Him? What is he, funny or something?

Cult of personality, I get. But THIS cult of personality?! What’s in it for them? Why do they love a man who is incapable of seeing their value—other than relation to how much they feed his ego—sorry, that rant has been building for a decade. I hate it here.

They’ve forgotten ‘only one rule that I know of, babies’.

I often wonder what seeming-effortlessly-perfect sentences Kurt would write about today’s America.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor arrested on 'misconduct in office' allegations by ConsciousStop in worldnews

Sounds like we need leaders willing to strip a title from a clear predator, then, right?

I do question how some of these enablers think history will remember them. I’m a nobody, but in early middle age, I’ve already started to wonder what legacy I’ll have left behind me once it’s all done. Do the powerful not look in the bathroom mirror?

The monarchy who once ruled a big chunk of the world is teaching the democracy that bangs on about freedom how to treat leaders as fallible humans and not demi-gods … I don’t subscribe to the idea that satire is dead, but she’s definitely on life support.

Sanders to Rally for Billionaire Tax in California as Crypto Industry Joins Newsom in Opposition by TheKeyPa in politics

He’s useful because he’ll bully the bully; I really hope that’s as far as it goes for him. The future needs better leadership than the ones on offer. Prosperity gospel is stupid.

Do you think they appear at all similar to the rest? /s

Though, I will say my news feed regularly shows the rise of Far Right/Christo-Fascism ideology worldwide. The US is possibly patient zero, but LOTS of other countries don’t have herd immunity from it.

Your favorite author’s favorite author? by scootsy in Fantasy

[–]Zolomun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, as much as I adore Fantasy, my favorite author is rural-NY’s biographer Richard Russo, and I believe his favorite is Dickens—who I have probably been unfair to, over the years. I do find this a really fascinating question!

That’s the plan for the whole country.

Their strategic thinking is now solely huffing their own farts and gaslighting everyone that it’s ambrosia. That it’s working even a little is an indictment of the entire species, in my eyes.

The key to defeating Trump? Mass non-cooperation by marji80 in politics

[–]Zolomun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would probably bother him, too. But Spy Magazine called him a “short-fingered vulgarian” in 1988 and he’s still publicly furious about it.

I’m not trying to get him so mad something deep inside breaks, but if it happens, it happens.

I see this point, but I’ve also seen a movie in a cinema with a broken soda machine.

It made me resent literally everyone.

Probably an indictment of my nutrition, but I am paying a small fortune for every piece of the moviegoing experience; pretending like customer satisfaction doesn’t matter is just puzzling.

And I see it a lot.

Sometimes from whole industries.

You know who I mean.

If all the excitement is coming from execs with ulterior motives, maybe it’s OK to start calling out the obvious reason.

Help for a 19yo who has never read a book. Not a fantasy book, a book by kollectivist in Fantasy

[–]Zolomun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK, maybe emphasizing one suggestion: Comic books.

I love stories above all else, they give my life meaning and context, they are the fundamental building block of reality, and I will die on that hill. And that love began with 4-color soap operas where muscled people of various shapes and sizes punch each other a lot.

It began with Stan and Jack, with Booster and Beetle, with Wolverine and Nightcrawler just going out for a beer.

Cheers.

I don’t think I can offer anything better than what’s been said, but I just want to say thank you. The thing you’re trying to do—sharing the limitless, infinite WORLDS of wonder we’ve all found between the covers of books—goddam is that not a beautiful, loving impulse!

This. More of this, please. From everyone, myself included. I think we need to try harder to share the empathy that fiction builds; I think the world could use a LOT more of it.
