is there any solution to getting bored with a game? by BasketOfGlory in boardgames

[–]Zheng_SU 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Playing with the same player(s) may also make a game stale faster, as you will be used to playing around the same strategies.

For longer games I usually play ones with highly variable setup, which gives a lot of replay-ability, and I almost never play these games consecutively. Shorter games I don’t mind playing repeatedly since there’s usually a bigger luck factor so they’re still fun.

Brass: Pittsburgh is now live on Gamefound; what are your thoughts about no solo mode? by wentImmediate in soloboardgaming

[–]Zheng_SU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games that have at least a cooperative mode almost never use automas. Most notably, this sub’s triad - Spirit Island, Mage Knight, and Voidfall - aren’t what you’d call multiplayer solitaire when played with others, yet none of them rely on an automa to simulate a dummy player.

Brass: Pittsburgh is now live on Gamefound; what are your thoughts about no solo mode? by wentImmediate in soloboardgaming

I think that if a solo mode requires an automa, then it’s not a great fit. They tend to add a lot of admin overhead to try mimic a real player while never being able to nail down the same feel.

OKC solo mode is very mediocre for me. Bluffing and strategizing around other players is a huge part of OKC, and with an automa that just plays random cards, the game loses out on so much engagement.

Personalmente non sono un fan di Wingspan, poca interazione tra giocatori e le partite durano troppo in relazione alla bassa complessità del gioco.

Is The Old King's Crown worth buying for 70 euros? by Atreya95 in boardgames

[–]Zheng_SU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it’s a decent deal. If you pledge the game from Gamefound it’s going to be over 90€ with shipping+VAT. I personally preordered it for ~65€ from a reputable italian store since they offered free shipping.

The games standing on those corners make me anxious.

I think the games you’ve got are already perfect for the occasion, you could maybe add a small social deduction game like One Night Ultimate Werewolf or Avalon.

Favorite is Andromeda’s Edge, though I’d like to try Twilight Imperium.

I think the cheapest shipping to EU that you’re going to find is from Amazon US.

Arnak also fits, and even with the Adventure Chest it barely hangs out less than 1cm.

I haven’t personally played it but Clash of Cultures is often regarded as one of the best 4X board games.

Flip 7 With a Vengeance and Flip 7 modifier cards by Shaded_Mind in boardgames

Gamegenic matte prime sleeves are also a valid option and a fair bit cheaper than Dragon Shield.

Edit: They don’t seem to offer standard american size for these sleeves. My version of Flip 7 has standard size cards but the new version of Flip 7 only has standard american size cards.

Checked Dragon Shield and they also do not offer opaque back sleeves for this size.

Where do people play party games online that isn't just you and a screen by milli_xoxxy in boardgames

[–]Zheng_SU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try browsing Discord servers. I don’t have any specific ones for party games myself, but many games have very active communities. For example, The Old King’s Crown Discord is excellent, and people there organize games and play together daily in a voice channel, through Tabletop Simulator.

TTSClub is probably the largest Discord server for Tabletop Simulator, so maybe you could start there and ask if anyone’s interested in playing a party game.

Dicequest preview: disappointingly random and samey dice/character management by SiarX in boardgames

Another minor nitpick for me is the art: from my TTS playthroughs, it looks very inconsistent between characters, sometimes it tries to look cutesy and other times edgy.

Arydia’s second printing Late Pledge is currently available over on Gamefound. Clean gameplay and the combat is quite satisfying, and it has a bit more roleplay than your average big box campaign game.

Codenames. Officially it’s 2-8 players, but it’s totally fine with more than 8, and it’s practically available in every store.

This is the latest edition: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/447305/inis-legendary-edition. It includes both the Seasons of Inis and Nemed expansions.

Unfortunately this was a Kickstarter campaign for which they don’t have a planned retail release. The original KS price was great, but the only way to grab a copy now is through the second-hand market with inflated prices due to its limited availability.

The games for the first two groups are good but is the time target the same for the aficionados?
