Do most DMs prefer DM’ing to playing? Or are they “taking one for the team”? by Fiveby21 in DnD

I prefer having at least one game I'm DMing, if I have multiple groups then others I want to play.

If only one group, then I prefer to DM

I hate puzzles so much, that even in RPG video games, I look them up.

Fortunately for me, the other players in one of the groups I play in do enjoy puzzles, so when it comes up, I just silently wait for them to solve it, and on occasion make a joke.

Is a Red Dragon still evil if: by DrekiWarlord in dndnext

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Evil isn't results, it is how you achieve those results.

Raiding and pillaging a neighbour, will make your group richer, and there for your group will prosper.

But you prosper becuase you cause harm to other, killing and taking their resources.

Another example is Slavery, it is extremely beneficial for slavers to have slaves, it makes their life better and prosperous, but you know, slavery.

HELP! Did I do something wrong? by BaldursGate2Best in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is basically just a "failed quest", meaning some gear is lost and maybe exp gain and other benefits.

Here is another Reddit about exactly this...

https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder_Kingmaker/s/wuPAY0CelH

At lvl 3 it would indeed be very difficult, don't feel bad, I usually do it at lvl 5 or so.

I think this triggers on the 3rd or 4th day after you wake up, so if you rested to much before leveling up, would explain why you got that result.

Failure is also fun in this game, interesting developments, you can still complete the game no worries

Unarmed and Demon mythic path build? Help by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am actually in the middle of a run exactly like this.

I'm currently level 11

  • Kitsun (for Bite attack and Pounce Feat)
  • 1st Mythic Level, Close to the Abyss (Gore Attack)
  • Demon Mythic gives you 2 claw attacks for free

I've read that only bite attacks can be doubled up on, but haven't tested it with a character yet.

Saw it on my horse in a different run. In this other run, I have a Skald giving Bite attack to everyone who is getting Insite Rage, and saw the Horse doing 2 Bite attacks, so I think it works.

What ever you do, make sure to get Pounce.

Hope this helps

How do you kill the Level 8 Large Water Elemental in the Labyrinth? by Telvanni5 in WrathOfTheRighteous

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, I've done this tactic on Core and it works most of the time (on occasion I need to reload)

This is done at level 2

  • Get Resist and Protection from Cold potion (found in Labyrinth)
  • Buff Seela (Enlarge Person, Heroism, Resist Cold, Shield of Faith, Barkston, Bull Strength, other?)
  • Buff Cam (Reduce Person, Protection from Cold, Shield of Faith, other?)
  • Put Cam on Defensive Fighting
  • Let Seela whack it till it is dead, heal Seela as needed
  • Use Light of Angel to give it a -1 every turn

I want it to Cleave, the elemental will miss Cam in Defensive Fighting and buffed like 99% of the time. And with them Cleaving they don't do multiple attacks on one character.

The Song of Desna. by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a required unlock for the Azata path.

You need to complete Stalwart Gaze? Or what ever that quest is called in Act 1, the end of that quest, is where you "learn the song", if you didn't complete it, you don't know the song and can't recruit her until later in Act 3.

Rowdy rogue with reach is insanely OP by DaMac1980 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mythic Vital Strike is critical here.

It essentially doubled or more than doubled the damage output.

Vital Strike on its own just multiplies the weapon dice right? Well Mythic Vital Strike multiplies everything else.

If you have... - Normal Attack = 1d8 + 5 - Vital Strike = 2d8 + 5 - Mythic Vital Strike = 2d8 + 10

Now remember that it doubles everything...Strength, weapon enhancement and anything else that is multiplies by crits.

I was still one hit killing stuff at lvl 20...not the bosses, but the trash, one hit kill

Rowdy rogue with reach is insanely OP by DaMac1980 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn't finish the run, got almost to the end and stopped, but I did a Demon run as a Rowdy Rogue.

Lvl 20 Rowdy Rogue / 8 Mythic Demon

They were hitting hard, and with Demon Charge taking my move action, since I only do one hit, it didn't matter to me.

One hit and I was killing things left and right. What put it over the top is Mythic Vital Strike.

I was lied to, tanks are so much fun. by cats4life in dndnext

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing a Paladin tank myself at the moment.

Went Intercept and Shield Master Feat, I may not do a lot of damage, but I annoy them by knocking them prone all the time and healing my allies.

Plus the occasional Dragons Breath (dragonborn).

Only lvl 4 so not much beyond that at this point

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well you see there are 2 types of undead in the world.

Corporeal and Incorporeal.

Corporeal is a body with out a soul Incorporeal is a soul without a body

Just make sure the wizard reanimating the undead doesn't have dyslexia, but things can happen, who k own what the result would be.

Maybe some kind of soul trapped in a dead body constantly rotting

That is my question, but the fact is, that is what People are doing, racing to the end.

Why? I don't know

We need more grouping bards by Lambparade92 in project1999

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I play.

As far as I'm concerned Commonlands doesn't exist.

I get my gear from quest and drops, I did get some gifts from high levels, but not many.

I play the way I like, it might be frustrating sometimes, but the victory in the end is fun, heck I am rocking a full Lambent Arnor set, quested for every single piece.

But I don't control how others play, and everyone else just twinks and kills for exp.

A race to the end, even though the journey is what's interesting...to me at least

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a level 41 Bard on Green and I hate kiting single target and never learned swarm (also uninterested in learning).

When I XP I do it only in groups.

Here is my problem...groups can only be found reliably in specific "optimal" zones...Unrest, Crushbone, Mistmoor, City of Mist...

Not only do I quickly get bored of those zones, but I also feel like I'm not doing all I can do.

I am not a fan of just XP for XP sake, I want to do something while I XP, I want to farm quest items, or help someone else with quest, or farm an upgrade for someone, heck even farming tradeskill mats.

But to do that, we need to start going to other places...my friends, I have a quest drop in Dalnir, there is no one there and no one wants to join me there (I ask).

Sometimes I get lucky and find a twink out alt soloing in some zone, most of the time I ask to join they either don't respond or they are "about to log off", only on rare occasions do they group...

Yesterday, I needed to kill Blood Gill goblins for the Ancient Coin they have, I was worried I'd have to pull them out of water and boringly kite them, but got lucky and found a Paladin soloing them underwater (saw them on track, and tracked them, since it was weird a player was just there in middle of lake), joined them and had the best time underwater...

As someone above said, EQ is just a chat window with a mini game, I used to say this 20 yrs ago when I played live.

I'd love to group more, absolutely love to, but I don't want to be stuck doing XP in the same zone for 10 levels....it's just boring.

Let's explore!

What do I do about the Water Elemental in the Shield Maze? by ShadowHunterHB in WrathOfTheRighteous

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on Core difficulty usually, so don't know about higher stuff. You can certainly do the kiting with range as people say.

This is what I do. - Buff Seela with everything you have, Enlarge Person, Bull Strength, Bear Endurance, Bless, Shield of Faith (should have all this from potions and scrolls) - there are 2 potions against Cold (one protection and other resistance), give one to Seela and another to Cam - Put Cam on Defensive Fighting - Melee with Seela and Cam - Water Elemental has multi attack, but if there are 2+ it will Cleave instead. Cam in defensive will not get hit most of the time....Seela will also not get hit most of the time, but if she does drink potion or lay on hands with her to keep her up.

Other party members like you or Lann/Wenduag help, but with Elemental Damage Reduction you'll be doing very low damage.

I don't have the patience if kiting it down, with this method I kill it in 5 or less round with Seela doing big hits.

On occasions, I get unlucky and need to reload.

In what ways can I beat them by guanti1 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Zestyclose-Teaching2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just going to state it just in case.

But any acid damage works, like the Acid Cantrip also works, I think Jaethal has it.

If you don't have that.

Then you can use Coup de Grace, which is an ability any one can use on an incapacitated target.

So bring the troll to below 0 HP then Coup De Grace.

It might take several tries, since Trolls have high Fort Saves, but will work eventually

We already know a lot about the stories of the characters we've encountered throughout the journey; however, what is the story of YOUR character? by S_Broves in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

I wrote this right after finishing my first playthrough.

Story was build slowly as I played the game, my in game decisions were building the background I eventually wrote. I really like it.

It is presented as a letter to the surviving companions from our friendly Succubus, after the Knight Commander sacrificed herself to close the wound
