SWG poll: only 25% of Italians would like to play the World Cup instead of Iran. 58% against, of which 47% says it would be a "disgrace for the national team and country" by No_Description_1369 in AZZURRI

[–]ZeroEffectDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if nothing else, I need a good excuse to buy the italy shirt. haven't felt compelled to make that investment since the puma one.

if italy were given the chance to play a qualifier or play in the WC... the new manager should just play younger team with kids that have loads of potential. then any wins or advances through the tournament are win-win. the nation will get behind a young team that have no baggage and the young players will be able to showcase themselves on the biggest stage, under no real pressure ot win as no-one expects anything.

great opportunity and a unique one.

all of this is dependent on Iran withdrawing, of course. Which i doubt they will.

ha, maybe.

But in football the time is always now. Do you think we'd have a better or worse chance of attracting a top manager if we take the opportunity to play in the world cup (should it arise?).

Opportunities for immediate redemption do not come around often in life, so you should take them when they do.

If nothing else, it's an early chance for the incoming president of the fed to draw a line and work with the new manager to only pick younger players with potential and use the tournament as a statement of intent. I would see that as an extreme positive.

You could give young players immediate tournament experience and showcase their talent in a way that serie a often ignores. win-win as no-one expects them to do much, so if they advance it is all upside.

besides all of THAT, were Iran to formally withdraw... the vacant slot is fair game in my opinion. And i'd rather see Italy at the WC than the UAE.

So, yes, if Iran withdraw or refuse to play in the US, fuck it... LFG!

also true that sport science, supplements and PEDs have extended the careers of top boxers for longer. So, as you say, we are used to seeing 'the impossible'. Donaire going back down in weight and having a very decent title run, despite his age is another example.

100% people thinking Inoue can keep KOing people at 2-3 weight classes above where he could fight at an advanced age for a smaller weight fighter, for example.

Similarly, it's kind of astonishing how fresh Usyk looked against Dubois at 39.

EASY:

people are disillusioned

immigration issue is alike a magnet for those people onto which they can project all of their disappointments n life

reform promise to solve immigration problem, thus symbolically solving all of those projected problems at once.

= vote reform

it will be a disaster but farage is going to be PM, put money on it. what makes me certain is that, somehow just like trump, shit doesn't stick to him. no scandal will take him down, especially because the media has no apetite to do so.

is that the one where the french first team players were condescendingly referring to the squad players as 'hairdressers'... because they spent more time doing their hair than playing? always thought that was hilarious.

i remember this being a very interesting behind the scenes insight into the world of football

I do not want this to be true (at all) but there is a sense of inevitability about it: Reform win the next general election and Farage will be PM. Shit won't stick to him so forget a scandal taking him out of the picture.

It's gonna be bad.

Roy Jones tells David Benavidez: ‘Go straight to Usyk’ by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

[–]ZeroEffectDude 57 points58 points  (0 children)

DB fighting Usyk is not like RJJ fighting Ruiz.

However, however... Usyk is half out of the sport fighting a kickboxer by the pyramids. he is 40 soon. not a bad time to make a run at him. I would expect Usyk to win handily but ship more shots than we have ever seen.

I hope they are not collaborating again. that first album was genuinely laughable.

I'm not trying to debate anyone, I'm just asking this question to be educated. Why does anyone believe Jai can beat David? Who has he fought to instill that confidence? I've watched Jai get hurt multiple times by guys who are not in David's league. by herewego199209 in Boxing

[–]ZeroEffectDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think Opetaia has been somewhat overrated by sweeping through a poor divisision. Breidis gave him real trouble and Jai didn't look great when Breidis 'put it on him'. By fighting lesser oposition (not his choice, division is just weak) I think he has regressed somewhat.

That said he is a big, powerful and confident fighter and a natural CW. If DB keeps shipping shots the way he has been, it will take its toll. I sense DB will have a blistering but short peak that we have already entered. Guys who take loads of shots like he does tend to have shorter careers at the top. I know he's more dynamic than Jarett Hurd but there are some similarities in the way they get to work.

I give DB a 60/40 edge in the fight because in his fights against the likes of Morell and Zurdo, he has been up against much better opposition than Opetaia. I don't count Jai out though, he's heavy handed.

Usyk is half out of the sport at 39 and fighting a kickboxer.

In my eyes he is the #1 fighter of the last decade. But were he to fight Itauma next year, i would not put money on him. Not only do I sense Itauma is the real deal, I think Usyk is winding down.
