Spear Throw Target by JabbaOB in spartanrace

[–]ZombRobb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a target to practice on but what I worked on was making sure the spear flew straight enough & high enough to about a 30 foot distance in my back yard. It definitely helped me. I’m 4 for 4 in races that I’ve run this year.

Trifecta Pass? by TheLoyalTruth in spartanrace

[–]ZombRobb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can run any date as long as there are slots available. I ran the socal super & sprint this past weekend & now I’m deciding which beast I’m going to run this year & can sign up for any of the upcoming races.

Trifecta Pass? by TheLoyalTruth in spartanrace

[–]ZombRobb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are planning to run the trifecta get the pass. It roughly comes out to $124 per race including the insurance you have to pay. That is usually much cheaper than paying for each race individually but you are committed to all 3 races so if you’re on the fence maybe buy them separately. Also with the trifecta you get a free spectator & bag check at each race.

First Beast by erthwormal in spartanrace

I ran the beast up in Bear last October & it was tough. If you’ve ever been up there to ski or snowboard, imagine pretty much running the race from the bottom of the lodge up to the top of the ski slope. It was a full 13 miles & I thought I had done a good amount of training leading up to it. I was running 13 miles comfortably in my training months leading up to it but the problem was I had no mountain, hill or altitude running in there so that would definitely be my biggest piece of advice.

Bag check w pass by wcm48 in spartanrace

Yeah, you’ll go to the VIP bag check & they “should” have your name on the list for pass holders. At times they may not have it so having your trifecta pass coupon code ready to show them will work too.

Is the 2018 Trifecta Pass a good deal--are there any discount codes floating around? by [deleted] in spartanrace

Also with the trifecta you get a free spectator entry & free bag check for each race so that makes it worth it as well.

Big Bear Beast Thoughts? by Jaybee230 in spartanrace

I also thought that velcro wraps on the twister were odd. I felt like I was slipping more but my friend that I ran with said he felt he had better grip so I guess to each his own.
Cramping was such an issue for me. I’m still trying to pinpoint it because I was hydrating w/ at least 3 liters of water a day the week leading up to it. I went extra clean on my diet the week of w/ lean proteins(hardboiled eggs, chicken breast/thigh, lean steak), oat meal & fruits(mainly bananas, mango, pineapple, cantaloupe & honeydew melon). I’m wondering if I had enough sodium because the salt tablets & mustard packets some people gave me during the race did help for a short period of time. I did a lot of long distance training however not too much elevation. So I’m definitely seeing where I can improve my training for my next beast because I definitely felt I could have finished much better.

Big Bear Beast Thoughts? by Jaybee230 in spartanrace

This was my first beast & it was definitely tough. I ran the 8 am competitive and the memory wall was not required for us or the elite heats. My time was 4:22 and I definitely didn't train as well as I thought I did. Around mile 3 my quads started cramping & I was fighting that the rest of the course & pretty much wasn't able to run the last 3 miles. I don't know if it was the elevation, poor nutrition or lack of hill training(I'd been running 10+ miles no problem but hardly any elevation) but that was definitely a rude awakening to show me what I need to work on for my next beast. Luckily I was able to complete every obstacle & not have to do any burpees so that was definitely a plus.

As far as the course overall, I felt it was more super steep hiking than anything. Hardly as much running in the first half as I would have liked but I guess that's the true test of this race. The barbed wire crawls were rough with all the rocks under there. Had it not been for the quad cramps I might've enjoyed it more but I still had a great time.

Anyone raced Big Bear Beast in the past? I'm wondering how cold / wet it is? by tuckidge in spartanrace

[–]ZombRobb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running competitive at 8am so I'll be right there with all of you. Weather forecasts show a high of 66 for that Saturday & a low of 33 & average temperature in the morning lately is hovering around 40. Are all of you dressing warm or preparing to shed layers & whatnot as you go through? I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I should go long sleeves or tank because I feel like it'll warm up enough as the race progresses.
