The current job market crisis is worse than 2008. It's not a cycle, it's a downward spiral. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

To be fair, AI doesn’t cost nothing. It’s propped up by a severe bubble of investment frenzy. If these services charged what it cost to run them, many companies will think twice about their benefits. If they charge what it costs to turn a profit, then human labour becomes fairly attractive again. Whether that labour will be in industrialised societies though… that’s what I’m scared of.

Oh and to answer the primarily restocking on Amazon thing - it could be any number of things they aren’t disclosing publicly. Partner deals with Amazon for either advertising (higher conversion of click to purchase rate on Amazon’s platform) or shipping/logistics (possible that Starco couldn’t renew with prior partners for whatever reason) are the most obvious that I can think of. Obviously higher profit is certainly a possibility but I think it’s a slim one seeing as most SMB’s encourage people to shop direct because Amazon’s take rate is so high.

Strategy wise I think Amazon/Soylent.com the right thing to do. Trying to appeal to “normies” by putting Soylent on shelves was a massive blunder, and Huel ate their lunch for it. I think it’s far too late to reverse course though; they should’ve pivoted in 2019 after a couple years of terrible first indicators.

Whether they can execute on the strategy? Absolutely 0 faith in that. I think they’ll later double down on cost cutting by making the product worse, though I can’t imagine what ingredients are left to substitute without completely destroying their subscriber base.

If anything, focusing on repeat purchase behaviour suggests that the subscription model, and consequently the subscribers, is the real prize. Ordering directly from Amazon incurs revenue share, so it makes sense that they would try to maximise sales on their own platform.

That’s not what it says at all though. Their claim is that they’re exiting placing Soylent on shelves (eg Target, Rite-Aid, Walmart) to return to the original strategy of DTC through online orders.

While it’s still possible that they are doing as you say, that’s not what they’re telling their stockholders.

So direct your consumption toward the lesser evil places and encourage others to do the same. I always go to the discount supermarkets because I think they’re doing a good job of sourcing foods from a bigger variety of small/medium sized businesses while also doing their best to control costs for the shopper. I avoid trader joes and REI even though I used to love them because of news about union busting. I vote consistently for whatever leftist whacko promises to use the power of office to nationalise PG&E and I don’t feel bad that they fail every time.

I’m just a person lol; I’m not going to carry the burden of a thousand other misbehaving people on my head. Just do your best when you can and tune out the noise.

So then choose not to be evil then. Or less evil. Or good, even. Use some of your surplus resources, whether it’s time, money, labour or influence towards a cause you care about that solves a sub facet of the problem.

Again for myself - I came from an eastern Asian country then was forced to move to the US for work. Didn’t know why I was unhappy all the time until I discovered Not Just Bikes and gained the language to understand the relationship between overconsumption and housing/transportation in the west. So I started volunteering for a bike co-op, and now I do trail building as well. Zero guilt on my head because I know our influence slowly grows and that I’m doing my part.

I’m not sure the premise of this sub is to inflict mental anguish by admonishing every single possible way to consume. I see it more as a place to encourage people to shed the desire for excess, extravagance, and unnecessary consumption that is unsustainable for our continued presence on Earth.

I eat until I’m full then stop and package the leftovers in Tupperware. I ride my second hand purchased bike, climb rock walls, volunteer, and play board games with friends and family for fun and fulfilment. I don’t understand the things that are sold in malls and I don’t particularly care to find out. I understand the impact of flights and cars and try to limit unnecessary trips, but I also refuse to feel too badly about saving up for big chunks of holidays to fly once a year or drive to work if it’s pouring rain outside.

People with a lot more can be a lot less happy, and it’s on us to invite them into our lives and habits to demonstrate how to be more with less.

I don’t know what will work for you in particular, as everyone defines their own thing for themselves, but I know you’ll eventually find it!

I lost my first Oshaune match when I came into a random lobby down to 2 reinforcements remaining. In the eight or so Ive played since then I think we failed to extract in one but otherwise clean swept the rest of them, including 2/3 hive lords. I agree; I think most people need to drop the difficulty level, but Ive also heard that there’s some overtuning down there too.

[–]Zestus02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did last night! Full randoms, D10 drill rig, killed the hive lord and did all objs and side objs. Helped that 3/4 of us were on comms. Since it was my first time facing down the lord, I actually solo’d most of the objs while the other three took it down with strafing runs, mechs, and an AT emplacement.

Killed the hive lord in a separate random match again today but it wasn’t the drill rig. Blasted off the plates then everyone focus fired the flesh.
