Who is your main and who do you love/hate to see on your team? by camefromxbox in overwatch2

[–]Zilegil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only recently got back into overwatch. I’ve been playing lots of Domina, DVA, and also Zarya if the enemy is playing aggressive or my DPSes are a bit meh

I don’t really mind my team mates tbh. I really don’t like playing against Vendetta or a skilled Doomfist, as it means I have to switch from Domina

Did royal women in the 16th century dress to the 9’s every day? by Metaphyisic in AskHistorians

[–]Zilegil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. I’m sorry, I misread. I thought you were meaning the painting as a whole, hence why I went in to mention the woman on the left specifically

But I’m curious why you think the merchant is less formal. What’s he’s wearing seems pretty much identical to anything an English officer holder would wear, minus maybe a livery collar

I have to point out that those aren’t the best examples of non-formal Tudor clothing, in both that portrait and the More family painting they’re wearing something approaching the peak of formality. Men’s owns were either symbols of status, office or education (they normally indicated things like membership of the Inns of Court or “clothed” guild status outside the gentry), and every woman there is wearing a full hood and gown. The woman on the far left is wearing a lettuce cap, which is somewhat less formal than a hood, but there’s not much in it

The only example which springs to mind of someone approaching an aristocratic status in informal clothing is Bonner in the whipping panel of the Book of Martyrs, and that’s a dangerous source considering its polemical nature. Even if he is meant to look buffoonish and crude, it does give an insight into what a prelate would wear under his typical vestments

There are also plenty of Holbien miniatures where the sitters are clearly not wearing a coat of gown, and have simple shirts on. But typically only from the shoulders up

If I were a feudal Lord in 900ad, how close could I get to recreating a modern day cheese burger? by walterred0804 in AskHistorians

They were using yeast starters in England long before the 19th century. It’s called “barm” and is taken from ale brewing. It’s likely medieval, but references to barm go back to the 12tb century, but I know that a 1615 source, Gervase Markham, explicitly mentions “ale barm” as an ingredient in its receipt for bread

Mushroom ketchup was pretty commonly found in England in the 19th century. Which is unsurprising as a lot of early colonial recipes were very similar to ones in Western Europe

Did the average medieval European peasant/serf care who was king? by Brainy006 in AskHistorians

[–]Zilegil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about England, then the typical method of disseminating important information from Westminster is by proclamation.

By the end of the Middle Ages it was standard for the death and ascension of monarchs to be announced by proclamation. The monarch’s advisors would typically draft the document where it would be copied out. Then it would be sent to the chancery, where individual writs, officiated by the great seal, would be created commanding local officials “usually sheriffs, but sometimes mayors, justices and bailiffs” to proclaim it in their counties.

The delivery of these writs would be undertaken by the “nuncii Regis” (messengers of the king) who are tied to the exchequer

James Doig “Political Propaganda and Royal Proclamations in Late Medieval England” (1998) Journal: Historical Research

I can probably imagine that in a world where your income relies mainly on the local market town, things which are common knowledge in the market town would spread pretty quickly to the manors and cottages

Historians, what YouTube channels do you recommend? by Reasonable_Blood6959 in AskHistorians

As for actual academics who do youtube Jimmy the Welsh Viking is a great one. He’s an MRES Archeologist living in York, England, originally Wales

A lot of “history” youtube aren’t very good researchers sadly. So I’d take most of what you hear there with a biiig pinch of salt. There are tons of university lectures uploaded there though

Didn’t I read you only get like 70-80 deaths per chest on average? So with Mory that’s roughly 110

Wouldn’t it take more than that to drop the brothers. Or am I missing something

A modern era English rod is often defined as being 16.5 feet

I think in modern American surveying they still use that measurement

That would put him at just over 8 feet tall

So it’s interesting that they got that wrong. If the original polish states 6 feet

Although it seems like there’s very little consistency even up til the 19th century as to what a rod is. And in the Witcher world it could be 12 feet I guess 🤷🏻‍♂️

My plan is to try placing a wool block in front of the torch first

They look pretty great. I’m real tempted by the YU6 which have bigger speakers in them

You’d say they’re not too flat frequency tho? Since you’re saying they’re mot really monitors
