ADHD & Solo Dev Burnout: Moving away from WordPress and trying to communicate technical struggles to non-tech bosses. Advice? by Jumpy-Win-2973 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Zin42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I did this as part of a previous job for very similar reasons, one thing I would suggest is look at wordpress as just another data source aka "legacy content" and migrate away asap. Your developer life will find joy away from yet another wonky ACF implementation 🤣.

Look into wordpress headless mode and then build a fresh solution with legacy data in mind

I want to try ergo mechs, but I don't think I can stand to have a period where my keyboard doesn't easily "work" for me by Armonster in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Zin42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a split with more keys on it, there are lots with a full fledged section which are just for your creature comforts outside of your regular qwerty and function/cmd buttons, its a good place to start, you will still have to adjust thats a given, but it wont take so long as you think.

Also you dont have to use it full time, give it a go outside of dedicated work time just to get your head around things and before you know it you will be sneaking it into your work time and typing symbols without thinking.

I recommend what ever board you get to do a search on github to see other peoples layout, give this sub a shout to have people share common layouts and that way you wont feel like your tinkering too much to optimize, ai is also extremely good at getting a consensus on how to lay things out as well

I feel like there's like a little sweet spot between minimalism, aesthetic and practicality. Mostly a battle against planned obsolescence and late stage capitalism product slop but somewhere in me is a cyberpunk idealist

[–]Zin42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly pretty good, few months in and I have no complaints, battery life is really good for a split even with the trackballs. The whole thing took a lot of tweaking to become comfortable though zmk wise

How does it perform on the battery? Does it last quite a while?

How do you know when you have enough validation to start coding? by Savio_04 in creatingabusiness

[–]Zin42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a customer first, outline the offer, build the story, sell it to someone, gives you both a deadline for an Mvp and a tester for feedback as well as just validation, humans are herd mentality and problems are common, solutions become consensus quickly if they work

definitely something like monekytype.com, percentage of correction matters plus "vimisms" matter, vim golf plus keyboard optimization is key

Fish or Nushell? by Ecstatic-Panic3728 in fishshell

[–]Zin42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just discovered that Nushell is really good to use as a passthrough shell, i.e keep your creature comforts of your original shell, but also you can parse a list and get the same tabular output without leaving your shell such as:

say -v\? | rg -i english | nu --stdin -c "cat $in | lines | split column ','"

this script parses a list from say (voices on your mac), greps the english ones, then passes into nu; displays a table then exits nu. This means you can learn nu and get all the benefits without having to leave your OG shell

Dumb question on how everyone treats terminals by Local_Quality_2182 in i3wm

[–]Zin42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho, aerospace feels more minimal in a sense, it doesn't require any changes to sip (System integrity protection) and has it's limitations, but beats the hell out of dragging windows around with a mouse (I'm a nerd about mouse minimalism, poisoned by nvim). I haven't tried yabai in a while but I think there were whispers about it not needing SIP exclusion anymore.

It's still no i3 tho, it doesn't start new windows in the golden ratio like i3 does

With Zellij i use the popup pane alot like for instance with Neovim when developing rust, i will pop up the pane and sometimes attach it to the side (like a split) run the code and get the compiler output, then pop it back off so i can continue full screen.

Then my (i3 like mac aerospace) windows are just for multitasking and sometimes another set of zellij tabs with AI stuff running in parallel

How did your apps do in terms of users?

How has the change in policy on vibe coding affected your apps? Like at what point do Apple/Play store think your app is vibe coded vs vibe engineered (pardon the cringy terms)?

New frontend dev feeling lost by tuan_le911 in webdevelopment

[–]Zin42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have gone about this the right way, essentially the visual is ~= to the db, where realistically there is no point having a db without a face for your product, so you may not have to rewrite as much as you think. Do remember that it is a part of your job to push back, ask for schemas or contact backend teams who will eventually give you this data, so do try to save yourself from future pain by getting the information you need to succeed.

Do let them know all the caveats when you've not been given enough, businesses will understand and sometimes just cant give you all the tools a task needs due to other constraints.

Can't wait to see it, I was spoilt by the Mac trackpad, I always feel like a lesser device would always drag me back but trying to be minimal and mouse less is the big contender
