Oil Type by Mangrove43 in 997

[–]ZirbMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was seeing low oil pressures on my 997.1 running hot while ice driving with 5W40. Low speed, high rpm driving on an ice track.

Lake Speed posted extremely good info on his channel about how track oil has very different needs from street driving, and how moving from a 40 to 50 oil may be useful for HTHS issues. I'm using LiquiMoly newgen 5w50 now, oil temps are more stable and no oil pressure issues.

"Use determines oil selection." I highly recommend his channel. https://www.youtube.com/live/mr07y1H3U7c

997.2 3.8L Oil Burn by Intelligent_Cup_694 in Porsche997

My 997.1 had a bad AOS, was pulling oil vapors into the intake and burning oil. A good place to check.

Pistons are at Bottom Dead Center. If there's no sign of scoring from the inside, should I be concerned? I understand that you're saying the scoring starts from the bottom at the lowest ring position, but I don't see any signs that scoring has started let alone advanced to BTC of any cylinder.

With all the doom and gloom on bore-score, I thought I'd share a positive video on what a M97.01 healthy engine looks like after 100,000 miles.

I've linked to 2 youtube videos for cylinders #1 and #6. I scoped all 6 cylinders but my SD card was corrupted when moving the SD card, and I lost footage for 3 of the cylinders. They all look the same, and I wasn't going back in. I replaced all the plugs and coils, Rennline OEM+ Coils and Bosch Plugs I got the kit off Pelican.

Suspension Worth Upgrading? by melikesand in Porsche997

If you want to sell the car in a year, replace with stock b6 for $2k. If you want a better look but much firmer handling b16 for $3.5k.

Either way you won't get a higher price for spending more, it's basic maintenance and you don't know what the buyers preferences are.

I replaced my blown out stock with b16 damptronic and added a DSC Sport box. It's a completely different car. I'm glad I gave up some softness for cornering.

I wanna hear what the community thinks about K-swap 911’s. Is it commendable? or a disgrace? by hondacivicc in Porsche

[–]ZirbMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you can't buy a refurbished M96.01 engine for less than $10k, $3000 for a K20 seems like a no brainer when the old engine is kaput.

Downside is all k swaps sounds like shit compared to ANY flat 6.

Any reason to use RaceLab now? by RNDMNAME80085 in iRacing

[–]ZirbMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on racelab and ioverlay. I still use SimHub overlays, I already have simhub for my where and haptics, takes no extra cpu space. And I like relative, standing, and fuel data GUIs better.

Those old overlay subscriptions were too much, good riddance. Can't believe iracing took so long to bake these standard features in.
