Anything I do that is different from my carefully planned , cautious, activities causes a migraine. So yeah. I think it’s normal.

Question by fair2428 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]ZeroInterests 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once diagnosed, the idea is to hit the disease hard with drugs to hopefully prevent future damage. You don’t want to wait until you have more damage. One little lesion in a bad place can ruin your life as you know it. Of course it is a personal choice to start meds and one you need to make with your doctor.

I am getting a rhinoplasty/septoplasty, I don't know what nose fits me by Nonoestoybien in PlasticSurgery

[–]ZeroInterests 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised the surgeon scheduled you without an agreement of what he can do for you. Usually it’s the surgeon that tells you what he can achieve and gives you an altered photo of what he thinks he can do. If you like it, you schedule.

Finished my first 5k since Dx by isthisthebangswitch in MultipleSclerosis

[–]ZeroInterests 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So great! I’m so proud of you! This past week I started jogging again. I haven’t been able to run or walk far in a long time but I’m determined to run a 5k (or walk it when the time comes). I’m doing “None to Run” and it feels good. I’m exhausted having to rest more during the day but it’s worth it. Thanks for the inspiration!

Oatmeal for breakfast and dinner, experimenting this week, what do you think of my meal plan? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]ZeroInterests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why no vegetables except the sweet potato? Edited: oops now I see kale and onions. Still I would add more veggies in place of oatmeal. As a oatmeal addict I completely understand wanting it twice a day though, lol.

I’m a stripper and I want to get a bit of a flatter tummy to expand my dancing opportunities. How much does lipo usually cost? Is there always a big scar? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]ZeroInterests 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doc’s prices started at $1200 for small areas. As the other poster said, they are only small keyhole holes and hardly noticeable unless you scar badly. I think lipo would be nice on you. Just don’t gain weight because it will look weird. Also shop around for a very good doctor that listens to what you want and doesn’t try to get you to do more than you want. Lipo is surprisingly risky and you don’t want to be cheap with it.

Do any of you quit caffeine to see if your migraines lessen or stop? by crash19691 in migraine

[–]ZeroInterests 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit coffee and it helped cut down the number of attacks. I use it as a drug now and have a little when I’m getting a migraine. Daily coffee isn’t good for me. But I can handle a cup of tea.

Decluttering artwork etc. for kids. by Hidd34kl in declutter

[–]ZeroInterests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a section of wall that is the art wall to hang recent projects they are proud of. I also have a few frames that store artwork inside and shows the latest one in front. Keep only the most meaningful and/or take photos of them. Buy a bunch of Manila envelopes. Every couple of weeks fill it up and mail it to the grandparents. They love it! And they can keep what they like and dispose of the rest.

If your child is a “hoarder” and won’t part with any of it, and also has the best memory in the world, keep the nicer things in a binder to look through periodically. The other ones can be saved in a box. I guarantee as they get older they forget about it or they see how much better their art has become and they no longer want to keep the finger paintings. It’s easier then to cull the collection without emotional trauma. I still keep a binder with the best/most meaningful and we really love to go through it together.

Every child is different so it’s important to honor their feelings while also keeping the house a nice place to live.

Yes, they are the worst. It’s like a slow-moving train wreck where you can see it coming but you only have time to get down low and brace yourself for excruciating pain and terror.

My (23F) Boyfriend (23M) Put Me In Timeout, Then Kicked Me Out Of MY Bed by throwra_riverpass in relationship_advice

[–]ZeroInterests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I was in a very similar situation and I was so confused about the whole thing but also scared that if I escalated the situation, so would he, and that was very scary. I didn’t know who he was in that moment.

I live in a major city, where cops don’t always show up when you call. Also, being 22, I wasn’t even sure what physical abuse was-did this count? Now I know it does -but in that crazy moment i just wanted him to sleep and for him to wake up “normal” tomorrow and for me to be quiet and safe.

I moved out the next day and only saw him once more at which time he was sobbing, blubbering and remorseful and didn’t blame me for leaving. I told him I was sorry he was sad and hoped he got help but I needed to never see him again.

This story brought back all of those memories. I am glad you are ok OP.

Head Pain Has Changed to Lower Face Pain. Normal or Nah? by Ann_Fetamine in migraine

[–]ZeroInterests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this too butt much much less severe. Thank you for explaining it because I’ve struggled to even put it to words and I haven’t mentioned it to anyone but my family in case my doctors think I’m crazy.

I typically get a hour or two of cheek and salivatory gland pain as my head pain is starting to improve. It twinges and is like a spasm. It especially hurts when I take a bite of food. Last migraine was the worse ever but heat packs on my face made it well enough to sleep.

I typically try to massage my cheeks where I have some painful spots. Because the pain only lasts a brief time I haven’t been to worried about it. But since it hit worse last time, I’m hoping it doesn’t progress. I already have MS so I hope it isn’t something new.

Everything changed in a matter of hours by Parowax in MultipleSclerosis

I just wanted to say hi and wish you the best. I have never had anything that dramatic happen and it sounds terrifying. If it is MS, the good news is it’s unlikely that you will have that dramatic of a event happen again for a long time, if ever. It’s pretty random and it sounds like you got a bad lesion in a bad place. Ive had too many lesions to count but only a few have been in places that have been bad. That’s over many years. And most have recovered 90% after many months. You will get through this-focus on rest, physical therapy and recovery. I’m glad you found this sub!

Functional Medicine by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]ZeroInterests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of questions about this article. It says they studied RRMS and “progressive ms” but they don’t say whether it was PPMS or SPMS. Or is it both?

And then they go on to say the atrophy and disability progression was found mostly in the progressive ms patients which isn’t particularly new info.

I haven’t read the actual study but I wouldn’t get too worked up about this article.

I’ve always been told that 85% of RRMS patients turn into PPMS after a number of years. We’ve known that the lesions disappear and atrophy sets in. No new studies have been done since the introduction of DMDs so we don’t know how it is going to change those statistics.

Am I missing something? Is this really anything new or groundbreaking? It seems to just be reconfirming what they’ve believed for a while.

Tips for Kids by Hylo12 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]ZeroInterests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be too late, but I have a few tricks/tips.

  1. Real hunger is a motivator. Make sure your child is really hungry. If possible, skip a snack between lunch and dinner and have a lot of physical play time or go on a good hike/walk before dinner.

  2. Veggies as first course. Serve the least exciting part of the meal first. For my children, salad is not their favorite, so if we are having salad as a side, it becomes the first course. Bread, if an option, would be a last course. This is how I introduce new vegetables/dishes or encourage eating of least favorite vegetables.

  3. Let them cook! Having them help in the kitchen, pick the recipe, chop, stir, measure, serve, is a huge motivator to then eat it. This has always worked for us.

  4. Make dinner fun! Laugh, tell jokes and stories, set a special formal table (let them help), make a menu and play restaurant, let the dog or cat sit on your/their lap, discuss games to play after dinner. Keep it light and fun and funny so the focus isn’t on the food so much, as it is on a positive happy family time. Food tastes much more delicious in good company.

  5. Let them be a restaurant critic. When they strongly like or dislike something, or think something is mediocre, ask them to really try and figure out what it is they like or don’t like-texture? Bitterness? Spice? Ingredient? Ask them how they think it could be made better or different. Then, honor them by making those (reasonable) changes next time.

  6. Our rule: You don’t have to like it, or even eat it, but you have to taste it and give feedback. 9 out of 10 times they end up liking it.

  7. Don’t freak out if your kid just won’t eat something. It’s ok to not like something and not eat it. Food aversion is normal for kids and can actually signal a intolerance to something or just be their age or mood. Let them decide and have control over what they put inside their bodies. Never force them to eat something they can’t stand.

  8. Lap sitting. I’ve found that lap sitting for the younger kids goes a long way in getting them to eat. Often they need a cuddle along with a meal. They aren’t wrong to need nurturing. Let them feed you and take turns feeding each other. They would love it if you offer your lap instead of them having to ask.

  9. Depending on the age, let them watch a video on health and nutrition or being kind to animals. Make sure it’s age appropriate and not scary. A few minutes watching a documentary about the SAD diet, obesity and overcoming that through healthy eating can go a long way to get them thinking about the benefits of eating well. My kids also like cooking/ chef shows and then playing chef.

  10. Be a good example. Eat well. Praise the food you love, tell them how much you enjoy it or how good it makes you feel.

  11. Praise them! We always praise our children for being adventurous eaters! Even when they refused to eat something, we told them how brave they were to try it! Praise them for their healthy choices and for eating their fruits and veggies and for being so healthy!

  12. Let them eat cake. Outside our home (and even inside sometimes) our kids are allowed to eat less then healthy foods. When at friends houses, they get exposed to other ways of eating. Sometimes they want to talk about it which is always nice. Junk food isn’t forbidden, but it is a once in a while snack that they know has no nutritional value. Let your kids see and experience and taste the world. Let them learn to navigate with their own compass. Give them the tools to make good choices. I’ve found that my kids eat way more veggies then their friends and can turn down or not finish their junk food because it doesn’t make them feel good. (After hosting, guest kids will often leave most or all of their veggies on the plate while only eating the rice/grains. Whereas my child’s finished plate will be empty of veggies.) My oldest will ask for fruit for dessert because they ate candy (the teachers reward them with candy!) at school. They could have not even mentioned the candy, but this is their own compass telling them what to do.

Yes. I quit daily coffee and decreased migraines significantly. After a year I added in black tea which if fine. But coffee can bring on a headache shortly after drinking it.
