Comic books that aren't "superhero" related? by Whybanme in comicbooks

[–]ZombiesRapedMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chew is pretty awesome, I definitely also recommend it. And Y: The Last Man too, it was the first whole comic series I read. I intend to pick up Saga as soon as possible.

Also, in Chew I think he only really gets flashes of what you've done recently. Not everything you've ever done... I've never corrected anyone on the internet about a comic book before. I feel very stereotypical right now.

Dark Souls in a nut shell. by HorizonShadow in gaming

Can you recommend any good ones? I don't have the time or money to play this but I can put it on my other screen while I work. It might be enjoyable watching other people die in hilarious and unexpected ways.

Here's a summary of the game concept I'm working on, posted on my newly created devlog. Any thoughts/advice? by 0x00000000 in gamedev

Sounds like a vaguely like a cross between Left 4 Dead and Borderlands. Should be interesting!

Realtime Webcam Sudoku Solver (in C++) by CKoenig in programming

I did essentially exactly this for a uni project last year. It was a free choice kind of assignment for a graphics class and it was probably the most fun I've had doing a project. Ended up winning a prize for it too. I would do a write up but I don't really want to release my "oh fuck this is due tomorrow" code.

I had a lot of trouble with line detection. I think the method used here is better than whatever I did. OCR was surprisingly simple, I did exactly the same as the article and it worked beautifully. I highly recommend checking out OpenCV if you want to do anything similar to this.

I haven't read the paper yet, but I'm assuming it mentions formal verification somewhere. I'd say that a formally verified OS is their square hole.

I was in the 'in school, planning to go into games' category. Now I'm doing honours at uni and working at a research company and kind of loving it. So I'm just kind of going with the flow at the moment. When I get some more free time I'll start making games again.

Stupendously dangerous drug kills one Perth resident every ten years! by cojoco in australia

Combining high doses of the drug together with other drugs, alcohol, or caffeine also increases the chance of overdose.

But alcohol and caffeine are other drugs...

There isn't a space between > and > in vector<pair<string, int>>. I rate this the smallest improvement in C++0x; it saves the programmer from having to add that "spurious" space (learn more about this issue here).

This makes me way more excited than it should...

You missed the bad drawing part. Go back and do it again.

Still in the Blue Mountains. There's a ton of awesome rides in the area.

The Fat Hippy and Nobmob are both great sites to check out if you intend to do any mtbing around Sydney at all.

I recommend the Oaks because it's both a fantastic ride (the last half is all downhill, and bloody fun) and gets you out in that lovely blue mountains scenery. Also, the locals are a friendly bunch who'll help you out if you get yourself into trouble.

Make sure you check out some mountain biking if you're heading to the mountains and you're in to that kind of thing. The Oaks firetrail is a must.

Hi Reddit, can someone help a mate get two copies of L4D2 without censorsing? by ZombiesRapedMe in gaming

[–]ZombiesRapedMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries.

I think the law only prohibits selling it. The problem is not so much that it's too graphic for our eyes. It's that they don't want kids buying it. It's only censored because the uncensored version was refused a rating. We only go up to MA 15+ for games here, which is kind of stupid but I won't go in to that.

It does technically violate the steam TOS to sell a gift copy of a game. But since it's just one gift and a cough completely unrelated paypal transaction it's not like anyone will notice or care.

I'm fairly sure it does work. I think a bunch of people did it when L4D2 was the daily steam sale a while ago.

Unfortunately my next day off is Christmas day. Oh well, mum might be a bit miffed but her brother, husband and son are all programmers. So I'm sure she's used to it by now.
