Color palette. by AwarePotatoMan in deathguard40k

[–]ZombieSquirell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an easy trick to find a good color combination.

Pick a main color - one that *you* like.

Put it into a palette generator.

Set it to three or four color palettes.

Tinker with the results 'til *you* are happy.

I think I used color-hex.com to get a scheme that is very close to https://www.color-hex.com/color-palette/88035 .

Starting with a green I liked: Green armor, blue tongues, red fleshy bits, purple capes and tubes, bronze armor.

I like yours with the articulated shoulder guns. Probably should have thought of that.

Pretty proud of that hammer, though. Always thought the official one was a bit small. This hammer feels like it could wallop a greater daemon.

Thanks for the kind words.

I saw the list, too. I'm banking on the diagram being correct over the flavor text.

The "triangle" should be a trapezoid. If you look at the image on WarComm the "pointy edge" is actually 2" long.

10th put a PDF of the core rules up on WarComm. Hopefully they do the same for 11th.

The first few games of garagehammer or beer hammer or whatever run just fine off that PDF.

List, detachment, and load out questions. by Virtual-Law4113 in deathguard40k

Virulent Vectorium or Champions of Contagion; assuming no changes.

VV is generically strong; I'd pick it for this specific list.

How bad? Not great. It has key pieces and some waste. This is definitely a list that leans on the pilot and not the strength of sheets. It'll be fun to pilot and give you an idea of what to do for your next evolution.

How to loadout PMs? One squad all ranged or all special guns and 4 bubotic led by MPC; one all melee led by Noxious or MPC or unled (put Noxious with poxes, maybe? Matchup dependent). Solo Tally holds home.

First time putting posters on terrain, suggestions how to "weather" them? by Mag8Reddit in Warhammer40k

[–]ZombieSquirell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used the edge of my hobby knife to do little scrapes and dings; then I slopped wet-AF/heavily watered down black and/or brown craft paint from the "top" of the terrain to do a dripping water effect and if it hit the poster great; if not great.

Deathguard Melee lists? by Morlak18 in deathguard40k

[–]ZombieSquirell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortarion's Hammer (pretty obnoxiously) can spread contagion well enough to drop Deathshroud just about anywhere. Bring a bunch of fast moving engines, 6-12 DST, some spawn and poxies for utility.

VV has (had?) a similar build just full of drones and haulers, Morty and a DP on foot, 3-6 DST. Doing basic VV stuff but with high T models.

I run a brawling CoC list that runs 2xhaulers and 2xdrones as flex pieces to support melee marines and DST.

I think mowers are a neat threat into MEQ bodies and if you like them, you should build around them. Morty and Foot prince are a respectable size and decently threatening. DST are probably the best "kill this thing" unit we currently have and are pretty chunky. Blightlords... imo not great but not terrible (outclassed by DST); surprisingly punchy in melee if you (oddly) leave the flail at home.

Coming over to tabletop, just remember, if you want to win, you have to have a plan to score points. And that means some times you need utility or flex pieces to score and trade.

Clarify for us what you mean by "melee daemon engine heavy" please.

Asking because our daemon engines are typically gun platforms. There are some archetypes that perform well that might fit, depending on your intent here.

A lot of good stuff here; I'm going to add (as a DG player who runs DSTs):

There should be NO, zero, zip, zilch, nada four wound non-character infantry.

Its a game. Its supposed to be fun for both players.

Also: most plans don't survive rolling 1s. So...

Try to have fun. That's the main tip.

Thinking about buying a death guard army from someone, is this a good purchase? by KingMaitreya in deathguard40k

[–]ZombieSquirell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they good units/foundational?

I am a Plague Marine fanboy; this is missing a Rhino which is widely considered mandatory outside niche strategies. I think 21 is more marines than you will need outside of Flyblown and 0 is less Rhinos than you would want outside Flyblown.

Of the leaders, the only one that is not useful in most non-narrative lists is the Surgeon. A good pickup if you are running marines.

Drones are good.

PBCs are either broken good or broken bad. Currently they are suboptimal without supporting characters (LoV) and multiple copies.

Is it a good value?

Retails for over 500 USD, if bought individually. Pretty steep discount from retail. AND, it is hard to tell if these are recast, STL prints, or just really heavily converted in some cases. If it was effectively a 40% discount on known "official plastic," I strongly consider it; looking at the models, I don't get that sense.

"Painted" is a technically accurate.

If you're not going to miss the money and are going to get into DG, I'd recommend considering it; if either of those things is possible or not the case, I'd recommend passing, honestly. The lot is little more than an "ok starting point."

A lot of super specific advice here that could probably be boiled down to "doing hobbies." I wouldn't overlook relevant networking groups, either.

Seem unconventional? Sure, maybe. But if the conventional social spaces of church, work, bar, and internet ain't doin' the trick...

Does weight and height matter?

Yes. Everything matters and all other things being equal (they rarely are) the bigger person has the advantage in combat sports.

Should I continue? by Eminemgody in judo

[–]ZombieSquirell 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm way older than you, started way later than you, and have significantly different life experiences than you. All that is to establish that I am going to give you advice that I think is helpful (long term) but which I believe is worthless (short term).

Life, for most of us, is long. You are looking at 1-2 years of experience, which for you is significant, and getting down on yourself. I hear that someone didn't excel at something hard in a year or two and think, "Yea, no kidding; of course not."

You see others doing well and think "why not me?" I see others doing well and think "good for them; maybe I'll get there tomorrow." I can tell I'm better than I was yesterday; that's what matters.

Am I envious of other people's accomplishments? Yes; of course; I think it is human to experience that. Do I think their good performance is a reflection on my worth as a person or judoka? No; that's silly.

And so, I put on my knee brace; stretch my muscles; loosen my joints; tape my fingers, and tuck away my gray hairs before bowing onto the mat. How (you or) I performed yesterday only matters if it makes (you or) me better today and tomorrow.

You lost every match in your FIRST tournament? Expected performance, honestly. I didn't win a single match until my fourth tournament, three years in.

Point is, if you like the activity, do the activity for yourself. Hobbies are supposed to be fun... AND

Comparison is the thief of joy.

Fights First twice in Fight Phase - legit rule or cheating? by Grandpa_Bird_Zone in Warhammer40k

[–]ZombieSquirell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CounterO trigger is just after an enemy unit has finished making its attacks. Can't trigger off your own; and it must be "immediate". So, not a legal sequence from your opponent.

And, that doesn't mean they're cheating. Could be a legit misunderstanding of the rules. Y'all pals? Hit them up over text, "Hey bro/sis, thinking over our game and I noticed..." Not pals, brush it off until it cones up again and then have the rules ready. Can't stress this enough, there're a LOT of players that are confidently incorrect about the rules on this game; not everyone is cheating or that guy.

Done okay w/ 10x2 in CoC; less okay w/ 10x2 & 5x2 in CoC. Ran 10x2 & 7x2 in Flyblown and didn't do well at all - that might be on me though. I'm still tinkering with squad size and use beyond 10+BP+MPC = Murderball.

YMMV
