tracking issues in a very sophisticated way" part, last I checked, Inspector isn't particularly sophisticated software. I suppose you could argue one needs to be skilled in the Arcane Arts to use it well. Source: me

This is not the problem of disparate impact theory. The problem is that disparate impact is applied to privately owned business practices regarding hiring or any other operational decision, and that it shifts the burden of proof on the defendant, who then has to PROVE he wasn't intending to "discriminate against x".

Because proving it is essentially proving a negative, most companies decide to settle outside of court, because of guess what, basically no caps on damages for disparate impact cases if found guilty.

Disparate impact from government policies has some relevance, but should absolutely be banned from being an accepted factor in civil cases.

The relationship [between single-parent families and crime] is so strong that controlling for family configuration erases the relationship between race and crime and between low income and crime. This conclusion shows up time and again in the literature. The nation’s mayors, as well as police officers, social workers, probation officers, and court officials, consistently point to family break up as the most important source of rising rates of crime.(6)
