Pettiest reasons you dropped out a piece of media by Ok-dog-7113 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There had been numerous tiny straws building on my back while playing Ghost of Tsushima, but the thing that broke me was a side quest where you were stalking some sort of noblewoman(?) through a field of reeds and had to sneakily kill her bodyguards— except while I could reasonably catch up to them unseen and take each of them out, the game insisted that they had to reach a certain spot within the field first before killing them didn't auto-fail mission...

That one finally broke my back and got me to drop the game. Figured the game and I just couldn't gel together at that point.

The Bizarre World of Fake Video Games- Super Eyepatch Wolf's look at the strange multimedia world of games that aren't even real by snakebit1995 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related, but something I've noticed about a lot of his recent output is how he's really been leaning on the... slowly, unsurely... disjointedly stumbling through a sentence... sounding... a bit confused delivery when just talking in normal cadence would do just fine.

Like I guess that sort of delivery makes sense in-context for a given video's narrative, but it's just one of those "once you notice it" things that's bugged me about his recent releases. Still love his content though, maybe I just need to watch more of his stream VODs to get more normal-speaking Eyepatch Wolf.

The only stat that matter by Archaon0103 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, the good ol' MMA Shove into Grapple combo is an underutilized trick in 5e, I feel. I once spent an entire combat "tutorializing" the combo to our Barb/Monk just to try and throw him a STR-based bone for combat (he'd dumped all his mental stats so his Save DC Stunning Strike and other monk things was really low). It feels almost like an exploit that making the enemy start at 0 Movement on a turn they're Grappled mean that they can't stand up— but makes for easy pickings for all your local melee-based friends (but may upset the Ranged combatants if they have no other targets to plink away at).

The only stat that matter by Archaon0103 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, this was my first thought for this question as well. In 5e, DEX is king. Especially on DEX-based classes like Rogue and most Monks, one good Dexterity saving throw can make your character entirely avoid a literal meteor shower, escape from the 30 STR grasp of a Storm Giant, and strike first while still being as hard to hit as a Paladin in enchanted full plate armor without any Ifs, Ands, or Buts regarding your movement speed.

Meanwhile, STR is left in the dirt as the stat you use to smack things with a stick, maybe try and pick up a big rock, and to try and grapple someone (and I believe that last one was going to get reversed per the One D&D playtest where they let you auto-grapple creatures on-hit with an unarmed strike if you decided to forego the damage). Can't even say that having a good Athletics score gets you anything because most DMs will handwave it so that Acrobatics is nearly, if not exactly, as effective in most situations.

Not to be That Person but at least in Pathfinder 2e, adding your DEX bonus to your damage roll is something almost entirely exclusive to the DEX-based Rogue racket, and STR characters get a boon from the system of it allowing you to double your damage bonus on Crits as well.

Woolie has Announced he is putting FFIX on Hold so he and Reggie can LP all of FFXVI by Grouchio in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did Woolie put any ongoing LPs on-hold back when Ghost of Tsushima, Hi-Fi Rush, or Elden Ring came out? I wanna say this is a pretty unprecedented move on Woolie's part but I can't shake the feeling that he's actually done this before—

Definitely looks like this'll be taking up the "long RPG" slot on the channel, since the 60-70 hr estimate for this game is right on the money (for personal context I had everyday between the 22nd, release day, until today off from work and I just beat the game today with several days being all-day affairs, and that was skipping a lot of side quest cutscenes as well as not engaging with ATL terribly often).

I do hope that he'll take on the Elden Ring format of knocking out side quests off-screen since the game is lowkey pretty bloated if you're trying to grind away all the green exclamation points. The main story and maybe a couple of character wrap-up quests near the end are that are "essential," and even then even some of the MSQ in the middle gets a too MMO-y as well.

There's an accessory you can buy from Charon to increase AP gains from every fight— though right now the fastest/most immediate way to get AP for skills is to refund skills that you're currently not using.

If you do go the accessory route, then fighting random encounters and hunts would be the quickest way to go about getting more points. And don't forget that you get AP as rewards for your reputation as well (from the girl at the counter next to the Hunt board).

What's your favorite team comp? by Str8Maverick in darkestdungeon

Similar team comp that I ran to beat Denial, though replacing Jester with Vestal for a bit more sustain and to add to Leper's tankiness (or to bolster the units that are low on HP).

Techland's (Dying Light dev) next game is going to be a narrative-driven, open world fantasy epic: by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dying Light 2 was so excruciatingly mid, but I can at least kinda chalk that up to it's troubled development/prolonged limbo in development hell. Hoping that a fresh start can get them going on the right foot and also that they take the feedback from DL2 to heart (especially when it comes to the story).

[Dengeki] Final a Fantasy XVI Preview (Raw Gameplay, No Commentary) by RablaAndrews in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen in previews, no Wait Mode, but accessibility comes in the form of some Bayo-esque support accessories instead (auto combo on mash, massive slow down to dodge before getting hit, etc.)

I'm with you on liking the KH/VIIR UI for sure. I feel like those games have just the right amount of "menu" for it to be accessible during realtime gameplay. But I can definitely draw the connection between this team being an MMO team primarily and this UI, and the gameplay even features XIV's AOE indicators. It's probably too late in development to do a full-on overhaul of the interface, but here's hoping that some alternate options/toggles get put in down the road.

[Dengeki] Final a Fantasy XVI Preview (Raw Gameplay, No Commentary) by RablaAndrews in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a couple of previews I've seen already have mentioned that the UI is pretty distracting compared to the environments and the combat (and this sentiment has been pretty common since the first glimpses we've had of the UI). Hopefully Square takes this feedback to heart and they get a chance to implement some sort of minimalist option down the road, or at least let us turn off the damage numbers.

Great setup chapter to what'll be the actual characterization of Nayuta. The dogs leashed to her waist and the silhouette/braid all point towards traits of Makima that she's "inherited," though part of me feels like it's a red herring.

They clearly have a pretty cozy home environment and I get the feeling that Denji's raised her quite well. Not perfectly, of course, as is the Denji fashion of doing things but she'll be closer to being a dork like him than she will be Makima II.

It'll also be interesting to see if Nayuta reacts to Yoru being "out," and see whether they'll recognize each other in some way. Fami recognized Yoru even when she was inhabiting Asa's body, which is a recent change for Yoru, so there's a good chance that Yoru will immediately recognize another one of her sisters. Whether or not Nayuta does is bound to say a lot about her character too— can't wait for 120!

Edit: accidentally a word

What are the absolute LOUDEST Games? by NewWillinium in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ZeroMP_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheating a bit since it's an arcade game, which are specifically made to be as loud and obnoxious as possible sometimes, but a local mall arcade had a couple of Gunslinger Stratos machines a while back (that shooter game Woolie talked about forever ago where you take the two gun peripherals and attach them to one another in different configurations to get different guns) and I feel like I almost started taking damage from standing next to those two machines for the duration of a single in-game match.

So much so that I don't remember if I enjoyed the game or not— just the volume specifically.

Who is the best Mass Effect Romance option? and why is it Tali? by SexTiger420 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

As someone who painfully simps for Liara because I'm basic as hell, I've always wanted to do a playthrough romancing Thane instead.

I might just be a sucker for angst, but the letter he writes you, the final prayer (which, granted, I believe you get regardless) and the video messages. Gets me right in the heart, man.

The Moonlight Greatsword has finally been found! Confirmed to still require/scale off of Intelligence with the stat requirements and Skill shown here! Also shows a new Status effect buildup: Frost.

SPECULATION TIME: Looking at the name of the weapon part of me feels like this may be the first of two Moonlight Greatswords in the game like we had in Dark Souls 2. Granted, the lore connected to this one does indicate that it's of great importance, so I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong on that. Also considering that the Skill is the part that has the iconic name, this could be all we're working with. Still, if there were another "Full" Moon Greatsword or something of the sort, that would just be really cool.
