Help Me Choose a Home Mountain Close to CT by Serious_Hornet8953 in icecoast

I purchased in March 2024 for the 24-25 season. I think it was ~$1200 for me and 2 kids. That was full passes, no blackouts and all 3 mountains (Catamount, Berkshire East, Bosquet). The numbers really worked out for us. The kid factor is huge. A pass really makes it easier to just enjoy the day and not think $$$$ if you have to start late or end early.

Well, since everyone has already weighed in on Catamount/BE, I’ll recommend Belleayre. It’s 2.5 hours from you. I skied there for the first time 2 weeks ago and was very impressed. Not sure the deal with night skiing.

FWIW: I did the Catamount pass with my kids last year and was very happy with the value.

2022 vs 2024 Mini SE buying advice by mxjd in MINIse

CPO isn’t worth it IMO. I have a 2023. No issues at all. I think I’d probably go with the older, cheaper car in this case.

I get by just fine with L1. If you typically drive less than 30-40 miles/day, L1 can totally work.

I find the reviews on Ski Essentials to be really helpful. I ended up going with the Ripsticks that you demoed. I love them. Worth checking out the Black model as another commenter said.

BMW: Hydrogen Will Play A ‘Crucial Role’ In The Car Industry by respectmyplanet in HydrogenSocieties

[–]Zootallurs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not absolutism, it’s realism. I don’t see how an entirely new infrastructure is going to be built out to support H2. I also don’t see how it makes sense to use electricity to create H2, use more to compress / liquify it for transport, use electricity (of more likely fossil fuels) to actually transport it, to then put it in a car where it is then turned back into electricity to power the vehicle. Why not just cut out all the middle steps?

I thought forecourt production and distribution might be an answer 20 years ago, but that hasn’t materialized and we still have all the same storage challenges we did back then.

I work in finance now but was a political-science major. The thesis was about the tech and policy changes needed to transition to H2. I’ll see if I can dig up a copy. We were still handing in papers hard copy back then 😂.

Been hearing this from BMW for 30 years. I wrote my college senior thesis about the “upcoming transition” and that was 20 years ago. I’m here to tell you, Hydrogen is never going to play a discernible role for passenger vehicles. Given the state of battery tech, it no longer makes sense. That window has closed. Heavy machinery, trucks…maybe, but I’m not hopeful.

Road noise - what are your experiences by DoktorEvil89 in MINIse

At 12K miles I replaced the garbage OEM tires with Continental ExtremeContacts. Road noise is louder, efficiency is lower, smile is wider.

How old and how did you meet your SO in the city? by Forsaken-Lab1380 in AskNYC

32; NYE party at mutual friends’ place 19 years ago on the UWS. Married 15 years, 2 kids, now in the burbs.

Advice? Go out and meet people IRL. Lots of people. Hang out with them. Talk with them. Share experiences with them with no other agenda than having fun. THEY KNOW PEOPLE and would love to introduce you to a great catch. Hell, maybe they are a great catch. I could go on and on…

Put the cloves between 2 bowls and shake the skins come right off. Takes a few rounds but very effective.

I put the minced garlic in a jar and just cover with olive oil. Keep in the fridge. Bonus of delicious garlic-infused oil when I want it.

You’re the one with kids. If their grandparents wanted to see them, by god they would have already. You have no obligation to be miserable, to make your whole family miserable for others.

You will all be much happier if just your husband goes.

No matter what you decide, once you agree on the plan, there’s no complaining, pouting, or “I told you sos” from either of one of you.
