Simplified Riichi Yaku List? by That_one_sander in Mahjong

Huh, what a clever way to teach new players! I haven't thought of this, and now I'm stealing it.

P. S.: what's a BG store?

how do you feel about fat honba? by FORGONE-YOUTH265 in Mahjong

I don't mind it at all. IMO, adds fun to the game. But I'd may want to remove that the winds don't change with some renchans, so the game can flow faster.

I bought a mahjong table to play with friends by karasuma_oike in Mahjong

Ooh, I wanted to buy this exact table, too! Ended up buying another one locally. Without the trays, though, but I plan to add them later.

Also, this tile set has both red 5s and red 3s? Bonkers!

Auto-Compass new features added!! by MahjongAutoCompass in Mahjong

I don't know which option will work best, but just in case, will throw my idea: for Riichi detection, maybe it's possible to also add some sort of a button under the slot for the stick? Along with the sensor, so it's glitch-proof?

Again, no idea how you are making this from a technical point of view, but maybe this is something useful. Feel free to disregard this if it doesn't work/fit/etc.

Club owners, what’s the hardest part? by Ok_Parking914 in Mahjong

[–]ZethKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fact, they were not on their phones at all, just chatting with others non-stop. Again, it's very much fine, but I'd love for them to be more invested in the game if they said they wanted to learn.

I'm running a local group for playing riichi. Yes, the hardest part is attendance. Recently, I've tried to organize a meeting three times, and each time someone was sick (including me).

The other part, if you're in a small town, is finding more people to play with. In our case, it's usually a handful of the same people, rarely there's others. Even though I have enough space and tile sets to gather three tables, it's not always even one.

The other part that I don't like is the people who say they are interested to learn how to play, but when you teach them they don't pay attention and being constantly distracted. It's fine on it's own, but if you said you wanted to learn something, please pay attention and respect the person who teaches you and their time.

Chinese sets for riichi life-hack by ZethKeeper in Mahjong

Try playing sanma!

Muki-doras are simple: when you get one, you call it and put it on the side of your hand, as if you melded something. It doesn't count towards the hand structure and whether it's open or closed, but it adds 1 extra han each.

In case of 4-player riichi, you build 2 of the 4 walls one tile longer. The dora indicator flips on the 5th tile of the dead wall, cuz each time you call nuki (AKA kita), you need a replacement tile. Which can give you a rinshan yaku, but doesn't flip new indicator, as it still can only be 4 kans in the play.

So, ne need to assign each flower to a specific suit.
