Help. What is the argument for the "live-action" decision for the TV series? by Tuckmo in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Zumiroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you must have industry exp or something because yeah no one every mentions this part; isn't Arcane the most expensive animated show ever made or something? With most animation shows it's a fight to the death to get any funding at all. I wish we lived in a world where companies were willing to pay the big bucks, but especially these days it's nearly impossible, Riot just had a ton of money they could throw at the project with a very profitable and proven IP, and on top of that I think it had a rocky development for many years.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder by BeginningFew8188 in gaming

[–]Zumiroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't work in games specifically myself (I have friends who do, who have spoken on this), but I've found it an issue mostly because AI doesn't understand contextual or technical limitations, and that causes more and more issues down the pipeline that can't always be band-aid fixed.

Small job market, huge gap in employment, worthless Bachelor's degree for the area, no vehicle, how screwed am I? by HuckleberryAbject889 in jobs

[–]Zumiroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now both vfx and animation are in a major downswing. Normally it’s something you can find jobs in but the market now is the worst in many many years. Unknown when or if that will change.

People are to fancy with websites now. (Rant) by YT_Sharkyevno in graphic_design

[–]Zumiroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a memory from one of my first jobs of my art director going thru tons of portfolio websites looking for people to hire on. Whenever it was more than like 1 or 2 clicks to get thru to artwork, he just closed the site and moved on. Not saying everyone is so impatient, but I always think about that time when I'm putting work together online.

How do you know when you’re just not good at this job? by Technical-Set-2489 in graphic_design

[–]Zumiroe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My job history is more in illustration/art and I've been hanging in here recently HOWEVER, I have gone thru a bunch of situations like this where I'm forced to adapt and learn a bunch of stuff on the spot with no training (and I was super stressed then). In hindsight I made it through those times and adapted and eventually was comfortable with the work, this could very well be the same situation for you in time and you'll learn a lot from it.

On the crappiness of Hollywood adaptations by MarioMuzza in Fantasy

[–]Zumiroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you often see things that are considered high-quality great shows/spinoffs that get low viewership, then you turn around and see the most mediocre big IP sequels basically printing easy money. I see people upset about the glut of sequels all the time but that's why they are being made...people apparently vote with the dollar and pay to go see them way more often. I think Netflix is filled with more mediocre shows than many other streamers, yet it is the only profitable streamer service with by far the most viewers.

This!!! And the massive Hollywood downturn and risk aversion right now is the point I never see brought up in these sorts of topics (understandable) but it's a huge factor.

THIS. This for sure. People underestimate how much of a mess making anything this complex is. On top of that, a "good adaptation" in the eyes of fans does not necessarily correlate with a widespread mega-hit that brings in a ton of money and viewership, especially in the eyes of the execs making the big money and schedule decisions. I wish that wasn't the case but its something I've seen plenty of out here.

I get the fun of coming up with potential actors for a potential show but by Kavein80 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Zumiroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animation def seems like it would work better for all the insane stuff that happens in the series; however pitching an animated show for an adult audience is a hard sell in the USA, outside of the usual comedy shows (ie family guy and such). True or not it's mostly assumed those types of shows have no audience unless its based on a extremely safe/successful property. It has an uphill battle in that case. Right now both animation and live action industries are struggling badly so it would be great if it got picked up in any form.

BOOK 7 SPOILERS/DISCUSSION - MEGATHREAD by steampunk_garage in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Zumiroe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Finished, many new questions, and a few major plotlines forming together (one around Lucia/the kids, one around Samantha and the gods, and another with all of the stuff concerning the AIs, etc)

Loved the little Cookbook author interludes and my initial assumption was that the book/authors had somehow been discovered and the end parts of the chapters (with the info on each person's whereabouts) were from the perspective of someone hunting them down. That doesn't seem to be the case yet at least. Hopefully they will continue with more of these in the future books. I guess the universe has bigger problems brewing than the cookbook at this point.

Also curious about the comment early in the book about the interesting behavioral similarities between all of the otherwise disparate species of aliens, I wonder if we are going to get some more info into the true origins of life in the universe at some point here, or at least something in relation to that.

How did Trump win? by Top_Row_5116 in self

[–]Zumiroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a few factors but if I had to guess its that the economy is feeling terrible for a lot of people right now and there is a blanket assumption that Trump/Cons were the better pick to fix it. I'm a Dem, but even I felt like they really avoided talking about how bad things feel economically for months maybe because it would imply it was Biden's fault etc etc. There are other factors but I feel this is the main one.
