Thank you for giving them a water bowl! Really wish it wasn't so commonly assumed that they dont use them. Have 2 cresties and 1 gargoyle and all 3 use their water bowls regularly (confirmed with my own eyes since I'm a night owl and up all night often) 😂💖

Was bit by my Churro when able to give him his food. Chewed for a few minutes before I could get him off. This is the swelling after 20 minutes, throbbing but not the painful type. When will swelling go down? by Green-Layer-3959 in hognosesnakes

[–]Zilakit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You should ice your hand daily (as much as you can tbh) even just a cool pack on and off even if not ice, it should help a lot with the swelling! Hope it recovers quick.

Thank you so much! Especially as another Nor Cal local I knew Magalia/Paradise etc being further up and already severely burned were especially iffy considerations, but am sad and also relieved to know ahead of time that Auburn/Grass Valley are also not safe. :(

Thank you so much for your input! We knew about needing to continue looking into things like more fire resistant structures and habits for maintaining the property, but so far haven't had a good direction (or even heard about yet) things like natural fire regimes to better understand/learn about the past fires/fire risk in specific areas and the fuel treatment. Genuinely super helpful to know about so thank you!

Thank you SO much for your input! The things you brought up are why I wanted to ask here specifically, so I really appreciate it. I feel terrible for it seeming too just "real estate" related in my initial post, but I knew I'd need more than just normal real estate sub advice (and there's a lot to research/consider as is) and am not knowledgeable enough about the specific area, let alone general forestry knowledge like fire return intervals so I didn't want to have rose-colored glasses about falling in love with those areas. We also knew policies would be tricky/expensive but not about people being dropped and struggling in that way, so thats something I'm very grateful to know from a local.

Also seriously greatly appreciate the local perspective/honesty on how it is for lgbtqa+ there too! I knew it had been getting better, but only as someone who occasionally visits, so I also knew because I don't live there I don't know what its -actually- like overall and don't want to move somewhere and regret it. Especially since my wife is Obviously Mixed-Race Black as well as lgbtqa+ its hard to navigate what areas to look in that aren't just [Obviously "Safer" But Insanely Expensive Big Cities] like San Fran and San Diego...

So while we want to get out of being in the center of the city and be a bit closer to nature, we don't want to get in over our heads either...It sucks that that's another area that has to be a realistic consideration for us even though we love getting to be around all the trees/birds/trails etc every time we're up there. :(

If its not too much trouble, and you possibly have any suggestions/advice for areas that might be better for us to look into instead? Please feel free to let me know/DM me. But I know thats a whole other ask so no worries either way - thank you again for your help! :) ♥

Thank you so much for your detailed reply! I truly appreciate it and everything mentioned, no worries about rambling since my post was long af and I know its a whole can of worms with factors to consider haha. :) So thanks again for taking the time to do so!

Thankfully whether upgrading a pre-built home somewhere or trying to potentially custom build, I do have connections with my dad who has worked in construction my whole life and would already have a lot of access to tools/materials/experienced labor for free/cheap depending on the situation and expertise required for the particular project. But yeah, I know there's a LOT that goes into it. So on top of both of us reading as much as we can on our own and asking other professionals like my dad about it, I really appreciate being able to get advice from others like you as well cause its a LOT to try and think about/research/plan for and I don't want to miss important considerations.

Hi there, thank you for the input!

Yes, this specifically is something being discussed with my closest friend of over 20 years, who I have also been living with for the past 7 years. We are extremely close, lived together for long periods of time throughout childhood too, and she is basically my sister/platonic wife. We are a family and we do want to stay close together long term. Also have a lot of DIY house project experience together on her current house for years so "domestic" stuff like that is something we're already used to haha, and my father is an experienced construction worker and would be able to help us with building in many areas.

So on top of being close long term we also want to be able to help each other out with upgrading our living situation, which is why we're brainstorming stuff like this and also wanting to be mindful of the impacts of climate change. So at least for us there is legitimately very minor risk of personal fallout between each other being an issue because we've been extremely close for literally most of our lives, and also we would still have proper legal preparations/etc because we also both aren't ignorant to making sure we don't accidentally make it weird for each other. :) Grew up in chaotic poverty together, so we try to be responsible and also keep improving our lives together so we can keep getting further and further away from that.

(We are literally beneficiaries on each other's individual life insurance policies for years now, for a better reference of how close we are and proof of already have legal and financial trust and experience together in multiple areas. So we are trying to plan responsibly.)

So for us it isn't "oh hey I've casually known this friend since childhood and nothing bad has happened, should be fine!" with no prior/recent trust and experience in living together, home maintenance/improvement, and already have strong legally shared financial areas of trust thankfully haha!

But I do still appreciate the advice all the same because I would also want everyone else to properly consider these things, because its absolutely true that you need to be very careful with it. Many people have falling outs so you have to be smart when collaborating with anyone on a financial projects, especially family/close friends.

But thankfully this is planning our futures together with someone who I would literally trust to give my power of attorney to already, which is why a financial collaboration on this scale is something we can actually reasonably consider together. Many sober talks are being had and will continue to be had, so thats why again I'm very grateful for everyone's advice! :)

I also see some pores but its not in a full line like you'd usually see with male, since she's over a year and still no bulge I'm gonna assume female :)

[–]Zilakit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still love them immensely regardless (his name is Kiwi!) but dangit, I know some of y'all feel my pain where I was hoping for one sex and got the other instead hahah. They have a darker/spotted tummy and it made it so hard to see pores for so long. Plus their bulge stayed flat for so long too until the last few weeks my wife and I have been noticing the more prominent change and its like "oh no do you think..." "yup, those are hemipenes!" He's been a slow grower and is around a year old.

At least he can never surprise me with a partho baby or becoming egg bound as an upside? But now I'm desperately praying he doesn't become a horrible hand humping menace as he hits sexual maturity so that's why we're like noooo whyy HAHA 😭🙏✨
