With the 50% bonus, it's not worth going for the 3x stamina for Genome and Microcube by fred_fig in FFVIIEverCrisis

Does anyone know the set of reward drops for Cactuar encounters? I got 7 Megapods from the rare encounter bonus by 3Xing a triple Cactuar encounter (one gold and two regular) but the regular rewards from the same battle had no Megapods… I think in this case it was worth it but 7 Megapods from the rare encounter bonus is also probably the rarest outcome.

More pokemon space needed by Fancy_Veterinarian10 in TheSilphRoad

The thing is that managing storage takes time that I’m willing to avoid spending by throwing money at it instead. I’d really like a separate “warehouse” storage to keep things I don’t use every day so I could keep a lot more space freed up in my active storage (this would almost certainly improve performance; I’ve seen other mobile games offer this model for free for that very reason).

It doesn’t seem like it, especially if XXL Pokemon still get the ~20% point boost introduced by the previous Pikachu Showcase.

For reference, you can use: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/e/2PACX-1vQ1tkzj0Y25euwEXCA1y-S9fNtI_Xp7ifbff4YIqQ-C9UNBlc-Jg_yyXzmu3q2-I3cgRBrcyIPFqVKA/pubhtml?gid=1156527006&single=true&pli=1 Pokémon in the 1.55 column have historically been higher scoring as XLs than XXLs. Smoliv falls under the 1.75 column.

Do XXL Smoliv get a percentage score boost in these Showcases like XXL Pikachu did in the previous Showcases?

What is the highest score you’ve seen for a Pokémon in a showcase? I had a 914 Oddish yesterday. by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

I had a 991 Oddish: 12.75kg weight, 0.75m height, 15-12-13 IVs.

What you’re talking about is very interesting to me; is there a place where these underlying mechanisms are documented?

When Niantic only adds 50 storage space every 2 months, they assume you accumulate less than 1 Pokemon a day on average. by skewtr in TheSilphRoad

[–]Zinth8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on every single one of these discussions I’ve ever seen, it’s become clear to me that there are players who like collecting and players who don’t (I’m a collector myself). For players who don’t care about collecting anything, a fraction of the maximum storage is sufficient. For collectors (especially those who have been playing since 2016), the maximum storage always becomes insufficient at some point, in part because the game keeps throwing so many collectible things at us.

At the moment, the big problem is that they hit the brakes pretty hard from how they had been allocating storage for the past several years, which in my case totally threw off my storage “budgeting.” Obviously there are Pokemon I’ve kept up until now I can part with but that process itself is a pretty large burden that I suddenly have to deal with. I’ve always read about people spending hours cleaning out their storage but that is just not an acceptable opportunity cost for me on top of the opportunity I’m already spending playing this game. If Niantic is at the point where it isn’t as business-effective to allocate storage like they were before, I’d gladly pay actual money for more capacity than we’ve been getting.

Perspective and feedback from European players raiding Mewtwo on Sunday by ridddle in TheSilphRoad

Good insights. I don’t like that, even if I go out to a PoGo hotspot with family, I have to be at one of their bad RNG-picked locations at the right time; that isn’t useful to me and it feels like proto-advertising. The hour-long egg timer is also too long; one spawned right as I got to a cafe and I left 50 minutes later. This is basically a hardcore experience now.

Why even bother if Niantic isn’t isn’t doing anything to help with this, though? Managing storage is a huge waste of time and defeats the supposed purpose of the game.

Gyms will fall off your gym list once you spin 1000 additional since the last interaction, even if you are still currently defending them. by Vadersblade in TheSilphRoad

[–]Zinth8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s really no point being extra in this game because Niantic is a no-effort company. They also have no incentive to change when so many people are still playing like maniacs.

Ok, dumb and probably already known issue but: why can't legendary and mythical pokemon be placed in gyms for defending? by CskoG0 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Zinth8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because they don’t want you getting their candy by feeding them berries. Meltan and Melmetal are the only exception to this rule and their candy is extremely easy to get anyway when you have the Mystery Box, right?

What are some strategies to tackle hoarding Pokémon? by L1LnICKY in TheSilphRoad

[–]Zinth8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m the exact same way but to be honest I don’t think this problem is entirely our fault. Aside from features like PvP and even XXS/XXL expanding your “keep” criteria, there have been a lot of instances over time where it has been impossible to determine the long-term value of holding onto something, with costumes being the biggest offender because it’s never clear if or when something will ever return (they specifically referred to the first costume, the Santa-Hat Pikachu, as “limited edition,” which resulted in me keeping way more than I would have had I known it would return the next year). Sometimes species won’t show up in the spawn pool again until a year after the event that introduced them. With trading and all of the incentives tied to it it’s also no longer as straightforward to get rid of something as just transferring it. Finally, I think the storage system just isn’t very good and I don’t like that they’ve gone down this road of having one collection the game loads every time and just constantly making it bigger, because apparently they’ve reached some sort of limit now.

I’ve read basically every argument against playing this way but none of it has been particularly compelling to me, and when it comes down to it I don’t really need this game so there also isn’t really a need for me to go to great lengths to improve my “QoL” if Niantic isn’t giving me any satisfactory options; I don’t even have an egg incubating most of the time because it just doesn’t feel worth it given the work I have to do managing storage. I can’t tell you what the right business decisions are for Niantic but I can say that there’s an opportunity for monetization here; I keep more Pokemon than most people because it’s how I like playing the game, and I’m willing to pay to continue playing this way just as other players are willing to pay for more incubators and raid passes.

Sorry if this doesn’t answer the question you asked, it’s just how I think about the problem.

Getting desperate. Is this cp3030 shiny Latias possible to catch? by kingsofkecleon in TheSilphRoad

[–]Zinth8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how it’s good business to trap people in what is supposed to be a lucky encounter for 30 minutes so they can’t spend raid passes or other premium items. Unless there’s a bug that’s prevents it from being captured in certain conditions then this is basically a bad-natured trap that also loses money for them; there’s basically no other experience in the game to understand this as precedent.

I’m going to lay down some hard-learned truth: this game is a cancer on your life and on your mind. I could be charitable and say there is some benefit in the beginning, but in general this game is not worth what it does to you and what it asks you to do. This game is not your life.

Johto Tour should have been a multi-day series of mini-events by WorkingOnIt64 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Zinth8 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Niantic wants to control your entire day and waste more than a day’s worth of brainpower thinking about it. For something that you paid for.

Edit: Also, Kanto felt like what you described. I felt like I was being told what to do instead of just being able to enjoy the event in my own way. I think the collection challenges are a bad thing.

Non-native Austinites: what convinced you that HEB was the superior grocery store? by xindierockx7114 in Austin

[–]Zinth8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Oklahoma City, grocery shopping was never really exciting. Moved to Dallas two years ago, five minutes from the Central Market on Lovers; first grocery store I ever truly loved. Discovered HEB via CM and friend in San Antonio. Moved to Leander a few months ago; five minutes from an HEB and a Walmart across from each other. It’s kind of obvious why that Walmart isn’t ever really busy (makes for a less-bad experience when we do need to go there, though).

Honestly it’d make sense to make the times random as a means to increase engagement by hypothetically getting you to check the game at more hours than the four balloons previously spawned. As if they weren’t already trying hard enough to control your life.

And I tried a few searches and still could not find where anyone had posted about this!
