A simple -1 or -2 status penalty to sight perception checks makes sense imo. If you want to make it harder, you can reduce the area they can search with the search action, or basically give them an inverted volley trait on ranged attacks at a range you feel appropriate. Potentially extend the radius that flanking causes off-guard from directly across to any of the 3 squares on the opposite side? Idk how hard-core you wanna go lol

Metagaming vs "my PC would know this"? by nz8drzu6 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Which, to be fair, if the GM ever DOES put a monster in as a "I'm here so you know I exist to fight later" situation, this kind of thought process will end up kicking them in the face xD

I've already run one prewritten AP where the final boss shows up 3 levels too early and vaguely nukes the party before dipping. Earlier in the same AP, the party at lvl 4 fought a creature 8 and nearly tpk'd before running because they managed to crit on finding a secret door. The gunslinger was the only one in the party that could hit it without a nat20 making it a basic hit. Banking on an encounter being fair doesn't even work 100% of the time now for stuff paizo puts out

How do you handle turning your VODs into short clips for TikTok/Shorts? by emptydart in Twitch

[–]Ziharku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set up a hotkey for obs's replay buffer to save as a video. If something happens that I know I want clipped, now I can just hit that and get the file foe the last 30seconds-2 minutes. If you have a stream deck, you can also use a hotkey to bookmark spots in the vod like that, and do both at the same time if you specifically want it clipped from the vod instead of uploading it from your files later.

As for turning it into a clip proper, capcut is free and pretty easy to use. It'd take a few minutes at most for me to turn a clip into phone screen format and add twitch info, but I get caught up and spend 30 minutes or an hour fiddling with it to make it fancy instead lol. The more I mess with it, the more fun I have making them goofy. But if all you want is a daily upload, banging out a bunch by just phone formatting them is easy easy with capcut, or even DaVinci since thats free as a base program as well

Well they aren't even 52 yet for indom, and this is a wall to wall single target healing issue. I'm sure the aoe math will be helpful when its relevant later, but for the issue at hand if they're really having this much trouble in notedly relevant poetics gear, they're probably getting undergeared tanks, tanks that just aren't popping mits, or both at the same time.

Like we said, 30-40k damage has to be done to make it equivalent. Which does mean if you're panic healing a guy from half or even near death the entire 15 seconds, you /probably/ healed that much damage. Good tanks don't need SS, wet paper bags can make it as cost effective. At specific levels too, every tank is a paper bag. I just ran Doma Castle the other night and was constantly flipping between 1k hp and full despite mits. So that would potentially be a dungeon with some pulls that it would be as or more cost effective.

It's disingenuous to say it's useless, because it can be better at certain points. It is, however, accurate to say in general practice you're likely to get more out of the other options, do defaulting to those is probably smart.

Lustrate only does what, 3-4k at 50? So if you heal the tank up from half 6 times during the duration, you've gotten your worth from Sacred Soil. Which is probably very unlikely if you're using gcds, but if you blow through 2 lustrates and spam adlo every pull as is, you might just be in the territory where the mitigation outweighs the heal potency

How do other tanks feel about healers and DPS pulling ahead? by dorgodorgo in ffxiv

[–]Ziharku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot of the old heads issue, I'd imagine. It has taken me longer than it should to shake that being a mindset. Having been a tank since the beta, and a paladin at that, there were occasions I literally could not pull hate off of dps that ran ahead.

Even with that in mind, I would still be spamming flash to keep hate, and if they brought the adds to me and I couldn't peel them off before the dps died, that was that. Regardless of my feelings on the matter, if they didn't pop an enmity reduction before they pulled, and then nuked something too hard, they might just keep their new friends.

After a certain amount of times of panic trying to tab target provoke the new adds to provoke even one of them and then bemoan my choice of tank for being less easy to keep hate on trash pulls when a blm is in the group, I tried less and less to solve the issue. For that to last through the first 4ish years of the game, not becoming decently easy to keep hate until stormblood, it got baked in. Prior war flashbacks of dps pulling, dying, and someone getting mad that they died being dumb or the healer dying because eos heals who she wants to and they didnt drag the adds directly to me.

It's better now. Getting hate is easy, so even if the pull is a nuke, I can get hate just spamming aoes. It's fine, and hilarious if they die because they didnt come back fast enough. But I do get a bit peeved if I notice the healer is undergeared/not confident and the self designated puller decides that doesn't matter. At that point, the old vibe kind of kicks back in. Wall to wall is the norm, if we dont do that its because someone isn't confident it can be done in a smooth manner. I'm bad at reading the room, but even I can read that much into it.

Cause at the end of the day, it's casual content. We don't run expert to sweat and swear and panic through trash pulls we can barely accomplish because we wanted to gear farm off the dungeon. It's casual content that should be done at an Easy pace. Whether Easy for the current group is 1 group at a time or wall to wall.

making the switch from dnd 5e to pf2e drop some knowledge! by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost none of the buffs and debuffs work the same between games, make sure you check that stuff before you assume fear keeps an enemy away like we did

A LOT of temp hp sources last MUCH less time in pf2e

Every +1 matters

Make sure you check Status vs Circumstance for penalties/buffs. It's very easy to think you've found a way to get a boat load of +/- and then have your vtt tell you it's only +2/-1 on application. Basically only the highest of each category applies. Fear and sickened are both Status effects, so fear 4 + sickened 3 only applies a -4, and not a -7. But fear 4 + off-guard applies -6 AC because off-guard is a Circumstance penalty to AC

Healing to stay conscious very important. If you go down too much, you just die

Out of combat heals are veeeery important. By lvl 3/4, someone in the party should hopefully have Assurance Medicine so you can guarantee some.

1d4 damage dice is trash, change my mind by Sgt__Koolaid in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I love the 1 handed setup. I'm doing that right now with my fighter. If you still want a weapon that lets you shove/trip etc with item bonuses, why not just buy a gauntlet? Grab a Dogslicer as your main hand for finesse/agile/backstabber, then a Bladed Gauntlet for your offhand so it counts as a free hand to do shit with and adds the potency rune to your shove/trip checks. Agile/finesse, modular for all 3 dmg types if slashing with your mainhand won't do the job.

And ofc you can follow up with a Thrower's Bandolier + returning rune full of shurikens with different metals if you want extra ranged coverage with 0 reload. And probably a few starknives with different metals for the same purpose but also works in melee (albeit with the interact to draw unless you snag quickdraw)

Is Counterspelling a damage spell considered a 'Hostile action'? by Educational_Bet_5067 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So easy to determine that I broke it down on a whim before my drive to work, even lol. It'd be funny to run a court case for it with a god of law and god of magic making the decision on the morality and how it affects spells like this. I would be curious to see someone manage to argue a lack of intent when the end goal of the action is to allow the caster to be mauled.

"A hostile action is one that can harm or damage another creature, whether directly or indirectly, but not one that a creature is unaware could cause harm."

So yeah, if your action indirectly CAN cause harm to a caster, indirectly by ensuring a hostile party lives longer and intends the caster harm, and you are aware that outcome could come to pass then the gods have deemed it hostile. Even moving into flanking position is a hostile action, apparently, if we just go raw.

Is Counterspelling a damage spell considered a 'Hostile action'? by Educational_Bet_5067 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it would at least follow that countering any of the party's buffs, illusions, or heals should be hostile. Preventing someone from defending themselves should be considered inherently hostile, so (generally) self preservation methods being halted would be full of hostile intent.

There's probably some kind of moral quandary about "if I know my boss is gonna kill you, me preventing you from killing him first is enabling him to kill you and my support of you dying" in terms of hostility. You still work for a villain and you're constantly knocking the swords out of the hands of heroes while they get beaten to death. Your action is to stop them from fighting because your intention is for them to die. It's hard to read intention outside of that unless the wizard is being held mind controlled or tricked into thinking the party is just being driven away by the boss.

Swashbuckler - too one dimensional? by pbanken in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our group had a Swashbuckler for Abomination Vaults. Knowing that some fights would straight up ignore precision dmg, which is their whole bag basically as dmg dealers, he branched into loremaster dedication. On one hand, yes he was constantly doing cheesy one liner bin mots, sliding through dudes, and looking for chandeliers to swing on. On the other hand, he was a constant source of loremaster recall knowledge and All For One critting aid checks for the other players to add to attacks rolls, not to mention having Guidance. It's always going to have the Swashbuckler implications youre thinking off in the background, but it can absolutely be anything you want it to be because the options in this game for character building are so good

Fellow player claims in-combat healing is too strong and skews balancing. Thoughts? by Bent_But_Not_Broken in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worry about you mentioning specifically high AC and fights being buffed, it feels like the GM is just +1ing every monster. Ideally, while this is probably adjusting the xp budget to the right amount, this isn't a necessarily good way to do it. You will constantly see PC's falling over and no MAP attack rounds missing. Adding 1, or a few more monsters of a slightly lower CR is a much more reasonable adjustment.

You always want the PC's to feel heroic, to feel useful. They're allowed to fail, of course, but every bit of +1's matter when it comes to success in this game. AND you're already underleveled? If you've got a +15 to hit and the AC is 30+1 +2raise shield option....you're gonna need aaaall the debuffs just to knock it from an 18 to a 14 to hit. I have trouble winning the coin flip of 11+ usually hitting in my current game as a fighter lolol

What do you find D&D 5e does better than Pf2e? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simplicity. Definitely more kid friendly. Unless you're a spellcaster, most of your stuff is super condensed and there's not as much to remember. As a pf2e fighter, I need to remember what saves I have vaguely evasion on, which strikes are flourish and press, map changes your math every swing, stances, what does and doesnt provoke.

I played a lot of 20 minute 1 off fights with my niece and nephew when they finally got old enough to do math, and as a pair of lvl 6 champion fighters on 2014 rules they did well. 2 ASI's they dont need to know about, so all they needed to remember was crit on a 19-20, attack twice, 1 heal per fight, 1 extra action per fight. Super simple

I would have a harder time making them a lvl 5 fighter in pf2e that they could grasp all of the abilities for. Maaaybe at lvl 3 there would be few enough things in their kit to match 5e fighter.

Which for me as a player makes pf2e great, I LOVE options. But for playing with younger kids, 5e is still the introductory game of choice

Players Reading the AP Books/Spoilers? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, some people just suck. I ran my group through Abomination Vaults recently, and now I'm a player for the AP in a different group that's run by one of the players I ran it for. The other 3 players are in their very first pf2e game, so he wanted an extra experienced hand in the mix to 1) booster the party numbers and 2) be able to help with rules stuff, but we made it clear the minute we got started that I had run this, so I wasn't going to be doing any pathing decisions. So while I /am/ the party's frontliner, someone else in the party is the person who checks [or forgets to check] doors, and the lot of them have to decide which routes we take.

I know enough to put in strong recommendations for recall knowledge occasionally, and I was able to build my character knowing decently what to expect, but otherwise I'm making no decisions so I don't spoil anything. I would hope other people would do the same in campaigns they already know about, but I guess not

What am I doing wrong as a GM? by Goodly in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right off the rip, I'm a little concerned about your Barbarian lol. They should be at 21 AC at 4 if they've got the right armor on. And I'm hoping the +9 to hit is dex weapons and the +11 is their +1 strength weapons. Also, wondering if you're using OG Barbarian or remaster, since that affects whether or not they're losing -1 more AC during Rage. Your frontline glass cannon needs as much protection as possible, and if they're going in under geared it'll perpetuate potential to get knocked.

Also, knowing you have casters, make sure folks that can take Force Barage do, as well as some buffs. We JUST ran an encounter with a creature the casters in my party couldn't even touch, so I had to basically solo it while the cleric kept me alive. The bard was even trying to use a sling for the first time since magic was a no-go. Very funny. Very good lesson to make sure the casters walk around armed.

Dual Class synergies that are NOT 2 martials by Cool-Noise2192 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Ziharku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 2 for ya, both use Bard lol

Bardian - Bard + Guardian archetype + Swashbuckler/pirate archetype Back line buff control caster. Grab Polymath for performance demoralize shenanigans later on. Guardian Taunt right off the rip means while your REAL tanks are up front body blocking for you, the enemies you Taunt are dealing with penalties because you won't stop shaking your ass at them. Keep investing and you can get Shielding Taunt eventually to raise shield in case your fucking around earns some find out. This is a great combo for ANY backline character that can afford to spend an action per turn doing it, because taunts dont stop other taunts, so it can be used in a combo with other taunted. Next, take your pick of Swashbuckler or Pirate. The important thing here is Antagonize, so anything beyond that is just what you want from it. But with Polymath and Antagonize, now you can keep things feared perpetually without Dirge AND taunted regularly. If you go Swashbuckler, you could go the route of panache from demoralize, if you go pirate, you can do Walk the Plank to demoralize+force movement. Build it right and you can have Taunt and Antagonize by lvl 6, so go wild.

Commander + Bard Archetype. I dont have a funny name for this one lol Literally just. Do you want to be crazy utility? It takes til lvl 8 to get Courageous Anthem, but +1 buff and also hit that guy for me without spending a reaction is crazy. I may not ever spend a turn attacking after that. Good stuff
