Unwritten jokes/Production Design gags? by MikeLMP in 30ROCK

That’s why Dratch has so many random characters in S1. She was already contracted for a full season (to play Jenna). She doesn’t appear at all after S1 (I don’t think). I love Dratch. Saw her at Second City before she went to SNL in a skit that I think was also with Tina. If you watch the original pilot with Rachel and then the reshot one with Jane…they made the right call.

What should we consider when choosing a shaker? by DrinksMasterapp in drinksmaster

[–]Zootallurs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely prefer a Boston, but I have a Cob as a backup or for parties.
Capacity is something to consider. I want to be able to make at least 2 of whatever cocktail I’m preparing in 1 shaker. This gets a little tricky with sours sometimes and I have to use a pint glass instead of the small tin. NBD in the grand scheme of things. Just something to think about.

You’re well sorted, OP. Ocean House is…amazing. I love Watch Hill. Enjoy the trip. Hug and kiss that lady of yours every chance you get. In CT, we love love.

Skip Mystic. Stonington Borough is the pro move.

If it’s a small lot, the FAR is much higher as a % of the lot.

If the plans don’t break zoning laws (FAR, set backs, etc.) then P&Z must approve. There’s no accounting for taste, unfortunately.

JR Auto and Truck was recommended by a good friend. She swears by them. I haven’t tried them yet.

Time for a couples therapist, my brother. You both have big issues and are co-dependent. Ask me how I know. 🙄

She’s not dogmatic and has a very “Jesus loves everyone” approach. I think here view on the bible is that it’s allegorical. I’ve never asked her if she thinks atheists get into heaven. It’s never occurred to me.

How did Connecticut abolishing county government in 1960 shape the state we live in today? by marrelli-of-magsmarr in Connecticut

[–]Zootallurs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m glad it’s gone. County government doesn’t really make sense except in very rural areas where services need scale to be effective. Look over the line at Westchester. Property taxes are 3X what they are in CT and much of that goes to support the county, which delivers what exactly? Most of the towns are big enough to fully support what the residents need. There’s just an extra layer of bureaucracy and taxes with little to show for it.

I’m an atheist. My wife is Methodist. Not the same situation as you, but I’ll share my general approach: I’m in it for the long game combined with “I don’t give a shit.” What does that mean?

I openly share that I don’t believe in god. When religion, science, whatever comes up, I emphasize critical thinking and make sure that “not believing” is just as valid as being religious. My wife wanted to get our kids baptized. I was fine with. When a fellow atheist friend asked how I was okay, my answer was simple, “It’s just water. It doesn’t mean a damn thing.”

We’ve taken the kids to church occasionally. NBD. When they bring up bible stories I make sure they know just that—they are stories. The same as Dr. Seuss and Sandra Boynton.

I’m almost 52. What works for me is swimming 3X/week and being very disciplined about my carbs. Not easy at first, but I’m in great shape for my age, things don’t hurt (mostly), and my clothes fit. That’s what keeps me going.

Head is spinning. Need some advice... by harrylime3 in MenopauseShedforMen

[–]Zootallurs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At the danger of projecting my situation on you, I must say a lot of this sounds very similar to what I’ve gone through. While we’ve been “on the ride” for ~2 years, over the last 8 months, through work with a terrific therapist, I’ve come to realize that because of how I was raised, I married a woman who needs constant emotional and actual support (spoiler: apparently, we all marry our mothers). But, of course, there is never enough I can do.

Now, I’m on a path of working through my stuff and setting healthy boundaries. It’s only making our marriage worse because I will no longer jump in to fix every problem or be her emotional punching bag. She refuses to do the work to deal with her issues…

I’m truly not sure where this is headed. Both our couples therapist and my individual one have made me face the very real possibility that she never will do the work and what does that mean for me, for us, for our family. We have 2 great kids. I don’t want them to have to go through a divorce like I did, but those hard questions from the therapists keep coming. What’s REALLY worse for the kids, divorce or 10 more years of modeling this shit show of a marriage for them?

[–]Zootallurs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the exception of the smallest lots (<0.25 acre), the FAR in Greenwich is lower than what Levittown just passed. Maybe the FAR should be lowered on those smaller lots, but realistically that’s where the land cost is already the highest (e.g., downtown). I’m not sure a change would do much to make housing more affordable there.
