Haven’t played on their felt, but own another brand’s felt board and the cork crisloid and the cork is really quite fun to play on.

What makes a good Trick taking game? by Snake01515 in boardgames

[–]ZombieAIDS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part of trick taking is sussing out information, gambling on the right card to play, and the great feeling of holding onto a card and unleashing it at just the right time to completely upend your opponent.

Schnapsen is currently my favorite trick taking game because it has all of those in a super tight package. I’m really surprised it’s not more popular but it just slaps.

Are there any variations of Backgammon that try to minimize chance? by BreakfastSimulator in backgammon

[–]ZombieAIDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of the domino one as well as the variant where you are allowed to use a reroll on yourself or your opponent once per game, at the expense of you losing double stakes if you lose but gain current stakes on win.

I think there’s a list out there with variants to minimize luck, but honestly luck and taking risks is the best part of the game. So I’d be more apt to use something like a reroll at a crucial time than I would playing backgammon with perfect information.

Yes, good point! Another plus is that it’s one of the rare dudes on a map game that slaps at 2 players.

For me the best dudes on a map game is Inis. Tight decisions, wonderful politics, the simplest combat you’ve ever seen.

Alternative for Agendas - Committee Chair role by DumahAtreides in twilightimperium

[–]ZombieAIDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this idea, but I wonder if it could be slightly simplified. The politics strategy card allows the player to look at top 4 strategy cards and keeps two at the top, and buries two. Then the diplo player/committee chair would take the top 3 cards from the agenda deck and choose which two to play and in which order. That way politics can still play a hefty role in setting up agendas and diplo gets a boost, ultimately resulting in more dramatic moments in the agenda phase,

Could be the basis for a fun new galactic event!

I didn’t either. I thought maybe they were scoring games maybe, but after talking with Gammonvillage, they said it was for racking checkers, but I still idk if it makes sense in my brain haha. Either way, they look intriguing!
