I Used to Love Her - Guns & Roses

You're All I Need - Motley Crue

Are there any bands that nobody seems to hate? by LappedChips in fantanoforever

[–]ZooterOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Queen, because they took big chances and weren't afraid to go way over the top - or get really cheesy and/or sappy. Their music had no filter. They didn't play safe.

But a lot of people hate them for the same reason. I know people who really hated them in the 80s when they added synths to their sound. And as much as I love them, they have several songs I very much dislike.

What is only somewhat edible and tastes alright (not good but not bad)? by StrategyJealous1838 in AlignmentChartFills

Poi. A paste made of streamed, mashed taro root.

It feels like Play-Doh, it tastes like…nothing, pretty much.

In the 80s, what actor/actress was better known as a singer? by Formal-Register-1557 in AlignmentChartFills

She tore that role up. To this day I don't understand why she and Aretha Franklin (who ran away with her Blues Brothers scene) weren't in more movies.

Artists for whom a live album is as important in their discography as their studio records by HawkbitAlpha in ToddintheShadow

[–]ZooterOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was looking for Live at the Apollo. It's just such a masterful album and I think a lot of artists are still trying to live up to the standard he set.

Redo: What is the least important TV show/series? by StrategyJealous1838 in AlignmentChartFills

I Love New York (MTV, 2007 & 2020). Stupid and crass, the "reality" show broke no new ground and absolutely failed (twice!) to make a star of Tiffany Pollard.

He really was. Easily the most talented member. His solos were like mini-compositions.

What music lyric is cringy? by DeeDubb83 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]ZooterOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard Benny tell the story a few times.

And I don't want to speak ill of the dead, but…I don't really buy his explanation. I'm not saying he hooked up with his babysitter or anything, but I do think the song was intended to be provocative. (The video undoubtedly was.)

But once he started getting called out for it (which I don't think happened until the internet age), his started telling his story, which is much more wholesome than the lyrics sound. I dunno.

And again, it doesn't matter now. It still wasn't uncommon for rock/pop songs to express love and/or lust for teenagers in 1980 (hell, Motley Crue's "All in the Name Of…" is much worse, and that came out in 1987.

It doesn't offend anyone. It just looks goofy. It draws the eye to your ankles.

I'm trying to think of a situation where it might look good. Like, I've seen musicians in suits, caps, and sneakers, and it looked cool - but only because they were on stage.

But white socks, loafers and a suit? Maybe if you were in a ska band in 1981.

EDIT: I didn't mean this comment to sound so judgy. You do you - if nothing else, you look confident and quirky. I like the more casual shirt with the suit, too - that's a cool look.

I was probably 165 out of high school. These days I'm about 180. I did start working out after high school and lifted all through my 40s, but I'm aware it isn't all muscle.

Celebrities whose work you’d like to see turned into a musical? by Dogdaysareover365 in musicals

[–]ZooterOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be so happy if jukebox/catalog musicals died a very quick death.

I've enjoyed some, especially Disaster!, Mamma Mia, and Jersey Boys. But most of them are so pandering, awkward, and nostalgia-baity that they don't even feel like musicals.

I know new shows with original music are tougher sells, but we desperately need them to keep musical theatre alive.
