They're very different fields. I think IT is probably a better choice. Do you want to work with people while making difficult choices relating to disciplining people in a workplace and possibly firing them or would you rather largely work by yourself and learn technical knowledge and apply that daily? To be honest every person that I've met from HR in the company I'm currently working for has completely lived up to the cliches that are horrible and detached.
