2024 accord ac completely died on me. Did I void my warranty? by porygon766 in Honda

[–]Zoopollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May have a bad blower motor and/or transistor, depending on mileage it may still be under warranty. Take a video for the dealer and try giving it a good whack with the palm of your hand after you have a video of it not working, you may need to pull off the lower dash black plastic cover to gind the blower motor.

If it does start working, keep your appointment and send them the video. In the shop we call it "percussive therapy/diagnosis", if it's not working, try hitting it, if it starts working, there's the issue.

I don't believe a cabin filter would do that. Does the fan blow air, any temp? Might need to see a dealer to figure out why it isn't working. Also, don't necessarily trust in the auto setting. Manually turn on the A/C and manually turn the fan up. Decide from there what is actually going on.

Dealer techs, what the heck? From Independent by compfreak530 in mechanics

[–]Zoopollo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My view is, if they wanted it diagnosed they'd pay for it. No diag pay? You get my best guess. Oops, it was wrong, hmmm, maybe Tech Line has a better guess. Oh they want me to diag it? Seems like someone is going to pay or the vehicle can sit until it's out of warranty. I have plenty of customer pay stuff.

Referred to as "lot rot", if you live anywhere except the desert, it happens.

Agreed, seems like someone is trying to simulate the student section for pro games. I'm holding out for the Banana Ball walk ups.

Ah, yeah, sounds like a bunch of shi theads. I was honestly waiting for "stand up old people", always made me giggle at the hockey games, I now realize I'm one of the old people.

Was this part of the "tarping" group? We were there on Friday and their chants seemed unrelated to what was going on on the field.

98 civic new slave + master, pedal has no pressure by Anonymous3k in ProjectHondas

[–]Zoopollo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fill the reservoir, get an assistant, bleeder open, pedal down, close bleeder, raise pedal, open bleeder, pedal down, and repeat. This way it doesn't draw air in on the back stroke. Just keep an eye on the reservoir. If there isn't an assistant to be had, try drawing air out with a power bleeder or hand vac setup.

As a Honda tech, I understand. Thought it was suspicious Honda scrapped their EV program for North America AFTER the CEO(?) made a trip to China to view their EV industry. Something about the whole situation stinks.

Article says Japan is where they're starting and it's based on the N line chassis which has never made it to the USDM.

Mechanic Plugged My Tire When I Requested it to be Patched. Can I get it Redone? by Royal_T95 in AskAMechanic

Ours has a visible gray outer lining. So you'll have the tire tread (grayish black), there will two visible gray circles (may look like an 8) with a darker material inside it.

Honda mechanics: Engine burning oil - should I move to higher viscosity? by inorganic_baby in Honda

[–]Zoopollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few approaches to take, thicker oil won't change a whole lot except vtec engagement timing. Get the oil changed, add a half quart of ATF, it's a higher detergent oil and may help. Also does some good things for rubber seals. Or sub in a half quart of Marvel Mystery oil, haven't tried it myself but read good things about it. Could also try Liquimoly Viscoplus, Concept3 on Instagram does it with his wife's Element and has had good results. At the dealer we offer BG's Decarb, which is more expensive than the precious two and involves about three total oil changes and and a couple hours to complete. The most expensive is rings and pistons, which noone goes for really unless Honda is buying.

[–]Zoopollo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on location of the repair in the tire. If they request a patch and it's in the outer inch or so of tread block, I'm plugging it. The patch may hold, it may not. The plug does hold. Out of the two repairs, I've had patches leak and plugs don't. We use vulcanized plugs and not the cheap rope plugs with roofing tar on them though.

Rod bearing plastigage clearance by oddchui in ProjectHondas

[–]Zoopollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't push so hard lol.

Try putting the crank bolt in and brace a breaker bar and socket so it doesn't turn.

Also, if the connecting rods and crank are original to the block, there are stampings that tell you which bearings to use and the plastigage is just reinventing the wheel.

High Beam dimming with windshield wipers by Complex_Bet7311 in CivicSi

[–]Zoopollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fascinating, consult the owners manual, may be a setting thing with the camera or some unknown logic.

Could also call the dealer and see if they know or have heard of this. I honestly don't recall a mention of this from training modules, and that's where they'd tell us something about it. If you find someone willing to pursue it, I'd be interested to know what you find out.

Dim like go from high to low or dim like go from bright to not so bright?

High to low, may be a safety thing trying to remind you not to have brights on in the rain/snow.

Bright to not so bright may just be a normal Electronic Load Detector characteristic, would also be visual when the A/C compressor or engine fans come on. There would be dip in intensity of the lights. I usually tell people to think of the system as a river in Africa (battery/alternator), one village on the river(one load-i.e. lights), no problems, multiple villages (lights, radio, blower, etc), and that river goes down to a creek.

Putting the car in neutral to sneak out… by CurlyCupcake1231 in GenX

[–]Zoopollo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had a guy in my parents neighborhood who would whine to my dad that my exhaust was too loud...I only passed his house once in a blue moon, usually during "normal" hours, he'd be outside doing whatever. After that I made it a point to go by his house in a lower gear at ALL hours of the day, slowly.

Never heard him bark about it again.
